ELEKTRA Take me to infinity If we could stop time tonight Then there would be no goodbye
The wind whistled through the sparse scattering of trees, creating a quiet symphony that stunned even the birds into silence. Everything became still, listening to natures music. Through the silence, you could hear one gentle set of paws hitting the soft earth, interrupted here and there by the crunch of claws against snow. The female moved with poise and grace, the picture of regality. Her strong neck held her delicate head, her divine blue eyes searching the horizon in front of her, that slowly became more and more prominant.
Elektra had been moving towards the cliff edge to take a look at her lands. She had recently been crowned Queen of Ravensbruck. The title made warmth stir in her belly when she had first heard it. This was her first round in her new home, and she wanted to see it all before she moved to individual parts. Her easy lope increased a little, the soft thuds of her paws growing quicker as she moved towards the edge. The trees grew thin around her, until there were few around.
She suddenly slowed, sensing a change in the air in front of her. Two more steps and the view opened up, revealing the land in all of it's glory. She had made it. A small grin lit up her dark face, eyes darting around to catch everything. A gentle breeze stirred the black and russet fur of her face and neck, and she lifted her head, taking a deep breath. Many different smells hit her at once; grass, dirt, and the strongest, wolf.
A gentle sigh left the fae's body as she lowered herself into a sitting position, her tail curling onto her paws. She felt utterly at peace, despite the trouble it took her to get to where she was. Her ears twitched, listening to the wind, and she gave a little jolt as she smelled another scent. It was wolf, but relatively close.. and behind her, instead of in front. Her ears flicked back, searching for sound, but finding none. She glanced back quickly, but there was nothing. Bewildered, she turned her eyes back to the view and sat, waiting.

CÚTHAIL
Reflections of me in your eyes, oh please But I'm shy can't you see Cúthail sat in the small indent in the mesa's side that he had found, an alcove almost, with over hanging branches and a small dying bush growing just to the side in front of the opening. The spot provided the perfect outlook on the world, and he could see all of the beautiful country of Ravensbrück. From here, the forest was visible as a dark smudge around the base, the falls off in the distance were a rising plume of misty white. The canyons, dark red; the mountains, icy white; even the dunes and rolling hills that led to the wide expanse of shocking blue sea to the far distance. The small male loved it here, one of his favorite visiting spots in his rogue-ish travels.
Cúthail was a tiny male of about 29 inches at the shoulders, and 70 pounds at an overall weight. Not much, though he had surprising muscle rippling under those thick plumes of rusty reds and grays. His belly and chest were a soft cream, while deep blood reds and rich mud browns splashed his legs and face, and his back was a raging sea of black and white patches. Silver eyes gleamed from above the sharp maw, and large black tipped, brown rimmed ears swiveled constantly to capture every sound. As small as Cúthail was, he was an observant one, and was often more of a shadow then the spotlight, as he could tell this female was used to being.
Whoever she was, she had just barely noticed him, and he shook his head gently in mild amusement. As important as the way she carried herself claimed to be, she needed to be careful, or some dangerous brute or hunter would take advantage of her naivety. He let his eyes roam over her unabashedly, something he'd never allow if she was actually looking at him. A beautiful femme, complete with russet, black, and ivory fur. Odd ice blue and gold eyes shimmered in the dimming light as she had faced him, then she turned her back on him and sat, to watch over the land. A slight stiffening told him she had finally taken note of him, and he smiled, though shrank into the shadows a little more, not really wanting company.
Cúthail was more of a shy observer, preferring to watch, not chatting and conversing. Intelligent and wise as a four year old could be, whom had spent the last two years doing nothing but wandering almost mutely, he was good at what he liked, but this female had taken him by surprise by trekking up here at such an odd time of day. As the sun set, he had expected to be the only one to see the spectacular colors streaking across the heavens, so Cúthail had not taken precautions to cover his scent or hiding spot very well. As the sun slowly sank in the sky, the earlier feeling of peace that had caught Elektra with its soothing tendrils began to fade. She knew she had let her guard down, had let the quiet cliff lull her into a sense of security. It was a dangerous mistake, one that she couldn't afford to make.
The unsettling feeling became too much, and she stood, gently shaking her dark pelt. Being on her feet made her feel better. She could more easily defend herself on four feet instead of two. As she slowly stretched, attempting nonchalance, her eyes darted around, searching for the eyes that were surely watching her. Seeing nothing, she regained her stature, and began to walk slowly, searching for any particular scent of wolf that would give the watcher away.
She didn't really need to sniff to find his trail. A line of prints in the snow plainly showed Elektra where the wolf had gone, and his scent told her he was indeed a male. This sent alarm bells ringing in her head, but she refused to look troubled. What was a male wolf doing up here, watching her? It set her teeth on edge, and her eyes narrowed a bit. With stiff shoulders, she began to walk, keeping her eyes forward and the prints in her peripheral vision.
The trail led to the trees, and the scent became stronger as she walked forward. It was only a short walk until she spotted him, by the cliffs edge, in a sort of alcove of tree branches. He was a small wolf, but she would not let her guard down because of his size. She straightened herself, motioning with her muzzle to the male that he had been caught. "I don't appreciate being watched, stranger. I don't know about you, but I find it unsettling."
Without another word she took a few steps closer, studying the male for his reaction. He didn't seem aggressive at the moment, and if he was, he had the opportunity to attack her, should he have wanted. But he had not. It was rather strange. What would he gain from watching her?

CÚTHAIL
Repeating the scenery over again Reflections of me in your eyes, oh please But I'm shy can't you see Cúthail noticed the female approaching and stiffened slightly, knowing what it would seem. A young male, peering through the bushes in a moderately hidden place, while a female laid nearby. Talk about creeper status much? On the bright side, it was obvious he had gone to no measure to hide his trail or his scent, nor had he come here to spy on her.
I don't appreciate being watched, stranger. I don't know about you, but I find it unsettling. Her voice rang out, a rather un-convivial greeting, if he might say so. He still found her rather beautiful, though now his gaze locked on her right shoulder, as he refused to turn their silver depths to those odd blue-golden ones. She radiated dominance and a demand for obedience, and he was not one to question such brash authority.
My apologies, miss. I came here for the sunset, not to threaten you or any other who might be caught unawares. No idea anyone else had similar plans this lovely evening, I swear. Shy honesty was clear in his voice, and in his softly submissive posture- bowed head and drooped tail. I never meant you harm, and I was trying not to watch you, you are just so beautiful. If Cúthail had not been in her presence he would have slapped himself. Though, if he had not been in her presence, he never would have uttered such a maladroit sentence. As such, his fur burned with pure embarrassment and he ducked his head and eyes even further. I'm sorry... That was rather rudely audacious of me... His voice went soft and murmuring as his shyness once more took over his being. You see, you great lump of dung? You travel for years and years and never talk to a soul, then on the odd occasion that you meet someone, you make a great, bloody idiot of yourself! Just run away now, before you make it worse. 'Tis what you normally do, anyway, you coward. Cúthail could remember the last time he had run into a female; he had ended up fleeing in the opposite direction. And the last time he met a brute... Let's just say he still has the nasty, knotted scars through the soft fur of his throat to prove that incidence. 'Nuff said. [/blockquote]

Elektra watched the male as he looked at her, waiting patiently for an answer. She noticed that he refused to look her in the eyes, his gaze settling on her side. Her head cocked ever so slightly in curiosity. As he spoke, his demeanor changed, became shy and quiet. This instantly settled her. She no longer felt uneasy, and she relaxed ever so slightly.
She gave him a small smile, and was opening her maw to reply when he spoke again, stunning her into a short silence. Had he called her beautiful? She felt blood rush to her cheeks, invisible under her dark fur, but there all the same. His submissive posture changed into one of embarassment, and she fought to keep her mouth a small smile. She would have giggled like a puppy if she didn't try to control her stupid mouth.
She listened to his apology and nodded slightly, attempting to encourage him. "It's quite all right. Thank you, I am flattered." As she uttered the words in a gentle tone, she sat, studying him once more. He seemed at war with himself, embarassment flooding his features. He stared at the ground, not looking at her, or acknowledging her. She huffed a short breath from her nose, and began to speak again. "What is your name, stranger? I am Elektra."
Elektra's crystal and gold eyes watche him, noting every movement and sound. She felt compelled to this male, despite him being a total stranger, and watching her from afar. She shuffled her feet softly, not wanting to rush the stranger in his reply, but feeling an odd sense of impatience. It was like an itch in the back of her head, unable to be scratched. The only salve would be his answer, and she bit her lip to keep herself from speaking once more. Shut up, stupid..

CÚTHAIL
Repeating the scenery over again Reflections of me in your eyes, oh please But I'm shy can't you see Cúthail felt his own body relaxed as he noticed the tension leaving her body, if only slightly. It was a good sign, as she was a bit larger then him, and her dominating personality posed a much larger threat to him then he did to her, quite honestly. At the sudden amity, he let his eyes go back to her, his posture straightening somewhat, though he stayed submissively from looking at her straight on.
The female's smile at his comment, though small and controlled, shocked him. Just for a second his pure, moon-silver eyes darted to her crystalline orbs in surprise, then back to the earth. As well as being submissive; he had heard that you could see someone's soul through their eyes, and he didn't want anyone seeing that far into him, so he almost never looked another in the eyes.
Elektra... Cúthail whispered to himself, a sudden image of the goddess's daughter, Turpa, wrestling with winds and thunder storms. The name was very fitting for such an obviously efferescent female. My name 'tis Cúthail, Elektra. At your service, ma'am. His tongue rolled around the soft "coo-hill" sound of his name, and added a sharp edge to hers, a soft Irish sounding accent inherited from his parents edging his voice ever so faintly, and he dipped his head in solemn seriousness. What brings you here, at such an hour? He asked curiously, biting his shyness back in the face of company. 'Twas rare that he spoke to anyone, and her kindness was proving her a worthy companion for the oddity of a "chat" in his rather muting life.[/blockquote]

The male seemed surprised at her smile. Was he not used to kindness? Or had she seemed too overbearing to seem kind? It baffled her, and her brow furrowed slightly in confusion. She didn't understand this male, and she felt an overpowering urge to do so. His silver eyes locked onto hers for a moment, then darted back to the ground. He reamined in his submissive posture, seemingly a bit more relaxed than before. Did he know who she was? She sort of didn't want him knowing, fearing what he would do if he knew. Nonsense. People will know who you are soon enough.
As the male repeated her name, she gave another small smile, waiting for him to continue. She waited, wondering if her name had already had Her Majesty tacked onto it. She soon realized it had not, for he continued to speak, revealing his name. "It is a pleasure, to meet you, Cúthail." It was a very unique name, reminding her a bit of a dove. His accent was faint, but noticeable, and he dipped his head in greeting.
When he spoke again, her back stiffened ever so slightly. It was strange for a wolf to be at the cliffs at such a late hour, but she had not expected company to explain her reasonings to. She could not tell him the truth without her title being revealed. Grow up, Elektra, she chastised herself, and she gave him a small smile. He was genuinely curious, something she had not expected from the shy wolf. "I came here to survey the land. I have not been here long, and I felt the need to know the country that is now my abode." She stopped there, her ears pricked. Had he deciphered her meaning? She waited patiently, watching his face for any sudden emotions.

CÚTHAIL
I see, can't have you, can't leave you, there 'cause I must sometimes see you And I don't understand how you can keep me in chains Cúthail listened to the wolfess's words, and suddenly stiffened. Abode..? Has new royalty been put in place, at long last? You are too cut off for your own damn good, Cúthail! What a mess, if this is who you think it is...! His piercing, yet soft, silver gaze flickered up, closer to her gold-blue eyes, but not meeting them. Pardon me if I got your meaning wrong, but you wouldn't happen to be the new queen this country's been trying to put in place for so long, would you? Voice weak with shock and worry, he sincerely hoped that he was wrong, though if she indeed was, the country would be much better off in her kind and patient paws. But... If she was, he had just called the Queen of Ravensbrück beautiful, and made an idiot of himself to royalty. The thought nearly made him swoon on his paws with embarrassment! Suddenly her stiff assuredness, self-confidence, and proud posture made sense. How else should a queen act, after all? Oh Goddess, Epurna... What angered you so, that you would bring this great instability to me? I pray whatever it was, or is, does not press you to further rattle me.[/blockquote]

Elektra saw the small male stiffen, and the sinking feeling in her stomach told her he had figured it out. Her mouth twitched, wanting to frown, but she kept the calm mask that she so desperately wanted to rip off. Within moments her fears were confirmed. She stifled a sigh, and looked at him in a serious way, her head remaining up high. Regal. "Yes, Cúthail. I am the Queen of Ravensbruck."
As she said the words, her face flickered. Would he act differently around her, now that he knew who she was. Of course he would. Who would want to talk to the Queen as if she were a real wolf? The title scared the shit out of people, and she would never be treated as she would if she were just a normal wolf. A small sacrifice for unlimited power. She gave a soft sigh at the thought, glancing around them quickly. Satisfied there was no one to hear her statement, she looked back at the male, seeing embarrassment flicker through his features. As was expected. He just called the Queen beautiful without knowing it. Good god, this was going to be bad.
Another soft sigh passed through her lips. "Please don't treat me differently now that you know. I may be Queen, but I am also a wolf. I enjoy flattery and conversation just as much as any others." What a fool I am.. She growled at herself. Asking someone to treat her the same way they would a normal wolf! That was never going to happen. Her feet shuffled nervously, and she had to fight to keep herself still. This was her first contact with her subjects. She would not screw this up, and make an embarrassment out of herself. She stood, waiting for Cúthail to speak again. If he ever would.

CÚTHAIL
I see, can't have you, can't leave you, there 'cause I must sometimes see you And I don't understand how you can keep me in chains Cúthail's head sagged back to it's former overly submissive bow, tilted just enough to the side to show a flash of throat. My apologies, Your Highness, I am fairly cut off from the world and did not realize who you were. Please forgive me for overstepping my bounds with such a wolf. If not for the richness of the browns and grays on his face, the blush would be very obvious as it rippled across his cheeks and maw. Shock filled him; he was supposed to treat her like any other wolf? How did one even treat normal wolves? He was not exactly an expert in either situation. I will do my best, Your Highness- er, ma'am... He trailed off, uncertain. Thing is, I'm not really sure how to act around normal wolves either. Never been around much friendly company, family members aside. No pack, been a loner since I left them... Once again trailing off, shocked he had just shared that information. After four years of shyness, it decided to leave him whilst in conversation with the Queen?! Unbelievable! Sorry, Your- ma'am, for my chatty-ness. I don't know what has gotten into me today.. Cúthail sat his butt on the ground, eyes never going closer to hers' then her neck and shoulders, though usually they stayed around her paws, or even his own. The accent became clearer and clearer as his shyness and embarrassment kicked in full throttle, just a hint of Irish getting nearer and nearer to indecipherable English.[/blockquote]

She nodded at his apology, a rueful twist of a smile on her lips. "No boundaries were overstepped. All is fine." Elektra knew this would happen. Once she had uttered the words, his maw became tangled with formalities, his mind no longer thinking of her as Elektra. She was the Queen to him now, and it didn't look as if that would change.
She gave a small sigh as he attempted to respond to her request. "Please call me by my name. That is the first step." To be honest, she hated the way Her Majesty and Your Highness sounded. It was awful, and it did not fit her. She would not take the formality unless meeting with an alpha of another pack or in another situation where it was needed. This was a friendly meeting between two wolves. Formalities did not belong here.
When he began again, explaining that he was a loner, she nodded "I understand. I was a loner myself, before I was chosen for Queen. I am still getting used to being around wolves, to be honest." He looked shocked at his words, as if he had no control over what he was telling her. Did he not want her to know this? The thought stang a little, but her expression did not change. Ouch.
She smiled as he apologized once again. "Please don't apologize anymore. You've done nothing wrong. I quite like your chattyness, I find it refreshing." It was much better than what she had been going through the past few days, and it had made her feel normal, to be able to talk to a wolf in such a manner. She gave him an encouraging smile, not wanting him to lose face and stop being himself.

CÚTHAIL
I see, can't have you, can't leave you, there 'cause I must sometimes see you And I don't understand how you can keep me in chains Cúthail saw the awkwardness of Elektra's smiles, and realized he was doing exactly as she had asked he would not. An apology jumped to his tongue just as she requested he stop apologizing, and he swallowed it instantly. Come on, idiot. Just pretend she never told you that she's Queen. It can't be that hard... I'm glad my endless noise doesn't bother you, you're just so easy to talk to. The smallish brute admitted with a shy smile. Probably doesn't hurt that it's been nearly two moons since I talked to anyone... His gaze shifted even further towards the ground, and he swallowed nervously, not wanting to tell her what had happened that night. Subconsciously, however, his swallow had been more exaggerated then normal, almost a reflexive stretch of his throat, and brought attention to the swirling mass of scars that knotted through the soft creamy fur in a quite intricate, nasty pattern. Every time he thought of that brute's powerful jaws closing on his throat, cutting off his air and bringing such agony... The reflexive swallowing was as much fear at the memory as instinctively checking to see if that pain and lack of air still existed, as it so clearly did in his mind. Plus you are fairly kind and patient, it seems. Last female I talked to ran off, that was enjoyable. He muttered sarcastically, flinching just barely at the memory, then Cúthail came back to earth and his eyes once again darted to Elektra's, meeting for the second time in a blaze of agony and hurt, and embarrassment as they slid back to his paws, the furthest down he'd looked so far. By now, his speech was an almost completely incoherent Irish-accented babble. How could he have let her know about that? Maybe she hadn't heard.. He had muttered it, maybe... He wouldn't allow himself to check her expression to find out, and waited for her mocking words. Oh, the pain! A male who couldn't even talk to females without causing them to run, with their tails tucked and ears pinned! This one would likely soon come running, charging, straight at him with teeth bared! The shame![/blockquote]

At the males words, she chuckled softly. "It is a welcome noise compared to what I've dealt with the past few weeks." She thoroughly enjoyed being with this male, despite him being a stranger. She felt comfortable around him, and he was quite easy to talk to. He evidently thought the same for her, and a smile warmed her regal face. She was glad he could talk to her. As he spoke again, she realized just how long it'd been since he'd had a conversation. The thought of him not being able to talk to someone, then confiding in the Queen, was ironic and funny. Elektra could understand the shock he still had on his face. What a surprise she had thrown on him.
Elektra jumped out of her thoughts as she realized Cúthail had dipped his lead lower, swallowing convulsively. Was it something she had said? Running over their conversation, she threw that explanation out the window. No, it must have been something that happened the last time he had talked to another wolf. The thought of someone hurting him, frankly pissed her off. It was wrong, and it was unfair.
His next words brought a smile to her face, but as he continued her face fell ever so slightly. A female had run away from him? As he looked up at her, his eyes conveyed many emotions, and she took a couple of involuntary steps towards him. Poor guy.. She was determined to make him feel better, and she lowered her head to look at his face. "Well, that was quite rude of her. I can assure you, however, I will not run away from you. You're quite stuck with me for the moment." Once she finished speaking, Elektra deliberately took a couple steps forward and sat, emphasizing her point. No, she would not leave him now. Not until he willed her away.

CÚTHAIL
I see, can't have you, can't leave you, there 'cause I must sometimes see you And I don't understand how you can keep me in chains Oh, I suppose I'm not being fair. It was not completely her fault. Let's just say I chose the wrong brute's daughter to approach. He swallowed again, and, taking a deep breath, tilted his head just slightly so she could see his mangled throat. I just wanted a chat.. I don't often get to talk to anyone; with my lifestyle. Maybe it is my choice to not see many others, but I still crave company from time to time... I wasn't after her virtue, I swear. I'm not like that! Pain flooded through those gray eyes, turning them into icy silver agonizing loneliness. I've never been with a female, not even as a friend, and I don't plan to do so with a complete stranger! But he didn't get that... He thought I wanted her... And he was a lot bigger then me. She fled, and he nearly killed me. Cúthail's voice was slowly becoming easier to understand, becoming less gibberish, but now he fought back tears of outrage and humiliation. Why was he telling her all of this? She probably didn't even care, and now he was just causing himself embarrassment! But he couldn't seem to stop talking, something about her caused him to open right up, like a vault of forbidden secrets. Pull yourself together, you bloody damn idiot! If you cry, you'll be causing yourself even more embarrassment! For the sake of Iudex! Blinking back tears, he kept his gaze carefully on a small pebble by his paws. Almost on accident, his eyes slid over to her paws, and he gave a tiny, miniscul gasp of surprise. Elektra had moved closer to him... When?? It surprised him to no ends, why would she want closer to him? Well, I enjoy your company, so I don't mind being stuck with you for the moment. He gave her a slow, shy smile. Then a terrible thought hit him, and he looked up in horror. Won't the King mind? Surely he'd not approve you hanging with a strange male after dark? He leaped to his paws and backed off slowly, fear in his eyes, not wanting a repeat incident. To have the King chase after him! That would be awful![/blockquote]

As he began to speak, a torrent of horror flooding from his lips, her eyes widened. It was a shock. A conversation with a strange female had almost cost him his life. The thought made her ears fall flat to her skull, a mixture of sorrow and anger sparking her temper. How could that have happened? Elektra saw the pain in his eyes, and she melted. How could anyone ever hurt him? There was no reason to. He was the kindest wolf she'd ever met, and he'd had a worst past than she had. As her thoughts turned darker, she shook herself, anger coursing through her. No, this was not about her past. Not even about her. He had been abused for conversation, and she wanted to help him, not even thinking about how it could not be helped. The past was the past, and it could not be changed.
When his thoughts shifted, a look of horror on his face at the idea of the King finding out about their talk. Shockingly, he began to move away, and she stood as a reflex, taking one more step. Her eyes narrowed in anger; not at Cúthail, but at the idea of Stolz hurting him. "No, Cúthail. He would not approve." She took another step, her head raising. "Although he is the King, and therefore my mate, he will not dictate my life. I am not his Sklavin, nor do I intend to be." Her face softened, and she sagged a little. No, Stolz would not approve, but what did it matter? Was she no longer allowed to have friends? "I'll kill him if he hurts you, Cúthail. I give you my word you will not be harmed." Once she finished, she looked behind her with a soft sigh. The sun had gone, and it was getting dark. She could not force herself to leave, and she hoped he wouldn't either. Elektra looked back at him, a sad smile on her maw. "I would like very much for you to stay and talk, but I cannot hold you here if you do not wish to stay." She sat as she finished, her tail curling around her thick paws. Would he run away?
