KASIMIRA The soft features of night had fallen over the land as a black shadow cautiously and laboriously made it's way toward the Irrsin border. It was a she-wolf by scent alone and her breath was strangely unnatural, a huffing and raspy rattle as she painfully sucked in the precious air. Crimson blood was crusted heavily on the wolf's neck and back left leg. The injured limb seemed a little oddly twisted, held up tightly towards the body as the wolf hobbled forward on three legs. But the ashen coat and flickering azure eyes were unmistakable, even through the gathering gloom. It was Kasimira. And she had won.
As the sweet success of victory and adrenaline had rushed through her, Kasimira had forgotten the wounded parts of her aching body and set off for home with a triumphant howl on her lips and a dignified flashing of her blue eyes. It had mattered not to her then that the limb had been broken; all things could heal and Kasimira would be no different. But now, as the blackness of night threatened to smother her until morning's releasing light, the Alpha was left to make her way home through the thick fog; her pace had become painstakingly slow as the energy and rush of the fight had worn off with time. All of the slaves would be sleeping by now--if they had followed their master's commands at all.
Thoughts drifted towards Tortuga. What if he hadn't made it to her lands? In this condition she was in no mind or physcial stature to be running around after a wolf she had only known for less than a day. But oh, how badly she wished to see the male and inhale his pine-scented coat once more, to see his beautiful, sparking eyes gazing at her lovingly. As the she-wolf continued her treck, the aroma hit her nose and the tingling sensation thrilled over her. He had made it! But how would he welcome her? Concerned and alarmed at her state or proud that he was courting such an aggressive and firey spirit? It was the thoughts and drive for her new love that made Kasimira push forward towards her home, her gait uneven and staggering. The hours they had shared together and the fresh memories seemed almost unreachable from where she was now. Still, those few moments had been so deep, so passionate, so vivacious. Kasimira trudged on wearily but with a new sensation in her paws as thoughts of the white male roused her emotions.
What would they all think of her? Kasimira could only faintly guess what her pelt looked like now; the rumpled fur, darkened blood coating her, the dark red dirt and grasses of the arena tossed carelessly through her pelt... Honestly, the high queen would look like a sklavin beat up for lunch. Kasimira paused, slightly nervous to return home. She wanted glory, power, and above all loyalty from her pack mates. Would she receive it in her disheveled condition? Once she told them the ending result of the battle they would see her for not a weak creature, but a strong, tough fighter and leader for them. Kasimira vainly tried to reassure her thummping heart but until she saw there reactions and responses, there would be no soothing her troubled mind.
As Kasimira's paws crossed the border the she-wolf staggered to her side, slipping onto the grass that was paled by the reflection of the moon. It was agony to move anymore; she had to find the pack and fast before some other creature took advantage of her weakened state. The queen lifted her cinder lips to the sky, letting loose a howl of summoning to her pack. Their Alpha was home. The song rang among the trees but it was over before it had started; her breath was frail and infirm and the she-wolf hadn't the energy or will at this point to make a better call. It was with a deep longing that she laid in the grasses of her home, mind still flickering images of the battle before her.
The pride that enveloped Kasimira was greater a feeling than any other accomplishment. Fighting had been long and rough but she had shown herself to be the true, dominant Alpha of Ravensbrück. For now. With a fading smirk Kasimira glanced at her stomach, considering how to tell Tortuga her surprise. Your going to be a father!
ooc- not very good... but hey. it's early.

Kyren hadn’t been willing to completely trust this Tortuga after he’d just arrived but he’d calmed down enough to quit blocking him from the females. What he’d said was most likely true and yet there would be no proof till the lady returned. Did he hope the male was lying? Perhaps he did. He had said his job was to watch over them, and he hadn’t mentioned her as Lady or Queen or any of that. It could have been a slip of the tongue but unfortunately instincts told him it wasn’t. He kept his eyes on the male, he waited for actions to show him for what he was as actions were always more telling than words.
Kyren would have reluctantly explained what had happened between him and Zy but a howl split the air for one moment before dying off, and it had not been much of a howl. His head turned, ears erect as his mind quickly worked out what to do. Damn, If she was injured such opportunities would present itself if not for a few factors. His head turned ever so slightly to look at the new male that had approached them and then had to also acknowledge he wasn’t sure what was wrong with the alpha. If not for these things he might have been able to make the alpha submit now, however it still wouldn’t be much of an honorable way to do things, almost as pathetic as running. The true thing to make him not act however was his own word that he would be loyal to her and help her reach goals. Attacking her accomplished neither of those.
“Come, we go to her.” With this he turned to a lope, and then paused for a fraction of a second to make sure the others followed. Once he was secure in that knowledge he took back off into a lope. For such a small body those little legs of his could move quickly enough. Still, if he was faster than the others he wouldn’t let them fall to far behind, and if they were faster he’d give his all to keep up. It wouldn’t look good to be far behind the others.
Arriving he’d offer his mistress a low bow as he had before, head touching ground before raising it and assessing her condition. His eye looked up, glaring behind her to the route she had travelled to make sure none were following her before looking back to her, “Lady, is there danger coming, or any that need to be dealt with?” His body seemed relaxed, not truly expecting there was anyone he’d have to find, but he wouldn’t assume anything.
(all this works well unless I have to edit it by someone having not come, if so I’ll modify it real fast)

MATRID
*
A howl.
Matrid had been tentatively watching Tortuga and Kyren when it sounded. Something about it was...off. Her ears swiveled forward, her head snapping around in the direction that the sound had came from. It had been short, broken. Clearly Lady Kasimira's, but the sound worried Matrid. She fretted for a moment, looking to the others to see what they would do. But did she really need to? They would go, of course. That much was quite obvious. A sklavin didn't just ignore their dominor's call, especially when it had sounded so...different. What if something had befallen their Queen?
"Come, we go to her." With a single backwards glance, Kyren took off in the general direction that the howl had come from. With a final look aimed towards Tortuga and Calliope, Matrid hurried after Kyren, her paws thumping against the ground as she ran. She was desperate to see Kasimira, to make sure that her Alpha had made it back alright. Something whispered to her that she hadn't; Matrid had always gotten these gut feelings. She learned a long time ago to listen to them, because more likely than not, it was her instincts muttering to her, trying to tell her things.
Kyren reached the Alpha first. She was a dark shape, slumped in the grass. As Matrid hurried forward, she noticed the dark red substance matted in Kasimira's ebony fur. Blood? Blood. She was bleeding. She faltered for just a moment before regaining herself, coming to a slow halt a short distance away from Kasimira. Her eyes raked over the she-wolf, coming to rest on one of her hing legs. Something was...wrong with it. It was twisted in a way that no leg should twist. Broken? Oh, it was broken. Matrid's stomach reeled. She had never thought herself to be squeamish, but this was testing her.
Swallowing the feeling of dread rising up inside of her, she looked over her shoulder for the others. Kyren was calmly asking if they had to worry about company, a smart question. She anxiously looked towards the border of Irrsin, but saw nor sensed nothing. She kept her guard up though, knowing that one could never be too careful. Many times with her previous dominor, she had seen wolves drop their guards and nearly be ripped to shreds for it. But that had been a different time, a different place with a violent dominor and many more fellow sklavins who would never come close to feeling like family. Then again, could the wolves she had met here accomplish such a feat?
These thoughts were not important now, and Matrid mentally scolded herself. She had no business letting her mind wander back to her past. It was her current dominor she should show concern for. Matrid inched forward a little further, head low and tail lower. She didn't bother trying to chase both the admiration and the worry from her eyes. Yes, she admired Kasimira for not only going into the challenge and possibly winning - Matrid had to wonder what the outcome of the battle was - but also for returning home with these types of injuries. Would she herself have been able to fight the darkness closing in, kept it at bay long enough to drag herself home? She honestly couldn't say.
"Lady Kasimira..." The words were slipping through her maw before she could stop them, soft and laced with a hint of worry. She knew that beneath that worry, awe could be heard in the mix. She tried to conceal neither of these, because it would have been effortless. Her eyes would have given her away.

Tortuga
A howl shattered the banter between Tortuga and Kyren, causing the snowy brute to freeze.
Azul eyes turned towards the horizon, coat bright in the moonlight, causing him to stand out. He watched as Kyren loped off, the female called Matrid following close behind him. Tortuga was still for a long moment. Not because he didn't want to rush to Kasimira and welcome her return with warm affection. He did. But that beautiful howl, almost sounding haunted in the still silence of the night, might as well have jolted through the brute like lightning.
She was calling to them. To him. And he was standing there like a beast struck dumb. Snorting, he shook his head. And then he ran.
He caught up with the others after a short moment, but he did not overtake them. He kept up a steady pace behind Matrid, almost frightened of what he might find. He knew she had challenged another canine. Was she victorious? Was she injured? These two questions raced through Tortuga's mind, an uneasy feeling knotting in the pit of his stomach as he moved. He prayed then that she was alright. If she wasn't...well, would he be able to bare it? Perhaps he was simply being a pessimist. Perhaps she was perfectly fine. But he had seen the worried look on Matrid's face as well, could still see it now in the way she moved. Was she concerned as well? Kyren seemed calm enough, but Tortuga didn't know if the brute simply had a level head, or if he himself was overreacting.
Kyren stopped first, speaking words that Tortuga was too far away to catch to a figure on the ground. Kasimira. When Matrid stopped a small distance away from Kyren and her Alpha, Tortuga did not. He proceeded forward at a brisk trot before bringing himself to an abrupt halt beside Kyren. His attention was not on the other male, however, but instead on his mate. Who was, as Tortuga had feared, badly injured. His observation of her gathered that the fur at her throat was thick with blood, and her hind leg was clearly broken. He could only begin to imagine the pain she was in, but he didn't have to. He could see it in her eyes, and it made rage stir inside of him, awakening almost as if it had been a slumbering beast. He bit back the snarl that had nearly slipped from his maw, stepping forward instead.
The pads of his feet were silent against the damp ground. The rays of the moonlight made the particles in the air visible as they danced around Kasimira's form. He wanted to nuzzle her, to comfort her, but he was scared to hurt her. At the same time, he felt a fierce pride, because somehow he felt that she had won. And even if she hadn't, he knew she must have fought with everything in her, and it made the pride swell inside of him like a balloon. She was amazing.
"Lady, is there danger coming, or any that need to be dealt with?”
Tortuga considered this as he lowered himself to the ground beside her, careful not to brush against her leg as he simply looked at her. If there was danger, he was putting himself in a compromising position by laying down, but his concern was more for Kasimira. He cast another glance to Kyren, a concerned flicker in his eyes before his focus was back on her. He wasn't entirely sure if she wanted him showing affection towards her in this moment, with the others near and with the pain so clear on her features. But he had to say something. "I'm incredibly proud of you." The words were simple, but the tone of his voice and the look he gave her told more than words ever could have.

KASIMIRA Night settled upon the land as Kasimira gently laid her head on the ground, her sides aching with effort from her scrabble home. A nightingale cried through the distance with a mournful song that echoed the torture that surrounded the black she-wolf. Maybe the pack hadn't heard her. She knew the howl had been weak; had she underestimated the range? The thrumming of nearby paws alerted her to a nearby presence and the fears hastily crept back into the female's mind, her white teeth bared in a snarl. Although she was handicapped her facade showed the viciousness of a wolf backed into a corner with no way out. She was not to be messed with.
Relief washed over the female as scent of Irrsin rushed over her, with the figures of her claimed sklavins showing themselves next. At the head of the group was Kyren, who bowed in a deep respect when he reached his mistress. Kasimira was utterly impressed--even in her weakened state she had not been disillusioned enough to expect such a response from her newest addition. Hmph. The ebony vixen eyed him warily. Could he be trying to get on her good side with simple flattery or was this true devotion? In the darkness of the night with a sliver of a moon, Kasimira was unable to clearly read his face. Check on that problem tomorrow.
“Lady, is there danger coming, or any that need to be dealt with?”
Kyren immediatly was asking her questions, his single amber eye narrowing around the group suspiciously. With a weary voice Kasimira replied, eyes fluttering half closed.
"No, I'm sure Phantom will not be setting any paw near Irrsin for quite some time; I can assure you of that."
A wry smirk wove onto Kasimira's ashen lips and she grinned at the male, her tail wagging in victorious pleasure and thumping loudly as it hit the earth. Whatever fatigue her body felt, the bliss of her triumph rose over it like a calm wave, repressing the hallucinations that were steadily over coming her mind. It was then that her blue orbs caught Matrid's lurking shadow that flitted behind Kyren. Her female sklavin's eyes were rather large and filled with an unsubdued horror; if Kasimira had not known her condition she would have assumed by Matrid's alarmed face that she had lost a leg.
"Lady Kasimira..."
The noise was barely a whisper and Kasimira's pelt rippled with glee at a hint of admiration. Kasimira herself wasn't quite sure if the wounds alone that she received were anything to be proud of; rather her intensive fighting spirit and the drive she held inside that had pushed herself on to win against such a powerful opponent. That feat she would pride herself on anytime someone took notice. Kasimira leaned back on her shoulder to peer around Kyren and Matrid with a puzzled face. Where were the others? Surely they all would have come to greet their Alpha home? With a snarl forming on her breath Kasimira pulled her frame forward, anger making her rise to her paws.
With her azure eyes flashing displeasure towards the pair, the she-wolf caught his scent. Like a dream the white male trotted hurriedly towards her and it was with a sinking hostility that Kasimira sank back down into the meadow grasses, her eyes gravitating to his. He had come. Tortuga had actually come. For a split second Kasimira didn't know how to respond, her eyes simply following him like a pup on it's mother. The obvious attachment to her that hung in his orbs was breath taking and horribly gratifying all at once.
"I'm incredibly proud of you."
The night faded from view as Kasimira was silenced by his words of praise, those graceful words that reverberated in her mind, his tone and sweet complexion fluttering inside of her. Tortuga's white coat slid behind her without a single touch to her broken leg that laid uselessly at her side. Kasimira half glanced at the limb before softly whining an appealing delight at Tortuga. The emotions that bolted and shifted between the two of them was almost worth the agony she had suffered at her enemy's misdeeds. For starters, Phantom would not blindly mess with her again. She had won Korie, a new wolf in her pack, another mouth to feed. And to top it all Kasimira had somehow landed Tortuga as a mate.
Don't forget the puppies! It was a small voice inside of her that reminded the soot colored vixen of the results of the previous night. Kasimira knew it all too well now; her scent had changed and even now a slight hint of the coming litter was planted in her mind. But how to tell him? Kasimira cast an indulgent look at her love before considering Kyren and Matrid. First, they needed shelter for the night. She would be able to tell Tortuga the news of her pregnancy then. But not in front of these sklavins; they were the lowest and as such they would find out last. With a return of her former threatening posture and tone Kasimira dutifully spoke to the slaves, her voice firm and impatient as she resided in the cool grasses.
"Where exactly are Zy and Calliope?"
It was a direct question. And although she herself could not back up such bold dominance at a time like this, Kasimira doubted Tortuga would not leap to her defense if the query was not answered. Softer in tone this time the black female spoke to her mate, her eyes betraying the weariness that lingered inside of her.
"I think we should get to the dens. We all need rest; introductions, inquiries, and other affairs can be taken care of tomorrow."
Other affairs. Like litters. Happiness bubbling through her pelt and a tender glance at the blue eyes that flickered back at her, Kasimira daintily lifted herself off the ground. Disgust rolled through her when she caught the strands of grass and clots of blood that clung to her; but to her disappointment it was no use now. Tomorrow was only a day away.
Lead me home, love.

I used up all of my tricks
"No, I'm sure Phantom will not be setting any paw near Irrsin for quite some time; I can assure you of that."
|
Kyren nodded, and seeing her look at him with that smile on her face his own grin crossed his features. It did not matter if he liked her or hated her. It did not matter that she put herself above him. Not at this second anyhow. The feeling of victory, the rush it gives, there is nothing like it. For this frozen moment in time he imagined how she felt, the pain that ran through her mixing itself with the knowledge that she had won. There had been cost but all was worth it. Somewhere out there another wolf, this Phantom, was having to deal with pain of defeat.
Giving his head a small shake, clearing out the thrill of victory he assessed her damage. Well, she was a mess but she was at least still aware of her surroundings and able to speak. No damage done to her skull, or if any damage was done it would just be proof of what are hard head she had. Apparently his dominor was going to be injured for quite a while, and possibly lame forever. A female alpha was demeaning enough, but now one that was going to be handicapped? Little of course to keep him from escaping but again he just couldn’t run away. What alpha ever runs away?
Kyren watched Kas pull herself up, saw her gaze sweeping the area and gritted his own teeth at what she was noticing. Calliope and Zy, neither were present. It wasn’t so much he hadn’t known, but he had been focusing a lot more on the alpha and her reactions. At least Matrid had followed his instructions, but he was rather surprised that Calliope had not. What else could he have done? He could have herded her all the way here, nipping at ankles and such but that would have taken longer and he wasn’t sure at the time what was wrong. No, this was no error on my part.
Kyren watched Kas’ anger grow, inwardly held his breath as she started to snarl realizing it would be safest to try and make himself smaller in response to her anger. That is what most likely a sklavin would do. I did nothing wrong! He continued to stand quietly taking this time to think up the best answers to whatever she may ask instead of throwing out words that might calm her or make her angrier.
I hope that you like this, but you probably won't Her anger vanished, she lay down. What? Kyren turned his head so he could see Tortuga come up. Well…great. She was entirely to happy to see him. Ky’s jaw clamped shut. It was the only action he could take that wouldn’t give away his frustration. By the look in her eye’s she’d found herself a mate. Maybe it was less humiliating following a female but having to deal with two alpha’s was going to make things two times harder. Kyren was confident he could make the sklavins learn they were below him, but what could he do with the alpha male? At least he hadn’t given this male his word to do all he could for him.
Kyren watched as Tortuga started to lay down next to Kas, then turned his head to face behind them, as if waiting for the others. Amber eyes glared off into the land behind them, the only location it would currently be safe to glare.
"Where exactly are Zy and Calliope?"
Ky turned his head around once more to face her, and of course facing Tortuga since he was right there with her. A bob of his head in assent to the question, it would get old if he were to bow every time she spoke, “Zy went off hunting a while earlier, I’m not sure how far he ranged to say if he’s on his way.” Ky would have loved to make it sound worse, that Zy must have ignored her howl because he preferred hunting but he would not sink to petty means quite this early in the game.
“As far as Calliope, she was with us when we heard you howl. I’m afraid I have no excuse as to why she didn’t come. I did not try to force her here, my apologies if you would have preferred otherwise, but your call sounded strained so I felt best to hurry.” Ky’s tone was blunt and to the point. No signs of fear of her displeasure or defensiveness of placing blame elsewhere.
you think you're cooler than me Ky went quiet as she spoke to Tortuga about going back to the den. Introductions tomorrow? Maybe he’d find out a bit more about the sklavins. “Matrid, stay off to the left side of Lady Kas, perhaps about 25ft out in case there’s any trouble. I’ll stay on the right side.” A pause as he glanced again at the lady questioningly, “Unless of course Lady Kasimira would prefer something else?”
How far could he push this part he was playing? He knew now not to dare try and tell Tortuga what to do and imagined he’ want to be beside Kas and perhaps speak with her quietly as he helped her to the den. It would also offer some protection should any predator come around thoughtful of the injured wolf. The real question was is it acceptable for him to order the other sklavin while in her presence as long as he verified with her his thoughts. I’m a leader. I have to be able to lead something! Even if it only is a bunch of pathetic sklavins. Words;; 945 words Muse;; ok Puppets;; Kyren for Kasimiri, Matrid, TortugaNotes;; can't seem to get quotes in right color at the moment, work in progress! MATRID
*
"No, I'm sure Phantom will not be setting any paw near Irrsin for quite some time; I can assure you of that."
Matrid couldn't fight the smile that slid onto her maw upon hearing her Queen's words. So Kasimira had won. Not that Matrid had doubted the fierce, proud female for one moment. Judging by the Alpha's smirk and thumping tail, she was proud of it. Matrid would have been, too. The only 'fights' Matrid had ever gotten herself into was when another sklavin had decided to take his anger out on Matrid. Even then, the she-wolf had only defended herself long enough to get away from him. With her size and strength, she likely would have been able to do more to the offending brute, but Matrid had never been one for fighting. Even as a puppy, she would have rather played a nice game of chase with her siblings instead of wrestling. She marvelled at how little one changed sometimes.
Suddenly, Tortuga was moving past her and Kyren. The look he and the Alpha exchanged left no room for discussion: they were mates. She could practically feel the air humming, the connection between the two stronger than Matrid would have been able to put into words. Just the way they looked at each other screamed affection, and it made Matrid's smile grow. When she turned to look at Kyren, however, his expression was quite he opposite. He was glaring into the distance, and Matrid tilted her head with confusion for a moment. Was it the idea of having to listen to Tortuga as well? Judging by the way he had reacted towards Zy, Matrid assumed that was it.
"Where exactly are Zy and Calliope?"
Caught up in the idea of her Mistress returning, Matrid had nearly forgotten about the others. She turned to look behind her, her dark eyes finding nothing but grass and the starry sky. She cringed a little, almost feeling bad for Calliope and Zy. Kasimira was obviously displeased, and Matrid was extremely glad that she had followed Kyren in that moment. As she listened to Kyren explain that Zy was hunting and Calliope had stayed behind for some unknown reason, she continued to watch for the others. After a few moments she decided that they really weren't coming, and turned back to face Kasimira, who looked very unhappy indeed. It made Matrid feel uneasy inside, but at least she wasn't still quivering at the sight of Kasimira's blood like a mere pup.
When Kyren finished speaking, she nodded her head in agreement to what he had said. "I thought Calliope was behind me, Mistress. I'm not entirely sure why she decided to stay, either."
When Kasimira spoke of returning to the den, Matrid was relieved. It had been a long, tedious day and she was feeling especially weary on this night. Normally she would stay up well into the night, watching the sky or simply thinking over things, but she knew that she would fall into sleep swiftly tonight. From her time at Auktion rock to where she stood tonight, she had encountered many wolves, and it had worn the poor sklavin out. But she would not allow herself to appear drowsy in front of her Mistress. She lifted her head a bit more, although not nearly enough so that it would seem she was attempting to appear superior. She knew better than that.
“Matrid, stay off to the left side of Lady Kas, perhaps about 25ft out in case there’s any trouble. I’ll stay on the right side. Unless of course Lady Kasimira would prefer something else?”
The order startled Matrid and she looked to Kyen, staring at him for a long moment. Personally, she had nothing against the male, yet she was just starting to see more and more of his dominant personality. She had to admit that the things he said were logical and usually left no room for discussion. He thought things out well, and she supposed that in this case, she would listen to him. If, of course, Kasimira wanted it. She turned to face her Alpha again, tail swaying slightly.
"Whatever you wish, Lady Kasimira."

I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake
Being with Kasimira again was like that first breath of air upon resurfacing from underwater.
It made Tortuga feel very much alive, very...happy. He didn't know how long it had been since he had felt truly, genuinely happy. He had been content, sure. He had been able to tolerate life despite it's many blunders and screw-ups. But here, reunited with her although it had only been hours apart, he was blissfully glad to see her. Even with her injuries, with her exhaustion, he found her breath-taking. And the look in her eyes when she first saw him approaching...it was all so very worth it.
He smiled warmly to her when showed her glee for his compliment, reminding himself to do so more often if it would mean hearing her precious whine of delight. Then, he glanced to the others present, his gaze falling on an unhappy looking Kyren. His eyes flickered with amusement and curiosity, but he said nothing, simply watching and listening to the affairs of the pack. His pack. His tail gave a single thump at the thought of ruling with Kasimira, constantly at her side. What brute wouldn't want to be in Tortuga's current position?
As she questioned the whereabouts of the other slaves, Tortuga wondered the same but waited for an answer to come. And it did from Kyren, stating that Zy had not returned from hunting and that Calliope had simply stayed behind. Matrid spoke up too, voicing the fact that she had no clue as to why Calliope had not answered the Alpha's calls.Very interesting.

And I gotta get outta here Since the moment he had stepped foot into Irrsin and encountered the others, he had been observing them, trying to get a feel for their personality. He wanted to know what made them tick, so to speak. Where were their lines? What would happen when they were crossed? Tortuga quite liked to pick at people's brains, and if they allowed it, well...he'd have fun with it. For now he didn't know very much about them, but he hoped that would change. Soon. And that he would get to meet this Zy fellow.
"I think we should get to the dens. We all need rest; introductions, inquiries, and other affairs can be taken care of tomorrow."
He immediately turned his head towards his mate when she spoke, ears swiveling forward attentively. He nodded to her suggestion. "I'm sure the others would appreciate rest." His eyes met hers then, tacking on a silent 'and you, as well'. He did not voice this out loud, never wanting to make the mistake of making Kasimira seem weak. She certainly was not. But his worry for her was clear in the look he shot her, unable to be chased away until he knew for certain that she was alright. and i'm begging you, i'm begging you, i'm begging you to be my escape. As she got to her feet, he hurried to do the same, keeping close to her. If she needed to lean on him, it was clear that he would be there. His gaze fell to her hindleg again and his own back leg gave a funny little tingle, a sympathy pain as his mother had once called it. He knew that Kasimira would not want them pitying her, however, so he kept his thoughts to himself. He wouldn't want the others pitying him had he been in her situation, either. Especially when she had won. The thought of a victorious Kasimira made the pride he felt for her steeply incline, and he had to fight to keep the smile from his maw.
When Kyren spoke, Tortuga's deep blue eyes found the male, head tilting slightly to the side as the sklavin gave an order to Matrid, who seemed tentative for a moment. In the end they both turned to Kasimira for her opinion, as was expected of course, and Tortuga patiently waited off to the side as they awaited Kasimira's response.
He wondered how he appeared to the others. Did they think him calm, lazy? How would they react when they really got to know the bold, reckless, talkative brute? He smirked a little at the thought, tail waving back and forth very slowly, not quite a wag. Getting to know the others in the morning was certainly going to be amusing.

KASIMIRA As Kyren began to babble incessantly, Kasimira shot a glance at Tortuga, her blackened brow quirked. It was all too apparent that he thought highly of himself, speaking with such an even tone and only a deeply growing respect found in his glimmering eyes that held no traces of easy submission. Was he looking for a higher position in the pack than he held now? It certainly seemed that way as he barked out more commands. Kasimira scrabbled upward and gratefully leaned on Tortuga for a moment before settling off at her own pace.
“Matrid, stay off to the left side of Lady Kas, perhaps about 25ft out in case there’s any trouble. I’ll stay on the right side.”
Silence and a icy glare presented itself to Kyren; the bold dictation of her slaves was the absolute line. Flicking her ears in agitation and letting a light snarl slip off her lips, Kasimira extended her limping trot to lead the group forward as Kyren took a moment to consider her reaction and his words.
“Unless of course Lady Kasimira would prefer something else?”
"I would prefer that you shut your trap for the time being. We will discuss your behavior in relation to your place in the pack later."
Kasimira's fur bristled uncomfortably, the heat and anger boiling inside. What she really wanted to do was collapse in her den with the sweet aroma of Tortuga washing over her--On second thought, the queen had a job for her subject.
"Kyren, please fetch Calliope and Zy. Bring them to the dens."
The she-wolf gracefully flipped her head over her shoulder, casting him an affronted look that dared him to disobey. He would not, she was almost certain. Kasimira knew she would not beat him in a fight in this state but she didn't want a sklavin's useless sympathy or compassionate judgment on what should be done to ensure her safely. She could take care of herself.
"As for you, Matrid, please accompany him. I wouldn't want things getting out of hand."
It was then that the queen shot Kyren a knowing glare; she had seen him and Zy arguing before her leave for the falls and she prayed to Eperna he was left wondering how she had figured him out. Serves him right. Regardless of whether she was heavily considering appointing the boisterous male to Beta or not, he needed to realize that his place in pack life would always be below hers on the totem pole. Kasimira bolted as quick as she could into the night as if to prove her superiority, her three good legs balancing quite precariously as she rocketed along, eyes searching. It seemed moons that she had been gone instead of only a day or two. There! The dens were right ahead of them, the large gap in rubble and rocks deepening into the bleak shadows of the lingering night. Kasimira roughly headed towards the middle one and with a quick glimpse back at Tortuga to make sure the brute had followed her, the she-wolf slunk inside.
It was strangely warm inside, almost as if the rocks had held the heat from the sun's blistering rays during the day. Kasimira was quick to lay down at the back side, her flanks heaving with the effort. It was time to tell him before some wolf needed her; besides, the father-to-be deserved to know first. The she-wolf's blue eyes sparkled brilliantly in the semi-darkness, illuminated by the slim light that bounced from the outside world. What would he think? Pups. The thoughts of little wolves that would look like their parents in both appearance and attitude... Kasimira's paws kneaded the ground impatiently and she broke her thoughts aloud with a playful yet reserved hint to her voice.
"I'm going to have your pups, love..."
There. She had said it. Kasimira briefly tried to read his face but it was no use with his features turned away from the moon's bright fire. The vixen was still rather borderline on whether the idea of pups completely thrilled or horrified her. Sure, they would be beautiful children--she was beautiful for Eperna's sake--but would she be the same domineering personality as she was now? Or would motherhood soften her distinct edges? It was with a flick of her ears that the vixen disregarded the thoughts; she would retain her aggressive stance she was known for. Heck, she might become more protective of her "harem" as Zy had called it, in guarding and being a shield to her dear offspring. Oh, the possibilities...
Speaking of possibilities, what was to be done about Kyren? His brash attitude was overbearing at times. Would he even make a good Beta? The thoughts churned in the female's mind as she tossed the idea over. Finally she simply voiced her musings aloud, a slight curiosity at what Tortuga had thought of her mangled, sklavin bunch.
"On another note, how should we approach Kyren? I had considered Beta..."
Kasimira's voice trailed off and her gaze landed on Tortuga. Oh how she loved him. It all seemed to circle back to that one resounding thought. I love you. No words were spoken aloud but her eyes betrayed all the feeling that tore through her softened heart.

I used up all of my tricks
Kyren was keeping his attention primarily on Kas and couldn’t see much of Matrid but he felt her eyes on him. While there was no reply from Matrid concerning what he had just told her to do, there was certainly a reply from Kasimir, more than he’d really wanted. With her glare and that partial snarl there was no doubt he had found the line he’d been searching for. Kyren had hoped for more but imagined he had already past what he had expected.
For all the logic he felt an anger stirring inside his own gut, forming at the idea of this she-wolf snarling at him and giving him orders. Somehow it was harder to calmly accept an order the more she enforced the demand. How wonderful it sounded to charge in front of her and snarl right back, to tell this female that she best not snarl at him. How she was weak and he was strong. Oh yah, it was goo that he was travelling behind her.
I hope that you like this, but you probably won't
"I would prefer that you shut your trap for the time being. We will discuss your behavior in relation to your place in the pack later."
That sounded wonderful. If she was planning to hurt him to prove she was his superior then she… she what? Had he not agreed to these terms. The rage was still there but the focus of it was shifting. What the hell type of fool was he to go through this? What was he thinking giving his word to one such as this? Was this alpha she had challenged even all that strong or was she perhaps weak to have been torn apart like that. Winning did not always meant you did all that well. He had agreed to follow a female!
The idea of attacking just about anything was sounding real appealing right now. Images of ripping into the lady’s injured leg, or scratching out her eyes, maybe even just tearing through her neck were seemingly real appealing. His orders to Matrid were good, the only thing she had against it was his asking her afterwards. Hey, he’d asked! She could have just said ‘ask next time’ or ‘no, don’t, nah she had to find some threatening way to say it. Not to say he wouldn’t do something similar but he was a natural alpha and a male and he deserved better than this! For a moment his thoughts of revenge again turned towards his brother instead of Kas.
"Kyren, please fetch Calliope and Zy. Bring them to the dens."
What else could he do for a reply at that except to lower his head in a respectful manner, his eye staying below her eye level. Those eyes still showed no of submissiveness or fear, just the respect of one wolf acknowledging the other as in being in charge.
"As for you, Matrid, please accompany him. I wouldn't want things getting out of hand."
you think you're cooler than me
Ah that look she cast him. Now there was a surprise indeed. He hadn’t sensed her there but considering she hadn’t had a moment to talk privately with any of the other wolves she must have been watching. Ky cocked his head to the side sighty, his eyes dancing in amusement and this time the small nod was more in regards to her winning a battle, though of course not the war. “Of course Lady Kasimiri.” His words were soft, hardly above a whisper. It was an attempt at sounding soft spoken but it was hard to hide the amusement at the game he was seeing this could become. Let the games begin. Best be careful, or I’ll confuse enjoying a bit of competition to the female giving him the competition.
It was wonderfully amusing, until he had loped away for about a goof twenty seconds and then he felt the irritation coming back. He didn’t particularly want to go after Calliope and Zy, especially not Zy. He glanced back once to make sure Matrid was with him and then picked up his pace, letting his feet run in symetry with the beat of his seething heart. How long had he been a sklavin for that he was already getting sick with this? I trapped myself! “Stay to my left side.” He didn’t need to explain why, and yet suddenly pride acknowledged reason. His pride may not feel a need to explain his reasons, but it would be safer letting her know his reasons. “If you didn't notice, I’m blind in my left eye. I want you to cover up for my….” Oh it was hard to bite out the last word, “…weakness.” Showing yourself as powerful while hiding a problem was not true power. Now, where the hell was Zy an Calliope? Kyren seriously didn’t feel all that ready to deal with Zy, not peacefully at least.

MATRID
*
The moment Matrid caught sight of the glare that Kasimira shot towards Kyren, she was glad that it hadn't been directed at her. The snarl that followed wasn't much better, and Matrid reminded herself to never step out of line. She looked steadily at the ground as Kasimira reprimanded Kyren, her eyes tracing the jagged lines of a small rock beside her paw.
"Kyren, please fetch Calliope and Zy. Bring them to the dens. As for you, Matrid, please accompany him. I wouldn't want things getting out of hand."
Matrid's head lifted immediately, ears perking upon hearing her name. She dipped her head once in a sort of bow, muttering an obedient, "Yes, Lady Kasimira." All the while, her mind was trying to process how Kasimira had known about the trouble between Zy and Kyren. She was glad that she hadn't started any arguements, or worse, tried to leave. But her mind hadn't even stumbled across either one of those ideas when she had been grouped around the other sklavins.
Kasimira suddenly took off into the night, and Matrid watched the alpha for a long moment before a small breeze brushed against her body, causing her to shake herself and then turn to look at Kyren. He, too, suddenly loped off, and Matrid found herself scrambling after him, attempting to keep up with the male. She didn't dare overtake him, but instead moved along behind him until he told her otherwise. “Stay to my left side.” The she-wolf found herself wondering why it was always the left side, but she didn't have to wonder for very long. He answered her unasked question shortly after she thought it.
“If you didn't notice, I’m blind in my left eye. I want you to cover up for my…weakness.”
Ah. She had noticed Kyren's eye before, but she was not one to stare blatantly or ask questions. Rather, she accepted it and moved on. But now an explanation had come to her, and it made since for him to want her to cover that side. She nodded, pivoting her body and trotting forward until she was jogging along to his left, at his side now rather than behind him. She would remember to cover Kyren's left side from now on, and never to creep up on him when he wouldn't be able to see her. Not because she thought she had an advantage over him; no, that was foolish. Simply because she knew that there was a possibility of startling him when he couldn't see her on said side, and a startled wolf was a dangerous wolf.
When she glanced at Kyren again, his expression was less than happy. She wondered what was going through his head, making him look like that. Was it having to listen to Kasimira, having to obey her every order or risk being punished? Or was there something else lurking underneath, something that she had no idea about and probably never would? She supposed every wolf had their secrets.
She turned away from Kyren to look around, trying to catch a glimpse of Zy or Calliope somewhere. So far, her eyes found nothing but the shapes that the moon illuminated, none seeming to resemble the two sklavin's they were searching for. She gave a soft sigh, partially relieved at finally having a break from everything, and partially worried that they might not find the two. What if they had left? Matrid nearly snarled to herself when she realized that her thoughts had taken a pessimistic turn again. She was going to have to break that habit, and break it fast. Very fast.
For a while she was silent, simply content to search along with Kyren. She had never been the type of wolf that particularly minded silence. She had been taught that it wasn't bad or awkward; it was needed from time to time. But finally her gaze began to flicker towards him again, and deciding that she should at least try to be on decent terms with one of the sklavins, she cleared her throat and spoke up.
"Are you alright?" She asked, before realizing that she might should elaborate. "You seem a little...down, I suppose, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Hopefully I don't end up offending you." She wasn't sure if it was concern she felt, or simple curiosity. If she was lucky, he wouldn't snap one of her ears off for asking. She never knew what would set other wolves off anymore; each one seemed to have a line that was either drawn extremely thick or extremely thin. Was Kyren a thin-lined wolf? Although she had seen him argue with Zy, she couldn't be certain. Shaking her head once more to clear her thoughts, she loped along at his side, her eyes occasionally glancing over at him expectantly.

I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake
Kasimira's words towards the male sklavin had Tortuga chuckling softly to himself, loving her attitude. She was feisty to say the least, and Tortuga couldn't say that he didn't like it, as it would have been a lie. He watched Kyren's facial expression, noting the flicker of...anger, was it? Perhaps he'd ask more about that later. For now, he was anxious to get Kasimira back to the den so that she could rest. When she briefly leaned against him, he nuzzled her softly before watching with a fond expression as she sprang off. Seconds later, he was bounding after her.
Tortuga sprinted along at Kasimira's side, the wind screaming past his ears, toenails occasionally clicking on small, exposed rocks. He already loved in here in Irrsin; it was such beautiful territory, so peaceful and serene. There was nothing but flat land, nothing keeping the moon's rays from lighting up his white pelt, no trees for him to dodge around. He could run flat out across the land, such as he was doing now, and he adored it.
In the distance, his blue eyes spotted the openings in the rocks that served as the dens. Kasimira reached them first, ducking inside. Before he did the same, Tortuga paused and looked over his shoulder, eyes scanning the area. When he spotted nothing, he slunk inside after his mate, who was already resting at the back of the cave. He took notice that she was kneading the ground with her paws almost nervously, but before he could ask why, she was speaking.
"I'm going to have your pups, love..."
The words ran through him like an electrical current, and he stopped mid-stride. He was halfway to her now, and for a moment, his expression was blank as he took in the news. Slowly, very slow, emotions began to overtake the male as her words bounced around inside of his skull. After a few moments, the shock had set in and he was rearranging his face to portray the sudden excitement and happiness that was running rampant through him. He hurried to her, collapsing on her uninjured side and leaning against her. He stayed like that for a moment, before giving her the most loving look he could muster.
|
And I gotta get outta here "Pups? Kasimira, that's wonderful. And..." He paused, his voice slightly lower when he spoke again, soft and sincere. "...exactly what I wanted." His words shocked even him, but he knew they were true. He had wanted puppies with Kasimira, and now he was getting his wish. He couldn't keep the excitement out of his voice, out of his eyes, his great beating heart. He felt like a giddy puppy himself, and he shot her a wolfish grin, his pearly ivory fangs expose for a moment, as white as the rest of him.
He could imagine how they would look now, how beautiful their eyes would be. What kind of father would he be? Would he stop being as reckless, in turn becoming more considerate so that his pups would always have their father? Or would he remain the same Tortuga, simply...softened a bit towards his offspring, just as he had softened towards his mate? It was a curious thought, one that made him want to think more on it later. Not now. Now, he was curled next to Kasimira, who had just revealed that she was pregnant. He was going to let nothing ruin his moment for the two.
For a while, he laid in silence near her, his head resting on the ground beside her. He kept shooting her happy little glances, his tail sliding back and forth across the ground, making a soft swishing noise. It was hard to contain his glee.
When she finally spoke again, it was on the topic of the sklavin, Kyren.
"On another note, how should we approach Kyren? I had considered Beta..."
She was asking for his opinion, and it reminded Tortuga that he would be helping her with her decisions. He would have to think over it well, consider his answer before he gave it to her. He wanted to prove to her that he could be useful, not just a brute to shower her with affection and them dumbly stand by when it got to serious affairs. Tortuga had quite an impressive brain, if he could just remember to use it all of the time.
and i'm begging you, i'm begging you, i'm begging you to be my escape. He thought over everything he had seen of Kyren. The ending result of the argument with Zy, the way he had reacted to Tortuga's original appearance, his behavior when speaking to the other sklavins and they way he seemed to want to be in charge of them. So far, Tortuga had not heard Kyren suggest something unwise. A bit out of line, perhaps, but nothing blatantly stupid. He did seem to want to protect Kasimira, and that was a plus in Tortuga's book. Then again, the sklavin also seemed to have a bit of a temper, that much had been obvious. Couldn't everyone, though?
Hm. Tortuga tried to choose his words carefully as he lifted his head, his eyes holding a contemplative look. "I could see him having the potential to be Beta." He began thoughtfully, his tail still sliding back and forth, slower now as if with thought. "He just needs to be reminded that, overall, you're in charge. Not him."
There, that had been easy enough to explain. Tortuga smiled at her, but his thoughts were still spinning in his head, reviewing all of the other Sklavin's as well now. Matrid, Calliope, and what little he had seen of Zy...
"I personally think you've got an impressive bunch of sklavins gathered. I'm not well acquainted with them as of yet, but they seem to be a decent group." This, coming from Tortuga, was a compliment. Which he could easily say was something he wasn't familiar with giving. He would watch or listen to others with an extremely critical eye, never offering up praise or kind words. He was a hard brute to impress, but already, Kasimira had swept him away.
