SAYANG Night was almost fully upon the land. Like a raven, it had flown into the daylight, robbing the living of the sun in one fell swoop. And as the yellow rays were stripped from the land, something moved into the barren wasteland that was Einheit. Sayang, her white and black pelt a beacon in the darkness, stood on the border of the last remaining treeline, breathing heavily as she gazed over the land. It had taken her days to get away from the slave traders who had been chasing her after Stolz's disappearence. For one reason or another, the king was gone. Gone, and without a trace. In one way or another, Koravelle's leadership had been reduced to nothing, and with it, Sayang's life had been turned upside down.
She wasn't quite sure why she had come back to Einheit after everything that had happened. It had been the source of her torture and her pups--which were more appropriately Phantom's pups--and everything that she hated of Ravensbrück. It reminded her of her place as a sklavin. Vaguely, the female thought back to her days in Sobibor. The times were similar, but she would have given anything to be back in those moments. Here in this land she had pups, she had responsiblity. And at the same time, as she stared out over the dry land of Einheit, the she-dog was blindingly aware of the fact that she meant nothing to anyone here.
Sayang ruffed her short fur and shook the thoughts away. She needed to find Phantom and beg him to take her back. The thought wa repulsive, if not self-infliction, and she hated being forced into such an act. But what option did she have? Koravelle was no more. There was no more Stolz to protect her from the world of ranks and the unjust system that was Ravensbrück. She had to find a home and safety for her pups, even if she ran away shortly afterward. She knew without a doubt that Phantom would gladly accept them into his reign. He was a pompous and self-conceited dominor, and bringing his offspring back into his limits of control would make him more than happy. There would be a price for her leaving in the first place. But if she ever wanted a life to her own, she had to accept the cards she'd been dealt.
Slinking a few steps into the territory, Sayang let loose a soft call, hoping not to draw too much attention to herself. She wasn't sure how large the pack had gotten or what type of wolves now called this dirt playground home. Frankly, she couldn't even begin to tell a damn thing about the pack from all the scents surrounding the border. All the wolves began to smell the same after a while. Disgusting mutts sometimes. Sayang quieted her discomfort and turned her brown eyes to the faint starry lights.
All she could do was pray that Eperna would twist fate in her favor by keeping her pups safe back in the makeshift den as she begged Phantom to accept them as pack worthy.
"Please, Eperna. Watch over Xanthos, Seerten, and Ashona. Be gentle with Phantom's judgment.."

How long now had she been noticing the scents? Since she'd been here? It had definitely been there for as long as she could remember. They were strong and masculine, one older than the other, yet the other wasn't exactly recent. They made her wonder if they were alphas from before her, and if so, what had happened to them? Had Einheit driven them from her boundaries, or had there been deeper, darker reasons? Sinead always found herself doing this, coming up with scenarios and situations in her head. Daydreaming. But what was the harm when there was nothing else to do? She had already scoured every inch, learning every nook and cranny, marking every spot. Well. Almost every spot. There was still one entrance that she hadn't secured. As it was, she was laying with her delicate paws dangling over the edge of the large, dusty wall that the dens were carved into. With a sigh, she heaved herself up and stretched, extending all four of her legs, one at a time. Then, after giving herself a good shake, she bounded down the slope and onto flat land. From there, she moved into a leisurely trot, taking her sweet time as she crossed the land. Her land.
She hadn't gotten very far when a noise reached her ears. Immediately she froze, ears perking forward, eyes twinkling. It was a howl for certain, calling, requesting...The sound was soft, with an edge of desperation to it. Her body suddenly started functioning again, her legs propelling her towards the unmarked entrance. She was now alert, her whole body screaming warnings as her strides ate the earth beneath her. She was practically flying, her ears flat against her skull as she sprinted. She had no idea what she would find once she reached the intruder. They hadn't sounded as if they were issuing a challenge, but she could never be too cautious. Wolves were deceptive these days, as bad as snakes wriggling around in tall grass. Almost no one could be trusted, and if they were, it was not earned easily. Trust was fragile. Her ocean colored eyes practically twinkled as they zoned in on something in the distance. The intruder was stark white from afar, but the closer she got, the more something began to bother her eyes. Was he, or she...spotted?
It dawned on Sinead quickly. This was no wolf, and her suspicions were confirmed when the scent hit her. Dog! She looked...exhausted. She was all thin frame and slick fur, flopped ears and slender little tail. And something about her just seemed...off. Something in those tired looking brown eyes. It looked like fear and...something else. But what did she have to be afraid of? Despite the haunted, pinched look on her face, she was...pretty. Unique. What had happened to make her look so solemn? What shadows chased her?
"Dog," she said, repeating her earlier thought. It wasn't said nastily, as some might. Instead, it was said with an air of curiousity. Her eyes narrowed with consideration as she sized the she-dog up again, this time as if looking at her from an unbiased point of view.
"And you look so tired. What brings you here?"

SAYANG Sayang didn't have to wait long for a response. Her call had echoed around not twice before a rustle was heard from ahead, crunching with the gravel dirt that made up almost all of Einheit. The wolf that appeared around the corner, however, was not the expected fur of pale beige and mixed yellow hues. It wasn't a strong, overpowering masculine scent that hit her nose as she breathed in a quiet relief at the unknown whereabouts of her previous master--at least for the moment. Phantom, in all his sneaky doings and previous shenanigans, could be anywhere. Cautiously, Sayang gave a quick once-over of her situation.
"Dog,"
The female's attention was forced back to the she-wolf before her. It seemed an obvious, and rather blank comment for the moment, with Sayang only shifting her weight uncomfortably in the presence of the wolf. At least it wasn't said in such a degrading manner as it usually was. Most used the term "dog" to only belittle the lowest sklavin; the fact that she was indeed a dog, didn't help her case much in that direction.
Her appearance had always been an exposed nerve for the younger female. Sayang was obviously nothing born of the strikingly wild Queen Nature, that much was certain. She knew that she was unnatural and, to some, an eye sore. Nothing good had ever come of her odd coloration and splotches. Instead of acknowledging the she-wolf's comment, she simply blinked in a small gesture of confirmation. It was the minimal requirement for the moment, and Sayang hadn't the ability to give much more in her state.
"And you look so tired. What brings you here?"
"I wanted to pledge my allegiance to Phantom. Could I speak with his highness?"
There would be no batting around the bush tonight. The sooner this was over with, the sooner she could (possibly) relax and figure out arrangements for the pups. Sayang studied the female as she spoke, keeping her voice respectful and her posture in the usual carriage of a defined sklavin. By the she-wolf's stance, she was obviously someone important in the pack. Maybe Phantom had finally found a she-wolf who didn't mind his brutal tactics and use of lessors. Then again, she certainly didn't seem like the type to love a wolf like Phantom. Hmph. Sayang tried to keep her mind quiet, telling herself that her dominor's affairs were of no importance to her. Besides, she reasoned, she was here to prove herself worthy of his blessing into the pack. She needed to stop questioning everything.
"I'm sure he'll remember me. My name is Sayang, miss."
It was with a half-hearted smile that Sayang attempted to insert a line of dry humor. Who could ever forget her, if only to remember her obnoxious spots?

The sun was high above their heads, but thankfully hidden behind a parade of clouds. Sinead knew that this land likely became ruthlessly hot at times, and imagined that she would spend a lot of time lolling in the spring, letting the cool water wash over her thick coat. She was more of a fan of the winter, not the summer, although autumn did tend to win her heart with the beautiful leaves and the crisp, cool whisper of winter approaching.
"I wanted to pledge my allegiance to Phantom. Could I speak with his highness?"
The dog's words violently shoved Sinead from her thoughts. She narrowed her eyes further, tilting her head to show that she didn't quite understand what she was saying. When the spotted animal went on to say that this Phantom character should remember her, Sinead began to shake her head back and forth as her mind worked. She'd never once met a wolf named Phantom. Perhaps this she-dog was lost, or mistaken. She opened her mouth to tell her so when suddenly a thought hit Sinead. The scents that she had smelled everywhere...maybe one of those had been Phantom, as they'd both definitely belonged to males...hm.
"I'm going to assume that a brute named Phantom once owned Einheit, correct? I haven't been in Ravensbruck for very long. I arrived here only weeks ago and only three days prior to today, I claimed Einheit as my own. The scents that I found here were stale and weakening. Whoever Phantom is, he's long gone, dear."
Well, hopefully that didn't disappoint her too much, but judging by the look on her face, Sinead wasn't sure that it was. It looked as if she had traveled a long way to find Einheit, and in turn, to find Phantom. Would she be glad to know he was gone? Either way, it wasn't much of Sinead's business. Despite this, she found herself curious about the nameless dog, which reminded her that she'd never gotten around to introducing herself.
"Name's Sinead," she began, glancing over to meet the she-dog's eyes. "What should I call you? I'm sure 'dog' would end up getting on your nerves after a while."
The last part was said with a small half-smile in the dog's direction. Maybe, Sinead thought, there was something she could do for her. In all fairness, she could have snapped and snarled, and chased her from her territory like some alphas might. She could have treated her with snippy words and snooty glances, but what good would that do? The poor dear had obviously come a long way, and not for nothing. She needed something, Sinead could see it in her expression, only because Sinead knew it so well herself.
Need tended to shine through your pelt like a beacon, after all.

SAYANG "I'm going to assume that a brute named Phantom once owned Einheit, correct? I haven't been in Ravensbruck for very long. I arrived here only weeks ago and only three days prior to today, I claimed Einheit as my own. The scents that I found here were stale and weakening. Whoever Phantom is, he's long gone, dear."
In that instant, Sayang's world shattered. Phantom gone? From what this dominor said, it would seem that the brutal Alpha of Einheit had left quite sometime again. Questions ripped and buzzed through the she-dog, her frame still stone-still at the news. She couldn't move, she couldn't think. All the torture and memories were fresh, reliving themselves. The relentless beatings, the meaningless runs around Einheit's border, the general lack of disrespect as a canine.
"Name's Sinead. What should I call you? I'm sure 'dog' would end up getting on your nerves after a while."
Sinead's voice snapped Sayang out of her thoughts quick, a crack of leaves in the woods of her mind. For once, she was speechless. Not simply because she was surprised or happy that Phantom was gone--this possibility had never occurred to her. The stability and strength that Phantom had possessed was legendary, and, in Sayang's eyes, was not a force that could have ever been reckoned. There had been only one loss she knew of. Vaguely, she remembered Phantom's return after a bad challenge with Kasimira, the Alpha female of Irrsin. He had come back in quite the sour mood, and with more blood on his coat than she'd seen on any wolf before. Either he put up one hell of a fight, or Kasimira was quite the she-wolf.
Tossing the thoughts of the old challenge away, Sayang glanced back at Sinead. Was she being truthful? Her eyes were calm enough, with no flickering or edgy glances that would indicate otherwise. If what the female said really was true, well. The possibilities were limitless. They could live in freedom now. No one knew of her sklavin history, no one would be there to enforce it. Sayang knew she would always feel hesitant around the authority of any other wolf, but there was no reason for her pups to have those same ties and emotions in regards to rank.
Sayang's brown eyes caught Sinead's deep blue and immediately realized she'd completely blown off the she-wolf's question. Blushing underneath the white and black fur, Sayang stammered out a response, her posture hunching slightly downward in a silent apology.
"My name is Sayang, miss."
She'd almost forgotten this female was the newly appointed Alpha now. And technically, she was trespassing.
"Phantom was my old dominor."
Before she could stop herself, Sayang blurted out her relation to Phantom. Immediately, she cursed herself inwardly. She could have said she was a freior looking for a pack, she could have blended in.. Psh. Who was she kidding? She probably already knew she was a sklavin, just by her temperament so far.
"Would you take me in your pack?"
The words were out before she could think twice about what she was asking the female. What is with me today? She was never this outspoken, this talkative. Maybe it was the situation or the craziness of it all; either way, Sayang wasn't sure how to approach the new Einheit Alpha.
And yet, the more she considered her position, the more a panic set in. What if she decided she didn't want her in the pack? What if she took her back to the Auktion Rock? What would become of her pups? Anxiety building in her chest, Sayang flattened her already floppy Dalmatian ears as she spoke.
"Just don't take me back to the Auktion Rock. Please. I can't go back there."

The silence that followed the new alpha's words was long, broken only by the distant cackle of what sounded like a crow. Sinead had seen the scavengers several times since the land had become hers, and often she had watched them simply to see the way their inky black feathers cast rainbows across their bodies in the right light. She had spotted vultures as well, their long necks bent over the carcass of a scrawny rabbit that she had long ago finished picking at. Absently she flicked her ears, blue eyes still focused intently on the dogs face. The spotted female hadn't answered her yet, but Sinead was patient. Shock was clear on the she-dog's face, plain as day. It was obvious that she'd expected to find whoever this Phantom character was, and it was also obvious that his absence was quite the large surprise. Subconsciously, her lips pulled up, forming an inquisitive yet slightly puzzled smile.
It was as if someone had thrown water on the she-dog with the way her body suddenly bent into a submissive stance, her eyes apologizing for her silence. "My name is Sayang, miss. Phantom was my old dominor." Well, it hadn't exactly been a secret that she was a sklavin, but now it was confirmed. For a moment Sinead was quiet, committing the dog's name to her memory. Sayang. Pretty name, she thought.
"It's nice to finally know your name," Sinead replied, a gentle smile finding its way to her muzzle. It was curious how things had worked out, with this unique character wandering into Einheit, already familiar with the land. Sinead was puzzling over whether she should find it comical or suspicious when Sayang suddenly burst with words.
"Would you take me in your pack? Just don't take me back to the Auktion Rock. Please. I can't go back there."
Unashamedly surprised, Sinead tilted her head at Sayang, more confused than ever by the fear she found in the she-dog's eyes. Sayang was an unclaimed sklavin in Sinead's territory, but the worry that radiated from the dog seemed to be deeper than just that. Slowly, Sinead sat back on her haunches. She had many options, some that she would never even consider, like attacking Sayang. She could always haul her to Auktion Rock, but doing so after she had practically begged Sinead not to would have seemed downright cruel. That left her with either sending the she-dog on her way, or opening Einheit to her as her home. The idea of turning Sayang away instead of allowing her to increase Einheit's population seemed silly. The larger her pack became, the better, after all.
"Don't give yourself a heart attack, I'm not taking you back there," Sinead assured her. Quickly she thought over how to proceed, her ears twitching atop her head. "Tell me, how well do you know Einheit? Surely you realize there's scarcely anything here, besides the stream and the fish in it? A hare or two, sure. Sometimes a deer. But I think I'm telling you something you already know. I'll take you in." Sinead stood, taking a moment to shake dust from her pelt before peering closely at Sayang. "And since you likely already know everything I'd normally tell you at this point, like where the dens are and about the stream, I'll ask you a question instead. Will you tell me what happened with you and the previous Einheit alpha?"
