Betrayal and abandonment. Just as he was beginning to settle with a new pack, actually for once...maybe even enjoying himself, he was cast away. Unwanted, unloved, useless. Way to go ego boost. Such is life he supposed, and he hardened his heart little by little against the pain. He would not trust again so easily as he had then allowed himself to fall into the faith of a pack. He was a slave, there was little use in desiring anything better, but he did. He wanted to see the better outcome of all of this. Otherwise, what was the point? He may as well back talk and challenge, just one good bite on a Dominor would earn him a swift and final end. What kind of life was there to have to be under the paw of another's rule for all one's life? Better to not choose his own form of death, rather than be starved again as punishment for some crime or another, right?
Still, something in him knew, to throw it all to the wind now would be a waste. A misspent oppurtunity, and that wasn't the answer at all. Be that as it may, he would never be the same. He was done with grovelling and snivelling, he was not so cowed after all, despite having been born to this life. He was not a wild, once free, now chained wolf, he'd known this all along. He was unaware that slaves could be freed. He just wanted to live. Was that too much to ask for? He was a strong woman. A man's man. He was fully aware of his body and what it designated him toward, but he didn't care about that.
So there Kaff was, contemplating the meaning of life just as any youth in the throws of angst is wont to do. Laying on his side, paws stretched out comfortably before him, lieing ever so still as to maybe even appear dead. The cowards around him whining and complaining, moaning and begroaning their predicaments, some reminiscing their lost freedom, others licking old and fresh wounds alike. He was together with a group of captives, surrounded by large boulders and a few sentries, and beyond that, the dizzying heights of the encompassing cliffs which comprised the domain and made them all prisoners of stone. Each of them awaiting new masters, but Kaff...just awaiting the night to come. It was hot for just being spring, not that he wasn't used to a good warm day, but with no shade and no water for a few days, it was getting a little tiresome. Waiting his turn for the auction block had been a long few days already.
He was beginning to wonder if they thought him dead, then that trail of thought led him to wonder if they moved the dead out of this rank prison into a ditch or something, could he escape that way? But that led to considering they would surely make sure first, and that led him to heave a great sigh and lift his head to look around if only to show he was still here. Finally, his name was called. Kaff managed with a great effort to find his feet, and allowed himself to be led forth to the display rock. His few endearing qualities were listed off, mostly about his physical fitness, his obvious trend towards speed, his slightly less obvious strength. Good teeth, a hardy breed fit for travel they said. Kaff lifted his head at the end of the speech, peering out over the disinterested, depressingly few suitors. If he wasn't sold to someone, he'd just go back to the 'cage' to wait another turn, and that did not interest him at all. He tried to catch the eye of anyone he could, if even just to give them a look of, give me a chance. It wasn't pleading. His brief gaze simply held anothers for a moment, trying to tell them psychically he was worth it. He wasn't one for calling out and drawing any undue attention to himself, this was the best he could do to single himself something different from the crowd.
