T O R T U G A
I've never been complacent
Durkell was very, very quiet.
It had been quite some time before Tortuga had wandered here and met Hayashi; in fact, it seemed like ages ago. He was here for the same reason now, but perhaps on less amiable terms...depending on how their little talk went, of course. But if he'd been expecting an army of wolves to meet him at the borders, he was dead wrong. In fact, no one met him at all. It seemed very much like Durkell hadn't recovered well from the fire, which was unfortunate...but not exactly surprising. Not many packs had.
The grass had grown tall again, although not quite as tall as it had been during his last visit. It swayed where he walked, gently caressing the fur of his legs. Most of the forest seemed untouched, or perhaps it had grown back more quickly than Tortuga thought. Either way, the ivory male made a straight path through the forest. He wasn't sure where Hayashi might be, and he couldn't exactly go wandering around the land looking for her…but for some reason, calling her seemed like a very bad idea. His spine crawled as he looked around, frowning. It was ridiculous for him to be paranoid, really, but with the recent struck of bad luck in Ravensbruck, it wasn't like anyone could blame him. Snuffling, Tortuga lowered his head until his nose brushed against the ground, inhaling deeply. He could definitely smell her, and faintly, the scent of a male. Her beta, perhaps? A sklavin or a pack member? He was unsure, but no other smells immediately leaped out at him.
Blinking his bright blue eyes, Tortuga continued through the woods. He’d traveled from Irrsin in the early hours of the morning with the intention of meeting with Hayashi. There had been rumors recently, rumors of “dominors” who were freeing sklavins, and slaves who were rebelling. Left and right, there were uprisings, all quickly squashed but certainly not helped by those pathetic excuses of masters who released the slaves they claimed. The thought of it brought a snarl to his face. He’d heard of an alpha named Nirco, who now hailed over Groavche with another brute at his side…and then there was Stolz, who’d been in Regnen for a while. Both openly opposed slavery, of course, so Tortuga hadn’t bothered to go to them. And then there was a female alpha in Einheit, but he’d already learned that she kept sklavins, so he hadn’t bothered with her. Kasimira likely wouldn’t have appreciated him sniffing after another female, anyways. Before he could help himself, memories of his night with Chalandra flickered through his head. Snorting softly, Tortuga forced his thoughts elsewhere. He hadn’t told Kasimira, and he didn’t intend to, but sometimes he couldn’t help thinking of the silvery vixen. She meant nothing to him, of course, yet she was undeniably attractive.
He’d heard of dominors in Norden and Suden, too, but very vaguely. In fact, Tortuga had heard so little of them that he was unsure if the lands were still claimed. Perhaps one day he would take a visit to see, but today…he had other affairs in mind. He had no idea where Hayashi stood on the issue, so he’d come to ask.
Sighing, Tortuga came to a slow halt, looking around. While he still felt odd about making too much noise in these seemingly deserted lands, there was no other surefire way to figure out where Hayashi was. So he tilted his head back and he howled, a long, searching sound filled with strength. When he lowered his head, the sound continued to echo through the trees, seemingly rattling Tortuga to his very core. Perhaps he shouldn’t have come alone…
No. Puffing his chest out, Tortuga stood up taller, dominance in his stance. I am an alpha, and I will not be afraid.
I can't afford to be
