KASIMIRA As afternoon's boisterous sun broke the sky, two wolves crested the rise of land just south of the border. The rain which had poured so heavily in the Auktion Rock's dismal ground was not to be found here, instead replaced by Eperna's sweltering heat. It was a blazing fever that gripped the land, and as the females trudged their way towards Irrsin it became apparent that the weather would not calm until the beginnings of dusk began to settle on the land.
Still, the duet marched on; a black pelt led the way and a scraggly grey and red mixed female followed her every movement. The females neared the border and Kasimira gave it a speculative sniff, only moving forward over the invisible line once she had left her own marker. It was with great strides that she moved forward with from there on out; it seemed that reaching her own land had refreshed her highness and given her a new sense of pride. The sooty female turned to bark at Calliope; she felt her new sklavin had been slacking, and whether she actually had been or not was of no concern to Kasimira. Fear was her best motivator for the time being.
The Alpha suddenly became quiet and thoughtful for a moment before speaking, her head tilted at her slave in consideration. What should she have her do first? It was after mid-day and she had had nothing to eat; privately she doubted whether Calliope had been fed at all during her stay at the Auktion Rock. Kasimira surveyed the meadow that unfolded before her while she waited for Calliope to catch up. Maybe they would settle themselves under a tree while they waited to catch their breaths and refresh themselves. Then the real trials would begin.
Kasimira swiftly motioned with her muzzle as she had at the Auktion Rock for her slave to follow. This time, she hoped Calliope was a bit more attentive; patience was not the she-wolf's best trait and she would be quick to show her temper if allotted a good enough reason. With that, the ashy she-wolf trotted on, pillars pumping as they ran through the meadow, slowing ever so slightly as she neared a leafy oak. She circled a few times, kneading her blackened paws into the soft grasses before laying down daintily. Her hind legs were tucked under her and her tail swept gently around her. The queen was ready to address her subject.
"Calliope. Welcome to Irrsin."
Silence enveloped her speech as her crystal blue eyes rounded on the terrain. It was moderately sized, well stocked with prey, and the rumbling of the Känzeln Falls could be heard not far off which, as Kasimira saw it, added a certain something to the lands. After a brief review of her surroundings, Kasmira turned her bright eyes back on Calliope.
"You are a slave in these lands--for now. If you can prove yourself worthy of a higher title, and I feel it would be in my best interests to free you, I will grant you with your freedom."
Seconds passed into minutes as Kasimira sat, observing with interest as the words slowly sank in. It would surely come as a surprise to her; slaves were not freed often. Kasimira flicked a mosquito from her black audits before continuing. Pesky creatures.
"Of course, before we even begin speaking terms like 'freedom', we need to establish my rules."
A sly smile wired it's way onto the black vixen's face, playing with her ivories as she showed her gleaming white fangs to Calliope.
"You obey every command I make. My word is law. I do not tolerate rebuttal from my inferiors. You treat me with the utmost respect; less than such and you will be punished severely. When we are in the presence of other packs you are strong, vicious, aggressive. We will not present a weak front to the other Alphas."
At this Kasimira bared her teeth, and with a snarl she leaned into Calliope's face, their noses inches from each other.
"Understood? I will not be made to look weak in front of others."
Kasimira lingered in Calliope's space, staring straight into her eyes. Blue reflected into amber. It was a test of dominance and the queen expected to win. Surely the drab female would submit. It had appeared to her that Calliope was weaker than she had first anticipated, even for the lowly ranked wolf that she was. I will not accept an disobedient slave...
Kasimira's reign had begun.

Calliope The change was gradual at first, preventing Calliope from noticing it until she was walking on dry ground. The rain had slowed to a drizzle as she traveled, then to a misting so light she couldn't feel it anymore. Now she had escaped the clouds and was basking in the drying warmth of the sun. Calliope sighed with happiness. The new scenery signified the end of the horrors of the Rock. Everything would go back to normal now, just as it was before.
A strong smell filled Calliope's nose and she realized that Kasmira had stopped to mark the border. Cal's heart sank as she remembered that nothing would ever be the same again. She was shackled in the bonds of slavery, and very few wolves ever escaped those bonds. She highly doubted her new mistress was a kind-hearted dominor. The commanding bark Kasmira used to add speed to Calliope's limbs only reinforced that image. When the Alphaess settled her dark body in the grass, Calliope chose to sit, feeling that she should ready to move at the whims of her mistress.
"Calliope. Welcome to Irrsin."
Irrsin. Calliope let the name echo in her mind. She tried it out in her thoughts. My home, Irrsin. No, it didn't feel right, sound right. Home was where Thalia spoke to her in a calming tone and slept next to her in the den at night. Home was where they giggled about the way their brother strutted about when there was no one to see. Home was where her pups--Calliope stopped the thought before it could finish forming. She had promised herself she would not dwell on it. If her mind was allowed to wander there she would crumble, fall to pieces at the feet of the femme who now controlled her life.
All this turmoil took but a few seconds, and by then Kasmira had begun to speak again. This time her words made Calliope's ears twitch. A chance at freedom, however small, was more than she could have hoped for. But as always with such things, it was too good to be true. Kasmira soon showed her that the amount of strings attached to this chance were like a spider's web--sticky tendrils designed to trap her at the slightest touch. Calliope began to lament her fate again, but suddenly Kasmira's blue eyes were staring into Calliope's own amber orbs.
"I will not be made to look weak in front of others."
Kasmira spoke with poison in her tone. With each word she seemed to grow taller and more menacing. Under her glare Calliope lowered herself to the ground, diverting her eyes and rolling onto her back. Her neck lied stretched out, vulnerable to the other wolf. It was the ultimate sign of submission. Calliope knew Kasmira would be satisfied by nothing else.
"I understand, Lady Kasmira. I can obey."

KASIMIRA Just as I expected. Kasimira's dominance had designed just the response she had been dying for. Calliope had been quick to fall onto her back, eyes averted as if she had been stung. That movement of submission alone made the she-wolf tingle with pleasure. And on top of it all the little rat had offered her scrawny little neck. Picture perfect. The cherry on top was the whispered voice that slunk off of Calliope's tongue, with barely a sound made. Kasimira was, none the less, elated as she devoured the words her broken slave spoke. Her pitch-black audits had been pricked with uncontrollable eagerness, paws kneading the ground in waiting.
"I understand, Lady Kasimira. I can obey."
It was a simple response, but the feeling of it flooded through Kasimira. The she-wolf slid her body back to her previous resting spot, tail fluffed and paws laid neatly in front of her. To an outsider she would have been the perfect picture of a well-bred show dog. All would be mistaken with such a preposterous claim, but her fur gleamed velvety soft in the filtered sunlight, her blue eyes captivating as they once again took to scrutinizing the wolf before her. Kasimira simply yawned, her jaws stretched wide as the day's heat rolled over the land.
To be fair, Kasimira had not given Calliope the justice she deserved--but then again, the queen did not spread complements as she so frequently did her venom-infused words. The female she had decided upon was thin, possibly gaunt if one looked hard enough, but she was not, as one would say "hopeless". Sure, she was lanky and rather bony, but that could all be fixed with daily morsels of food and the treatment that every wolf needed to be strong. But Kasimira had seen something else in her;a spark that would, Eperna joyful, come out of hiding as the two she-wolves grew used to each others habits and company. Maybe it had been her amber eyes; for although they danced and flickered back and forth as a piece of prey does when nearing death's door, they also flashed in reverence to another spirit. The ebony vixen cast one last glance at Calliope before speaking, peering at those gold tinted hues once more, intrigued, if only for a brief moment, by what she saw within.
"I'm sure you'll work your hardest to please me."
You know my expectations now... It was a silent reminder, but the Alpha's cold, accusing eyes did all the talking that was needed. The sun's heat flooded over the she-wolf once again, more powerful and heated than it had been only minutes ago. The warmth was soothing, relaxing, and Kasimira's eyes fluttered a few heartbeats, her need for sleep overriding other obligations. Maybe just a few minutes would do both of them good... With a large yawn the she-wolf's demeanor changed slighty, a hint of softness hidden within her command.
"Sleep for a moment; you'll need your rest."
The queen wasn't even awake to see if Calliope followed her order; her eyes had gently closed and her breathing steadied itself as the sun's heat wore on.
--
As the sun began to sink lower into the afternoon, Kasimira's dreams twisted. Before her laid a breath taking landscape of jagged mountain peaks and pale meadow grasses; two bubbling streams met on the western plain and rippled down towards her, their cackling waters cascading over rocks and rolling smoothly over the landscape. Yet suddenly Kasimira was in the surf of the mild creek; it somehow had transformed into an angry, rumbling river, threatening to sweep her away into it's murky depths. Her blackened coat clung to the heavy drag of the water that tugged on her fur, tossing her this way, that way, and back again. She was caught, stuck in the mighty force of Iudex's waves and white foam caps that surged over her; it swept over her face, choking her as the taste of it burned her fragile mouth and nose with a sting of strong salt and sea spray.
The weight and force lifted. Kasimira flinched heavily as she woke from her nightmare, her gaze fuzzy and eyes struggling to focus the world before her into some type of image. The she-wolf paused, tasting her lips for the taste of salt and spray. Nothing. There were no waves that gushed over her or sucked her into darkness. It was all gone, soon becoming long forgotten memory. The coal colored vixen shook her head impatiently as she attempted to clear her mind completely of the vision. It was distant, but still within grasping length. Kasimira blinked as she turned her gaze on Calliope, her mind buzzing. How long had they been asleep? By the looks of things it had been longer than expected; the rays of the dying sun were streaking across the sky, reds mixing into vivid maroons as the day came to a close. Kasimira titled her head, repeating the question aloud.
"How long have we, or I, been asleep?"

Calliope The immense joy that radiated off of Kasimira was frightening. Gleeful in her dominance, the fae hovered over Calliope like the slave was fallen prey. Calliope's breathing became quick and shallow, her heart beating hard against her rib cage. When she had offered her neck, Calliope was sure her mistress would not harm it. But now Calliope worried that she harbored a perverse blood lust in addition to her need for dominance. However, Calliope saw the wildness in Kasimira's eyes die as she abruptly lowered herself to the ground again. In a flash, Calliope saw her mistress fall back into her demanding coldness.
The sun broke the clouds and blazed down on the baked land. Even Kasimira's coldness could not withstand the heat of a summer afternoon. The golden rays seemed to tranquilize her, allowing Calliope to return to a sitting position. She watched the other female nervously, embarrassed to see this moment of vulnerability in her harsh mistress. The sun somehow even softened Kasimira's orders.
"Sleep for a moment; you'll need your rest."
Calliope, caught off guard, remained still. It felt like a strange order for a dominor to give. Kasimira's breathing had already slowed, and there was a hint of a snore as she inhaled. A sudden thought entered Calliope's mind--with her mistress asleep and no other wolves around, who was to stop her from leaving? The border of Irrsin wasn't far; if Calliope could make it to the Falls she could wade in the water and hide her scent. She could be free! If she evaded capture, she could even go back!
Back? a mocking voice snarled in her head. Back to the mate who replaced you and the pups who won't recognize you, or back to the parents who forced you to leave?
Calliope jerked as if she had been dealt a blow. No, escape would only lead to a lonely existence, with the added stress of fearing recapture. Kasimira wouldn't care about one silly slave, but such an escape would be an insult to her. Calliope would be willing to bet her life that Kasimira was the type of wolf who harbored grudges. Calliope shook herself, trying to fling away all thoughts of freedom. It was no use wasting time thinking about something that would never happen. The sun was starting to work it's magic on her as well, and Calliope felt her tense body relax in the warming rays. Despite her doubts and fears about her mistress' command, Calliope found herself sprawled out in the grass, the long blades shading her eyes. The last thing she saw before sleep came was a strip of brilliantly blue sky.
~~~~~~~
Calliope drifted awake to the sound of birds. She smiled drowsily at their loud chirping, the different tones blending together into a cacophonous symphony. A small alarm went off in her brain at this. Her sleepy mind struggled to deduce the reason for it. Opening her eyes, Calliope found herself staring up at the sky and instantly knew what was wrong. The birds were in the midst of their evening chatter, getting ready to settle in for the night. The sky was tinted with oranges and reds, fading into a dark blue in the east. Calliope hadn't meant to sleep for so long, an hour at most had been her goal. Sitting up, Cal tried to shake her groggy mind back awake.
"How long have we, or I, been asleep?"
The slave froze. It had been such a peaceful rest that she had almost forgotten the other wolf. Turning, she looked up at the sky instead of Kasimira, trying to remember where the sun had been before she fell asleep.
"Perhaps five hours, lady, or six. It will be dark soon."
Calliope shivered as she thought of the horrid nights she had spent at the Rock. There she had dared not let herself sleep for long. A sleeping wolf was a defenseless wolf. She wondered what Irrsin would be like. Personally, she preferred to sleep in a den, with only an easily defended entrance to worry about. But Irrsin, with its wide open plains, might offer only trees for shelter.
"With night coming, we should--that is, we might want to. . ." Calliope finally decided to go for the subtlest attempt to draw Kasimira's mind toward shelter. "Is the camp far?"
KASIMIRA "Perhaps five hours, lady, or six. It will be dark soon."
Kasimira's jaws opened in a wide yawn as she shook her coat roughly to clear the debris that had gathered in her tossing sleep. The she-wolf said nothing in response to Calliope's estimation of the time, but a small part of her snarled on the inside. She didn't need a mutt like this telling her when it was going to be dark. The hour would have sufficed alone. Quick responses were the ones she liked, unless she was looking for an explination. Nonetheless, the afternoon nap had put the black wolf in a better mood than when she had fallen alseep and she didn't press her slave for the time being.
"With night coming, we should--that is, we might want to. . ."
Kasimira's blue eyes turned on Calliope as she spoke, watching her as she struggled and groped for the correct words. She said nothing, watching her as she stuttered, a small laugh playing off her lips.
"Is the camp far?"
"No, it is not, sklavin. But first, I would like you to catch me some dinner."
Her first real task. Kasimira knew nothing of Calliope's hunting skills and she figured there was any time like the present. Plus, she was still slightly tired and didn't quite feel up to hunting. This is what slaves were for anyways, right? The she-wolf flicked her ears for Calliope to begin, turning away to sit under the large oak. There wasn't any need for the shelter of the tree as of right now, but dark storm clouds were rolling towards the land and Kasimira laid down underneath, her head licking her paws like a cat.
As her tongue ran rhymically over her fur, Kasimira's thoughts wandered. Where would Calliope sleep? Sure, she knew there were a few caves off to the side of the waterfall, but she hadn't the time to search them all. With the time she did have, Kasimira had picked the most center den for herself, scraping out a few pieces of grass and other plants before she had set off to the Auktion Rock. The other four dens were as of yet unexplored. Calliope could sleep in one of those, sure, but how to keep an eye on her in case she fled the lands? She didn't really want the sklavin to sleep in her new den, but it almost seemed she had no other option. I'll deal with that when I have to.
As the she-wolf glanced around the lands, it occured to her that hunting might only come in the form of a juciy rabbit or squirrel; nothing like a caribou or large deer that she had seen in her previous home. Maybe on occasion they would see a small deer or so, but that would require more than one, lanky wolf to bring it down. The Alpha would have to settle for a smaller meal tonight.
Kasimira cast her gaze back upon Calliope, growling at her to get going. She wasn't going to wait all night for her dinner, that was for sure. The ebony she-wolf pulled half her body up off the ground, threatning herslave with mere size and brute strenght. If she didn't get moving soon, she was going to show her what it felt like to be the prey.
"Don't keep your Alpha waiting, Calliope."
ooc- ehh, okay but jumping around. hope you don't mind. :)
Calliope Oh Eperna, why?
Calliope knew she had already pushed one of Kasimira's buttons. Maybe it was because she asked about the camp, or maybe because she talked at all. It could be that slaves should not speak unless spoken to. But hunting? That was no way for her to earn her mistress' favor. Calliope barely knew where to begin. In the forests she was used to, she would wait in the undergrowth until something crossed her path. It took her twice as long to catch food than other wolves, but she was usually successful. Here in the open meadows she was completely lost.
When Kasimira turned her back, Calliope began to frantically search the area. She spotted a clump of trees several yards away, where a squirrel was likely to be foraging for food. However, she also saw an area with low bushes that could be hiding a rabbit burrow. She knew this from experience, as she had often hidden from her older brother in such bushes as a pup. She smiled as she remembered how he would huff and whine as he tried to get his fat, round body through the small spaces left by the branches. She had to suppress a bit of laughter as she remembered the time she had startled a rabbit out of its burrow, and it had run straight into her brother as it tried to escape. Myris stopped trying to follow her into the bushed after that.
"Don't keep your Alpha waiting, Calliope."
The gaunt femme jumped. There was no time to make a decision, so she simply started running over to the bushes. Before she arrived, Calliope stopped to formulate a strategy. Even small and thin as she was, she couldn't force her way through the branches. Trying to scare any prey that might be hiding there would be the best option. Unfortunately, in most hunts she had a partner who would ambush the prey as it ran. Calliope wasn't sure she could keep up with any fleet-footed prey.
Treading lightly, she circled around the brush. Barking loudly, she began to dig at the small rise in the ground behind the bushes. Something rustled inside and she saw a small brown head pop out of the ground. As the rest of the animal emerged, Calliope realized it was either slow or stupid, as it didn't immediately take off running. Instinct took over and she pounced, grabbing the prey in her jaws and shaking it until she felt it go limp. Dropping the dead creature on the ground, she saw it was some kind of rodent, one she had never encountered before. Still, prey was prey, and she didn't want to incur the wrath of Kasimira.
The slave trotted back to the oak quickly, already feeling her mouth begin to salivate. She laid the rodent at Kasimira's feet and stepped back, knowing she must hunt again if she wished to eat. First, though, she waiting to see what her mistress would make of the strange animal.
ooc- we can safely assume from here on out that Kasimira accepted the food and they took shelter in the caves for the night, Kasimira grudgingly. :3 Archived.
