"Next!"
The order fell onto a young she-wolf who was painfully aware of where she had ended up. Nearly her whole life she had been told to avoid this place, and here she was, walking up the path to being auctioned off. Avery sighed as she took a few more paw steps, trying to balk as she realized her turn was next. Gulping she watched as the wolf who had been in front of her was being forced to trot around, and wolves called from the walls wanting to either claim it or poke fun. She couldn't tell.
This whole ordeal is actually quite silly. It really shouldn't be occurring, yet here it is occurring and such. How odd... The gods have obviously cast the bones for my future.
It had been two weeks since herself, and her younger sister had been brought here by their father. The young wolf's life had actually been easy until the brute had shown up, bringing chaos and hardship for their mother. He had caused fight after fight, with not only Avery, but her older sister Rue as well. His patience hadn't lasted long, and sure enough her father had snapped just like before. Avery winced at the memory of the long battle Rue and him had gone through; snarls, teeth and blood had clashed for what seemed like eons, but had only been a few heart beats. The ending had been her sister being driven off.
Then myself and Violet wind up here. The last place on earth I want to be. Speaking of Violet, I hope she's alright.
Avery knew that her younger sister, Violet had already been claimed. I just hope they are kind to her. She's an innocent soul.
"Next!" Ordered the guard once more, and she felt herself being pushed onto the rock. Blinking her blue eyes she looked around, but couldn't see much except blinding sunlight and high rock walls. The announcer cleared his throat, a sound of pity ringing in his words, "Young, medium build, lovely coat, black base with astonishing mixtures of red, white and orange. and interesting eyes.. Otherwise then that? Not much to look at folks. Ugly really. Who wants her?"
The words stung Avery as she sat in the middle of the rock. Her bright blue eyes showing her pain. Ugly he had called her. The one word that could cause her confidence and self esteem to come crashing down. She looked down at her paws, not wanting to be there.
"Can we see her move?" Called a wolf from above, and shortly after a guard jammed his paw into her ribs. Owl's eyes focused on his, growing cold when he did it again. On the third try her lips drew back into a snarl, daring him to try once more. Violet was the soft one, while Rue was the wild one. Owl was somewhere in the middle. Lifting her head she waited for someone to claim her.
