Pure and utter, undisturbed silence. That was how she liked the nights. That was how she liked her life to be in general. The sun had just sets, the last remnants of deep blues and purples fading away into the encroaching black which was the undisturbed view of space. She knew not was space was, just knew that the Gods lived somewhere in the sky. Even the waterfall seemed silent at night, the water rushing down over the rocks and into the pool below, ripples dancing on the surface of crystal clear liquid. Nothing could spoil the moment in her eyes. In comparison to the vast surroundings she was situated in, she was tiny. A small wolf in a big world. Then again, she had always been in the big world from day one, alone and surviving of whatever she could find and kill. Life didn’t bother her, but it bothered others. How could she not be in the safety and security of a pack? Easily. She hated company with a burning passion, an idea instilled at birth most likely. Having no parents around could easily mess with your concepts of socializing.
Small paws carried her closer to the water, the stars shining on the surface of the water, illuminating the area somewhat. It didn’t matter anyway, her eyesight was designed for night-time, and she could see perfectly. As she stopped at the edge, pointed muzzle lowered, tongue darting out from between black lips to taste the pure liquid. It quenched her thirst within seconds, and her rear fell onto the pebbles and dirt, head rising to the sky, just watching life. That was how she liked to spend her time when she wasn’t hunting or hiding from other nocturnal wolves. Her umber eyes scanned the sky, lazily watching a faded cloud float overhead. Perfection.
‘Oh, sky of black and stars of white. What do the Gods see tonight? Do they watch us sleep, and whilst awake as well? I wish that they would send a sign, and just to me do tell…Of all the wonders that they view, from night to day and so…Oh Gods above hear me now, and watch on me below.’
She hummed along to a rhyme she had heard someone mumble a few moons back, which had been stuck in her head since then. It was very lyrical and she admired the words sung. In no way did she have the upmost faith, but it was nice to believe in something beyond her dull existence. Rounded ears twitched as rustling came from grass the other side of the pool. A hare darted out into the trees, most likely returning home to rest. Yawning lazily, the wolf stretched out her legs, turning to the side of the water as so not to get wet. As she lowered, she wriggled to get comfortable on the pebbles. Food had already been consumed, and her belly was full, so all she had now was some alone time.
