Sphuul Echo's touch was strangely reassuring to Sphuul, although he had not known her name five minutes ago. Actually, five minutes ago, they had been frozen in fear of each other. Things have certainly changed.. He mused softly. Sphuul gave a soft rumble of comfort as the fae licked his chest, attempting to make him feel better. And he did. She knew more about him than anyone in this world, although she was a mere stranger. Their pasts tied them together in a way he didn't quite understand. What will come of this meeting?
The words she uttered shocked Sphuul into near silence. She was a sklavin? Why? How? His eyes went to hers for the answer, and neither said a word. Echo was the first to look away, looking slightly embarassed. He frowned, then, continuing to watch her. There was much to her Sphuul didn't know, and he vaguely wondered how much he would know about her when their meeting was over. And how long would that be? Would they depart soon, or will they remain here, talking and sharing stories that broke each others hearts? Did she even want to be here with him? Echo was probably afraid of leaving, scared that if she turned her back he would attack her. The thought filled him with guilt and he looked away, watching the swelling waves for a few moments.
The pretty, delicate Echo's reaction to his last words scared him nearly out of his wits. She growled, spitting the words harshy at him, sharp even through the stutter. He cringed, snapping his eyes shut as she continued to slap him with her words. It was unexpected, coming from her so quickly, like this, for no reason beknownst to him. He was able to just get past her tone to the meaning of her words, and Sphuul opened his eyes, looking at her carefully. Her face had softened, and tears were pooling in those crystal eyes. She had reacted strongly by talking about his life. What did his life mean to her? He meant nothing to her, and she had thrown a tumult of fiery words at him, when he had explained he was not supposed to be alive. Sphuul's eyes widened a bit, a curious glint taking over his features. Why did she care? "Ah, Echo, I guess.. you're right. I'm.. sorry." He scooted closer to her, pressing his nose softly against her neck. Sphuul had no idea how to comfort another being, and he was quite out of his league on this one.

His throat rumbled beneath her tongue and a smile danced across her features. So it had worked, he was feeling better now. Both there tales had such sorrow in them, it just broke her heart. But to find some else in this world with a past as bad as her... it was something she didn't want to find. While it was nice having someone to talk to about it, she would not wish that kind of pain of anyone. Both her and Sphuul's pasts would haunt them forever, and it hindered there every move. Every dream, every wolf met, that past was carried with them. They could never forget it, so how could they ease this pain? They had to move on from it, accept it. Echo knew that it would be some time before she accepted her past, but it was a work in progress. Did he know that? Looking at him now, she wondered if he did. How did he cope with his fears? She already knew that he was terrified of other wolves, much like she was. Just another thing they had in common.
His eyes flashed over to her, a question ringing in them. Did he not know about these lands? About the hierarchy of wolves here? "I w-was br-bro-oken, a-and a wo-wolf f-f-found m-me and b-br-ougt m-me t-t-o b-b-be so-old as a s-s-slav-ave. D-do y-you n-n-not kn-now of th-the-ese l-lands?" she asked, searching his face for the answer there. He didn't look at if he knew anything, he actually looked rather shell shocked. They met each others eyes for a long time, questions flicking past each set of eyes. What was he thinking about to hard? Was it her? Was it their meeting in the moonlight? It had been completely by mistake, he had almost rammed right into her. A faint smile danced across her lips at that thought. Oh how their emotions had changed. Realizing that they were basically staring into each others eyes, hers flickered to the side, gazing a the white sand beneath her paws. If she wiggled them slightly, she could still feel the warmth of the grains that had been baked by the sun. Echo chanced a glance up, and saw that he was looking a the ocean. His head towered above her, and with a smile she rested her head on his massive chest.
Then those words were spoken, and things changed again. The little air between them grew heated with her anger, and she felt the brute flinch. Guilt shot through her veins, that was not her intention. His eyes closed as she spoke, and when she was done, the mood changed once more. Her eyes were filled with tears and she blinked them back, not allowing them to fall. She saw the look in his eyes, and knew that he was wondering why she cared. With a sniffle she looked at her paws, then cast her blue gaze on him. "I w-wat-ched as th-th-hree liv-ves w-were tak-ken aw-away w-w-ith-thout a ch-chan-nce to ev-v-ven liv-ve th-them. I w-was alm-most k-k-k-illed. Y-you we-ere t-t-t-o. W-we ca-cannot w-w-w-was-ste out liv-ves Sp-sphu-uul, w-we j-just c-c-can't. I d-d-do c-c-care, y-y-you k-know," she said, licking his cheek as he pressed his nose against her neck. She rotated her neck then, sore from holding it up for so long. She brought it back down, snuggling into the fur of the great brute. "D-d-don't w-w-was-ste th-the li-f-fe y-y-you w-w-were g-g-giv-ven a sec-c-cond ch-chan-nce to liv-v-ve."

Sphuul He had truly begun to relax in the embrace of this female. Never before had he been so close to a wolf he was not related to without sharp teeth ripping through his flesh. It felt nice, better than he had ever expected it to feel. The calming sound and smell of the beach only added to his calm, and he felt peace for the first time in his life.
As she spoke once more, he shook his head softly. "No.. I have not been here long. I did not know.. there were slaves." He frowned softly, looking at Echo, sadness claiming his heart once more. The thought of this sweet little female being beaten and broken, dragged away to be put under slavery, made his soul hurt for her. "That's a horrible thing to be, Echo." He looked her over once more. She didn't seem beaten or bruised, didn't seem like she had been abused. Maybe the Fates had been kind to her and blessed her with a kind master.
The Fates were not kind enough to give her freedom. They had not been kind to either of them, but they had made this female suffer more than any other he had encountered before. There was a lot of weight on her little shoulders, too much, it seemed, for her to bear. But she did it with vigor, seeming to revel in her second chance. The past chained both of them down, but she was closer to breaking free than he was. He had not struggled with his being bound. Was it time to do so? How could he? His past was untangible. How could he touch it, make it less of a burden? It was an onerous task, one he did not know how to fulfill. The strength of Echo continued to amaze him. No other wolf would take this amount of damage and still be standing as tall as she did. Well, figuratively. She was tiny.
As she spoke once more, Sphuul felt the sting of tears in his eyes. Echo had lost her young, something so near and dear to her that she had been broken nearly beyond repair. And here he was, whining about some failed love. How pitiful he was. Echo licked his cheek, and his eyes widened. She cared? They didn't know each other, and yet she cared for his feelings. He gave a shocked blink before he responded to her, pressing his nose on her cheek softly, his tongue escaping his maw to give her an identical lick. He pulled back, watching her carefully. "The past is a dangerous thing to dwell on, and I'm.. afraid we've dwelled too long to come back." He frowned slightly, unable to get his thoughts into words. "I am very sorry for your loss, and if I could change the past for you, I would." He gave her a soft smile then. "Thank you, Echo. I care as well, even though some..times I can't show.. it." Sphuul shut his mouth after uttering those words, before he come off as an imbecile. His head lowered to gaze at Echo's, watching as the emotions played across her face. He was intrigued by her, finding it impossible to not wonder about her, about her everything.

She nodded her head, she had thought as much. So he didn't know that these lands had Sklavin. She watched the emotions play across his face, a deep frown tugging at his lips. "It's n-n-n-ot th-th-hat bad-d. M-m-my m-ma-aster is-s a k-k-kind one. I k-k-know th-th-hat its n-n-not the b-b-es-st r-r-ank, b-b-but its all I h-have," She pressed closer to the male, a chill racking her body. The night was growing colder as the time passed on, and Echo found that the breeze off of the ocean was chilling her to the bone. She was glad for Sphuul's warm coat, otherwise she would be a wolfsicle by now. She shivered again, biting her lip to keep her teeth from chattering. Why was it so darn cold! She looked at the brute, meeting his eyes. She was still so startled that she could actually look in this wolf's eyes, it had been beaten out of her. Meeting another wolf's eyes was not allowed, but she found herself feeling like she had known him for a long time. Echo wondered if he felt the same way. She felt his eyes roam across her form and the female turned her head bashfully, fiddling with her paws in the sand. Why oh why was she acting like this?
The red hued wolf pressed even closer to the brute, finding herself growing colder and colder as the night went on. Her eyes roamed around the shore, looking to see if there was any shelter around. When she saw none, a huff hissed through her lips. If she didn't find a warmer place, she was going to freeze to death. She looked up at Sphuul again, finding that his eyes were once again searching her. "W-w-what?" she asked, glancing around herself to see if anything was askew. When she found nothing, she looked up again at the male. Her head tilted to the side, curiosity swarming in her blue eyes. What was it that this male saw in her? He seemed to be so interested, but in what? There was nothing that interesting about her. Well, her past could be something of interest, but he knew that already. So why was it that he kept looking at her that way?
Echo felt a shock roll down her spine when Sphuul lowered her head, his tongue dancing across her cheek. Even though she had done that to him twice now, it had been a long time since she was caressed like her. Forget her being cold, a warm feeling was now spreading though her entire body. His words shook her to the core, it was what she thought about a lot too. "B-b-ut it is n-n-n-ot someth-thing t-t-t-that w-w-we c-can grow out of. W-w-we h-have t-t-t-to l-learn t-t-o f-f-forgi-ive, n-n-not f-f-f-orget," He said he would change her past if he could, and a snort blew out of her nose. She shook her head sadly, rubbing her head on his chest. "O-o-out p-p-past m-makes us w-w-who w-we are," she whispered, a sigh following it. It was not something that she was happy about all the time, but... it had to happen.
"Thank you, Echo. I care as well, even though some..times I can't show.. it."
Those words moved her to a whole new ball park. Her eyes flashed, filling with tears. No one had cared about her, not for so long. A few beads of liquid trailed down her rusted cheeks, a soft laugh tinkling from her maw. It was happiness that danced in her eyes though, not the sadness that most would think to see with tears. "N-n-no one h-has c-c-cared f-for m-me."

Sphuul Sphuul nodded thoughtfully as Echo confirmed his guess on her master. He was relieved; she was in good hands, and she would not be harmed. A funny feeling hit his stomach at the thought of Echo being in pain. She was a stranger, yet he was already protective over the little female. Their bond went beyond time, beyond words. They were linked together through their pasts, and that connection cannot easily be severed.
He continued in his thoughts until Echo spoke again, one word clearly asking him something. Realizing he had been looking at her while he was deep in mind, he shook his head softly, a bashful smile creeping on his face. "Ah, nothing. Just thinking." Would she feel the same way, would she understand if he told her about how close they had become in such a short amount of time? He honestly didn't know, and he found himself studying her out of the corner of his eye as he watched the water.
She spoke again, and as her words registered, he turned to look at her once more. Yes, the past did create the being. "What characters we have turned out to be, because of our pasts." He shook his head softly, pressing his head down onto the fae's back, resting it there. She was shivering violently, and he attempted to warm her up as much as possible. "Sometimes I used to wonder about what I would have become if my past had been different." Her murmured the words softly, sighing as the last of it left his maw. "But it's pointless to do so."
Sphuul lifted his head as he felt her jolt. Had he said something wrong? He watched her, realizing tears were pooling in her eyes, and worry flashed through them. He didn't understand what was wrong until she spoke, the words breaking his heart again. He noticed the shift in her features was not sadness, but happiness, and he smiled as a laugh escaped her maw. "That is a shame. But I do care for you.. a lot." His mouth twisted slightly, frowning a little. The wind was biting his skin, sending soft shivers down his spine. If the cold was touching him through his thick fur, she must have been freezing. He glanced around quickly, a grim set to his maw. "But before we can speak any more, we must find a place out of this wind. You're cold.. I don't want you to be cold." Stupid mouth.. Why in the hell would Sphuul want her to be cold? He wasn't obsessed with her having a cold temperature, so why should he point it out to her? Things just weren't making sense. Sphuul shook his head at himself as he looked. The beach was empty, desolate, and the trees behind them seemed to be the only shelter, but they were a fair distance away. "I think our best bet would be the tree line over there."

Her eyes squinted as he gave her a bashful smile, a frown pulling on her cheeks. "B-b-bullshit," she barked, studying the wolf. "W-w-what's on y-y-you m-mind Sp-phuul?" Her eyes turned soft and inviting, a smile replacing her frown. She knew that there was something on his mind, she could tell. Not many wolves could get past these eyes, she seemed to pick up everything. Maybe it was her mother instincts, still kicking around even after her pups had left her. Echo saw that Sphuul was gazing out into the water, but his eyes were still on her. She gave a soft snort, waiting for him to give her an answer. Then, something changed.
Echo jumped back from the male, her legs spread slightly as she froze in terror. What was happening to her? A small tickle danced around in her throat, and then it grew to a raging fire. It didn't hurt, but it was still such a strange feeling. A light white glow ebbed around the reddened female, her blue eyes misting over completely. She felt a soft breeze whistle past her ears, when a voice spoke inside her head. "Be proud, Echo, and speak firmly now. Have faith in yourself, as where there is darkness, there must be some light." The Goddess Eperna! She had spoken with her before she came to the beach, and said that her blessing was given. Echo had been upset when it didn't work right away, but now she could feel the changes. The same voice chuckled in her mind before it faded, as well as the light in her eyes and around her entire form.
Echo relaxed, blinking her eyes several times. "Sphuul?" she whispered, then her jaw dropped when she didn't stutter over her words. "It worked! My stutter is gone!" her voice was soft and musical as it had been before all the trauma in her life. A huge smile spread ear to ear, her tail wagging a mile a minute. "It happened Sphuul, it really worked!" She barked excitedly, then raced back to the large brute and rubbed herself against her chest. She was so happy that her tongue lapped on his chest a few times, then stretched up on her toes to place one on his cheek. "It's really alright! I can speak again!"
She shook her head, then remembered that he had spoken about their pasts. She nodded her head, excitement still glittering in her eyes. "No kidding, but it has made us so much stronger. Well... in a sense," she added, thinking once again about how they had both frozen with fear when they first saw each other. That wouldn't change in a while, she could see that now. "I also wonder that. My pups would have been two years old now, I probably would have been teaching them how to hunt," a wistful look shadowed her eyes, but she was still amazing that her voice was back to normal. "But thinking about how our lives would have been, we cannot change the past."
"...But I do care for you.. a lot."
Echo's eyes clouded over again, heat spreading through her heart. "I care for you too Sphuul. It's strange... but I feel as if we have know each other for so long. You know more about me than any other wolf knows, even my master. You have seen me through so much already... and even opened my eyes a little," she said with a smile, nuzzling his chest. The wind picked up and she shivered again, this time more violent than before. She pressed in closer to the male, but even that wasn't helping her now. It was so bloody cold out... Then he spoke again, his words making her giggle slightly. "Well I'm glad that you're here to look out for me Sphuul. I might have frozen to death," Sphuul pointed out the trees and she nodded. It was a long walk, but it would be warmer there. She stood up and shook her coat, a few handfuls of sand dusting off of her coat. She stood on the male's other side, blocking as much wind as she could. Leaning against him slightly she made for the tree line.

Sphuul Sphuul couldn't help chuckling as Echo called him on his bluff. After what they'd already shared, it shouldn't matter to him whether or not the fae knew his thoughts. But he still looked away quite bashfully, a soft smile painting his face. "Nothing really, Echo. I just couldn't.. comprehend how a wolf.. as small as you are has carried such a large burden." Sphuul looked back at her then, a rueful twist to his otherwise playful smile. "But I've learned the hard way, looks can be decieving. It was a foolish thought." A soft sigh brushed past the brutes teeth, and he met her gaze softly.
Sphuul's eyes widened in alarm as the fae jumped away from him, an utterly bewildered and shocked expression on her face. He looked around quickly, standing, ready to meet the threat that she had seen. But nothing was there, nothing other than sand and water and the faint cry of the seagulls. He turned his eyes back on Echo to question her when a shocked snort took his breath from him. She was glowing. Literally glowing, like an angel or something. Once again, Sphuul found himself mesmerized as she seemed to wilt, eyes misting over with a soft breeze seeming to wrap around her in a gentle embrace. His head cocked, curiosity and fear skittering through his body. What was going on here? Was she dying or something?
The glow faded, and Sphuul watched Echo warily, waiting for spiders to come out of her eyes and her legs to turn into snakes. But, rationally, that didn't happen. Instead, she tentatively opened her maw, blinking rapidly as she uttered his name. It was strong, clear of her previous stutter, and the brute couldn't help but allow his mouth to swing open in shock. What? But.. but.. What? His shock faded quickly as excitement took over the fae, a smile dazzling her face and her tail wagging. A smile crept on his own face, despite his confusion over the event. Whatever had happened, she was free of her stutter, no longer a broken slave who couldn't speak. Now she was a not-so broken slave who could speak.
Echo's excitement seemed to fill the air around them, swirling the breeze and making things lighter. She launched back into his chest, and he licked her shoulder softly. His cheeks turned red, eyes widening, when she reached up to give him a lick on his cheek, and his tail beat against the sand a few times, making the air a little sharper as the grains blew up with the wind. "Echo, that's fantastic." His sense of speech seemed to have escaped from him, as everything he said sounded stupid. Of course it was fantastic. It wasn't a horrible tragedy, it was a good thing. Wasn't it? Duh.
As Echo continued their earlier conversation, a laugh took the brute's breath with a stunning vigor. Yes, cowering in the sand seemed like an amazing strength. But Sphuul understood her point well enough to not point out that little fact. Of course she would think of that as well, so there was no need making an ass out of himself. He instantly sobered when she began speaking about her pups, sorrow coloring his face. "The past is the past, as we've all been told. It's just more important for some." Another sigh shook the brute, and his shoulders rolled, stretching out the muscles, to have something to do. Sitting there like an awkward moron would not help the situation.
Sphuul gave a sweet smile at Echo as she spoke again, mirroring his thoughts nearly to a T. How strange it is to meet such an old, familiar soul in such a place, such a fashion.. Unless she could read the brutes thoughts, chances were she thought the same of him. "I can say nothing but the same, Echo. I've told you things I didn't even want to tell myself. It's hard, but it's also liberating, in a sense." His mouth twisted as he remembered the sobs that had run it's course through the fae, almost shuddering at the memory. It had been an experience, to say the least.
His thoughts came to a halt as the fae gently shivered against him, reminding him of the wind. A huff of breath escaped through his nose, quickly carried away by the cool wind. It would only get colder, and her thin fur wouldn't do much good against the weather. He stood slowly, shaking the sand from his silvery pelt, and faced the trees. The brutes eyes glanced over the area, making sure they were still the only ones out here. As Echo began to move, he followed, shielding the wind from his new friend as best as his body could allow him.

Her audits perked at the sound of his laughter, a wonderful sound that made her feel happy. She was making someone laugh, was a glorious power to wield. She smiled back at him, until his words sunk it. Her smile turned to the opposite, her head tilting slightly. She never really thought of how much of a burden she held on her small shoulders. Echo looked up at Sphuul, taking in their size difference once more. It was like comparing a sprout to a forest, the difference was grand. If she were to duplicate herself and stand on top of her other self, then she would be taller than him. Well, maybe just taller, but still. She sighed, a slight smile returning. When he spoke of deceiving looks and took in his changed smile, a sharp nod shook her head. She too knew the feeling. She had no response to offer him, what could she follow up with? Another 'I know,'? No, enough of that. He knew that she understood him, they had both been betrayed by wolves that they thought loved them back. But it was foolish, look where that got them.
And then she change happened. Past the glowing light she could see his wide eyes staring at her as a strange wind circled her form. A snort sounded from him, causing her to grin in her orb of light. He never looked away from her, and she received comfort from the fact that he was still here and that he hadn't fled from her. She gave him a soft murr, letting him know just how happy she was that he was here with her. If it had been anyone else, she would have felt embarrassed. She was happy that this big, lumbering brute was here to witness whatever was going on with her.
She couldn't help but laugh when Sphuul's jaw drop, the sound musical as it trickled out of her maw. She was so giddy, felt as if she were walking on air as her voice came out clear and crisp. A singing voice, as her mother use to say. She did that just then, tipping up her head and letting her howl sing loud. Before she never howled, it wavered when it left her mouth. But now it was clean and pure, and it felt good to finally release her song.
When she was finished she raced to the brute, a flash of warmth washing over her when his tongue danced over the fur on her shoulder. She stretched up to reach his cheek, spreading her own warmth there. He heard the thump of his tail on the earth and sneezed when the sand tickled her nostrils. She was just so happy! Sphuul said something, but she couldn't hear him over the ringing in her ears. When she had calmed down enough to precede the world around her, pressing into the heat of his body. Her heart still raced in her chest, and she let out a sigh of pure delight.
He laughed again, her smile only growing at the sound. They had been quite silly when they first ran into each other, almost quite literally. But when she talked about her babies, both of their faces returned to a saddened state. The past was the past... there was no way that they could change it now. "Well, meeting you has made up for a lot of wrong that has been done to me," she said, not meeting his eyes as a blush spread across her cheeks. She shuffled her paws bashfully, peaking up at him under her lashes. She was certainly happy that she met this once. Echo nuzzled his chest, licking one of the scars that she had brushed past. She found a few others and licked them as well, almost as if she could clear them away. "I hate what she did to you," she growled, a fierce look shadowing her eyes. She peaked up at him, fuming at the thought of someone hurting him. "I could kill her for that."
When they spoke of caring, her eyes once again lightened to a piercing blue. Yes, she felt as if she had known him forever. Echo wished to know him for a lot longer too. His smile was so sweet, and she returned the gesture. She nodded at his words, just wanting to revel in the silence for awhile. Their heat pulsed into one another, their fur dancing across one another. Echo couldn't look away from his eyes, felt like she could gaze into them forever. That is when the cold shook her again, breaking the moment between them.
He stood and Echo followed in suit, not bothering to shake her fur. The wind was picking up, causing her to shake more violently. She was thankful for Sphuul blocking all the wind he could, and she picked up her speed to a trot. Echo then broke out into a full out sprint, racing for the tree line that would provide some comfort. She looked for the brute, but knew that he would be able to keep up, if not surpass her, with ease.
Finally Echo broke away from the sand, crashing into the undergrowth. She panted, her pink tongue lolling out of her maw. She walked further into the forest, listening to the wind rattle the leaves above her head. It was warmer here, she had already stopped shaking. She paused then, turning about and taking her seat on the ground. She had gained her breath back, and smiled at Sphuul. "Warm at last."

Sphuul Sphuul felt so comfortable around her. It was strange, fully knowing they had met only minutes ago, maybe longer, frightened out of their wits. They were now pressed against each other in the cold breeze, a smiling plucking at their mouths with surprising ease. How simple it was, to be with Echo, to laugh and talk to her like they were old friends. It surely felt as if they were old friends. He hadn't felt this happy, this light, in a long time. Maybe, just maybe, he was the happiest he had ever been. The male corrected himself swiftly. No, this was the happiest he had ever been. His past had always been marred. Sure, he had been happy enough with Reyna. But she had never returned any of it, and there was always that doubt, lingering in the back of his mind.
Shaking off his dark thoughts, Sphuul's eyes lingered on Echo, tracing the delicate pattern of her face, her pretty, happy expression, and finally gazed into the eyes that held hope and goodness. Could he ever be that way again? Truly good? The brute had never committed a crime, never harmed another, but he hadn't been good, either. Merely neutral. He had been selfish during this time, caring about nothing but what his broken heart had caused. Not knowing that somewhere, a female like Echo was suffering, was grieving the loss of her children. How heartless he had been. Guilt swept his frame, making sure to carefully keep it hidden. His eyes flickered away, looking over the small girls head as he was wracked with despairing guilt. He had troubled her with his story, when hers was gruesome, cruel. Sphuul thought he had it bad. What a fool.
Echo spoke then, drawing his gaze back to her. The words that flew through her maw, those clear, strong words, held a good deal of emotion, and Sphuul smiled softly. Her thoughts touched something deep inside of him, something he believed to, at one time, been his heart. It warmed, and he could almost tangibly feel as the peices began to fuse themselves back together. "I'm glad to hear you say that, Echo. I can easily say the same." As the male finished speaking, he lowered his head to nudge her shoulder softly, his long, silvery fur brushing her as he moved. He felt her move under him, nosing about her fur until her tongue touched one of his scars, and then another. She tensed under him, and then spoke. He moved his head back enough to look at her, his brows raised questionably.
Echo had taken up a growl that shook her petite frame, her glittering eyes darkening as anger flew over her like a storm cloud. The words being uttered from the small females maw had his heartstrings tugging, and a sad, yet determined frown set his face. "Thank you, Echo, for the offer. But I don't want you near her, ever." Sphuul felt protective over this little wolf, and his eyes darkened in response to the thought of petite little Echo face to face with the cool, icy gaze of the wolf he had loved. His eyes closed and a soft sigh brushed past his teeth, before he looked down at her once more. The scar puffed up on her face seemed to bring out the anger on her face, and she looked like she really would set out to avenge him.
Then things calmed, words about caring for one another settled the dark cloud that had marred the happiness on Echo's face. They became silent, eyes locked as they simply enjoyed each other's company. His fur blew to and fro in the wind, caressing the female who rested so close to his chest. Blue watched amber, and amber gazed at blue, and the silence became tangible. Almost as if on que, the wind broke the silence, sending Echo into shudders, breaking the spell that had seemed to rest over the two wolves. The waves crashed against the shore, the wind picking up and the gulls crying out as noise seemed to flood back to them. Sphuul shook his head softly, and stood, preparing to depart from the sandy beach.
He began to walk, keeping the wind from hitting his companion as they moved towards the trees. The male matched her pace as she lengthened her stride into a trot, but caught unaware as she changed her gait once more, sprinting towards the trees. His amber eyes glinted, and he took off, loving the feel of the wind as the sand was sent up in showers of dirt behind him. He caught up to her easily, matching her speed as they neared the forest. They broke through, into the trees, Sphuul stumbling at the change in ground. He didn't stop in time, skidding so hard his face hit the floor with a loud thunking sound. His neck thrust itself up, removing his face from the ground, and began to sneeze rapidly. The metallic taste of dirt filled his mouth, and he spit it out, coughing in disgust. Shaking his head in irritation and out right embarrassment, he turned to Echo, walking to her slowly. He sat next to her, a smile filling his dirty features. "Nailed it!"

This brute seemed to tear down all of Echo's walls and just walk right into her heart. She could look at him and smile without even having to force it. For once she didn't hear the nagging thoughts in the back of her mind that held her back from interactions. She was finally free of them. Her stutter was gone, her voice back to its beautiful self. She felt... whole again. All thanks to this brute. But why did she feel like she had met him before? She felt as if she had known him a past life time ago - if there was such a thing. They just seemed to fit, like two missing puzzle pieces that had finally been found. Her puzzle was complete now. Echo gave a sigh of contempt, her tail stirring up a few grains of sand. It was getting darker, she realized, and even colder. How long have they been sitting out here? She looked around, suppressing another shiver.
Echo's eyes were drawn back to the brute when she felt his warm gaze wash over her. A blush warmed her cheeks as she blinked her embarrassment away rapidly. When Sphuul looked at her it felt different, like he was actually seeing her. He didn't see her scar, didn't see her past or her pain. He actually saw her, flesh and blood. He looked past the things that every other wolf seemed to linger on, her rank too. As soon as he heard she was a Sklavin he hardly batted an eye. It didn't matter to him, he seemed to see her for who she actually was. That, that was a gift. She was so happy that she had met this wolf, she felt normal for once in her life. She was so happy, and it was all because of him. Echo gave him her sweetest smile, trying to show him just how happy he was making her. She could spend forever with him...
The fae mentally shook her head in surprise, casting her gaze towards the water. Forever? Did she just think that? Blinking rapidly she tried to hide her feelings from him. What was she thinking? Yes she liked this brute, a lot, but was she already thinking of forever? Shock coarse through her body, but it made her heart stutter. Forever with Sphuul? She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and smiled slightly. Yes, she could do that with this male. But there was no need to rush into those things, she needed to know his feelings and take longer to get a grasp on hers. It could just be a spur-of-the-moment thing, and she needed to make sure that neither one of them would get hurt in this. She noticed then that he too was looking at the water. She couldn't see his eyes, but it seemed that he was fighting with something. The small female whined softly and scooted closer, leaning against him. "It's okay Sphuul," she whispered, not even knowing what he was fighting with. But to know that she was here to him... surely that will help. Gently licking his flank she nuzzled closer, saying those very words to him. "I'm here for you."
She was glad that her words carried some meaning to him. Echo would do anything to see that smile on his face again. It brought joy to her, making him smile. But this time his grin appeared different, filled with more than one emotion. His reply made her heart leap into her throat, almost making her eyes swell with tears. He cared about her, he truly did. It wasn't out of pity, he didn't look at her as if she was a lost cause. She could barley feel her scar tug at her skin as she smiled, barley noticed that she could only hear out of one ear. Everything was right with the world right now, and she could stay this way for days on end. Well, maybe warm up a bit. She wished she could just say one word and then bam! she was warm. Echo laughed at herself, but also out of happiness. His nose bumped her shoulder playfully and she nosed closer to him, licking his silver fur.
That is when she hit the scars, and anger flooded through her. It heated her body and made her quiver slightly. She could feel Sphuul pull back slightly and look at her with a question held in his gaze. She growled softly, her immense anger making her pale blue eyes appear darker. They were crashing waves now, and she shook again at how strong this feeling was. That femme, that damned female! He did this to him, she ruined his heart and made him scared. She barely heard his words as another growl ripped out of her throat. "I don't care. I could do it," she said through clenched teeth, her words chopped. She took a shaky breath, trying to calm herself. "You didn't deserve to be treated like that. I could just -- ugh!" she gave up on words, they seemed to be failing her at the moment. After another few shaky breaths she seemed to be able to get a grip on her emotions. It took longer than it should have, but she felt such a passionate anger coarse through her. With another shaky sigh she closed her eyes, gripping down on her anger. When she was done she looked up at Sphuul, his eyes darkened as he gazed at her, a set frown on his lips. Echo tried to smile, but her lips only twitched. Shaking her head, she cleared the last of her anger away, with a lot of effort.
She was glad when the tone of their conversation changed, making it a lot easier for her to calm herself. It almost scared her, how angry she had been. It almost took over her and had shaken her up pretty badly. But that was over and done with now, there was no need lingering on them. With a deep sigh she settled into the warm fur that covered her own shorter fur. She was glad to have him here and not some other short haired wolf, otherwise she would be a frozen wolf for sure. A wolfcicle for sure. Echo chuckled at her own joke, then glanced up at Sphuul. She felt... complete. Their eyes locked, and her breath became shaky. It wasn't because of anger, but something quite the opposite. She leaned a bit closer, was about to press their noses together when a harsh wind rattled her. Shivering, she pulled back and blinked, her cheek turning bright red underneath her copper fur.
Finally they began to move, although it was hard for Echo to pull away from him. It was almost like they were stuck together like a magnet, it needed a bit of force to come apart. They were walking, then she was running. She could almost feel the heat of shelter already, screaming her name. When she entered the tree line she turned back and waited for Sphuul who was just a bit further behind her. Claiming her seat on the forest she waited, then saw the silver male crash through the trees. Crash! She blinked and looked down at Sphuul, who was smiling up at her with dirt and leaves stuck to his face. Echo's cheeks puffed up as she tried to hold back her laughter, but as soon as he spoke she burst. Almost manic laughter pooled out of the female, her sides heaving painfully.
When Echo was able to calm herself, she took a few deep breaths, still giggling. The look on his face! She was almost on the ground laughing. "Crazy boy," she laughed, walking up to him and cleaning the dirt off of her face. Her licks were gentle and soft, caressing almost. She rumbled happily, the sound deep in her throat. When she picked off the last piece of debris she stepped back and admired her work. "There, you're all handsome again," Echo didn't realize what she said until it left her lips, and she blinked a few times. Grinning sheepishly, she didn't take back her words. He was a handsome wolf, she had admitted that to herself long ago. She just wasn't sure that she should have said that out loud. Oops... oh well... It was out in the open now.
