Calliope The combined effect of excursion and anxiety had Calliope's heart practically beating out of her chest. She could hear the roar of blood in her ears, feeling her body throb with each beat. The noise drowned out all other sounds, allowing her to withdraw to her mind and sort out the events of the day. Calliope began to make a mental list, placing everything in order and only thinking of one thing at a time. It was a method her sister had taught her, a way to keep herself from becoming overwhelmed with everything she had to worry about.
The first on her list was the new Alpha. Their two-second interaction gave her no time to make a good first impression. This was her second chance and she could prepare for it. It was important, then, that she greet the new Alpha before explaining her tardiness to Kasimira. That was the second item: how to best apologize. Calliope knew she wouldn't need to fake sincerity; she was truly sorry she had dug herself into this mess.
Protecting Zy. The femme turned the thought over and over in her mind. With Kyren and Matrid out searching, she didn't really need to give a detailed explanation for him. Kyren had made it clear that Zy was no longer her responsibility. Worry gnawed at her still. Now that Kasimira had Tortuga, she no longer needed a flirtatious relationship with a sklavin. Zy's charm would not save him if the queen had a jealous mate. Calliope's face reflected the turmoil inside as she told herself that Zy was a waste of her time. You need to let go of this . . . obsession. Despite this, he stayed in her mind until she reached the dens.
"Lady Kasimira?" Calliope opened her mouth to call for her Alpha, but realized she had no title to place in front of his name. If Kasimira was a lady, did that make Tortuga a lord? Or was he simply sir?
Feeling she had given her mistress fair warning, Calliope approached the den that gave off their scents. Hovering around the entrance, she spotted black fur against white. "Lady," she greeted Kasimira, dipping her head in respect. With a slight pause, she spoke again, acknowledging Tortuga. "Sir." Though she had planned for this moment on her way back, she didn't prepare for the rush of fear that infected her around Kasimira. Instead of following her plan calmly, she dived into her apology.
"I'm sorry for not answering your howl. I meant to find Zy quickly and bring him back, because you left him in my care, but I," Calliope gulped in air to refresh her starving lungs, "I failed to find him. Kyren sent me back to you."
As she waited for a response, Calliope reflected that this was not what she had meant to be. At the Rock she promised herself she would do her best to become invisible. She wanted to be the slave that dominors almost forgot about, the one whose name they did not bother to remember. Instead, she had become one of the troublemakers. Perhaps Zy's idiocy would make her own seem small in comparison, but Kasimira would not easily forget that Calliope had disregarded an order.

KASIMIRA Night's darkness now faded from the land and a new dawn began to rise in Irrsin, Kasimira sleeping fitfully. Moments she would drift from sweet lullabies of conquests and the raging pulse of battle, adrenaline flowing, heart thumping wildly. Protection flitted to the growing pups inside her. They would be strong, no doubt, infused with the makings of both their high ranking parents. The kingdom had been started with this new litter, the continuing of life a symbol that grew within her. Yet every now and again a shadow would lurk in the recesses of her thoughts, probing her with dark voices and quiet dictations. She had deliberately run away from home. Past loves had been lost to both time and broken promises. In a pointless battle she had been wounded, almost beyond repair. Was this the start to such a glorious future?
"Lady Kasimira?"
It was with a sudden, harsh gasp for air and a violent twitch of her body that the she-wolf awoke from her slumber, azure eyes darting hastily around to find what had startled her. Kasimira's eyes soon fell gently on the sleeping figure of Tortuga, his breath softly billowing into her fur. How sweet he looked, so content beside her. The words from the previous night rang through her and a happiness warmed her. Pups. Tortuga had been delighted at the idea, a tenderness she had never seen before flickering in his blue orbs. Oh, how she adored him...
Swiftly, a distorted figure appeared on the cave wall, coming closer to the den. Kasimira bared her teeth and nudged her mate, a tinge of fear pricking her. Who dared enter her den at this hour? And with such bold intent? But before any hasty decisions could be made, a certain female scent hit her and a less apprehensive recognition twinkled in the queen's eyes. Calliope. The first sklavin of Irrsin, and while certainly not the last, someone Kasimira had found herself missing with a strange attachment. As Calliope's meek voice addressed them, a small smile crept its way onto the black she-wolf's face. Calliope was learning well, a good addition to her pack and a loyal follower. Already she knew the way to address her superiors. Regardless, it did not excuse her absence--but where was Zy? Kasimira glanced precariously behind her sklavin with a quirked brow. The queen had no time for a verbal accusation or inquiry to Zy's whereabouts; Calliope provided the answer almost immediately.
"I'm sorry for not answering your howl. I meant to find Zy quickly and bring him back, because you left him in my care, but I...I failed to find him. Kyren sent me back to you."
The mere fact that Calliope had disobeyed her direct orders--and on top of it, the sklavin had been ordered to return by Kyren--silently burned inside the coal-coated she-wolf as the three sat in silence. Kasimira cast her azure eyes onto Calliope in disdain, a small anger bubbling there. How should she approach this? Calliope had been looking for Zy and had only been in the interests of her mistress. But was that the correct answer? With a steady, icy gaze Kasimira delivered the verdict.
"I don't take well to the dismissal of my dictation. Next time, it would serve you well to follow orders and ask questions and particulars later."
The she-wolf paused before continuing, her voice firm but not reprimanding. Calliope had always been her favorite. Besides, why punish the female for something she had done in her favor? It was not worth the time or effort that she was lacking at the moment. This would be a warning. Much was to be announced today and such a beating for Calliope would ruin the moment. Kasimira shook her mind of the thoughts, continuing with a renewed determination. My beautiful pups...
"Zy will return, no doubt. He needs the pack's security. I know that and so does he. When he returns I will make his judgment."
Kasimira glanced at Tortuga before speaking, a glimmer of subtle happiness spreading.
"I need to speak with Kyren. Is he near?"
As soon as Kyren made his presence known she would free him from his sklavin shackles. The night before she had carefully considered her mate's input and it only made sense to appoint such a well respected and intelligent wolf to be her co-commander. With pups on the way... Kasimira's thoughts didn't finish, instead casting a loving glance at Tortuga. Their reign had officially begun.

Kyren had wanted to put far more time into playing with his new mate, enjoying such a simple pleasure in life. A few minutes of playfulness before he again late the weight of life settle upon his shoulders. There were too many concerns, too many goals to achieve, and now even more responsibilities than before to let life be ruled by such illogical things as emotions. Another short leap up, a paw on muzzle and then he backed off away from Matrid. “Sorry Matrid, but we must return now and we must make up for lost time.”
Kyren took off running hard, that right eye watching Matrid, both to get use to watching her for any signs, and to make sure his fast pace wasn’t faster than her own. They hadn’t tried a hard run before, and so he had no clue of Matrid’s speed. His mind focused away from Matrid finally, perhaps the play time had helped clear out some of those overpowering emotions and allowed him to focus on the near future. Calliope would arrive before them, how much sooner depended on how fast Calliope had decided to travel. Most likely the lady wasn’t in too much of a hurry for them all to return she was probably far more interested in healing and bonding more to Tortuga. Now, he understood how one could truly enjoy some privacy to bond to a mate. Still, any alpha’s pride would demand their orders be carried out promptly and he doubted the lady was any different. Once they were closing in towards the den, yet still far enough off to not be heard he slowed down and turned his head to focus more fully on Matrid. “We still hardly know the lady, or how much we can trust any of the others in our pack, for now at least we show nothing. If we decide it is safe to show how we feel, if I decide the lady will not take badly to the idea of our being mates, then I will let you know it is safe to make it obvious. Understand no matter how it appears, I am still proud to have you as a mate. Trust me. I will make things right as soon as possible. I swear to you I do not suggest hiding our feelings for sake of my pride, but only for your safety and our staying together. What should happen if an alpha worries that one sklavin is more loyal to its mate instead of the alpha? One could be killed, sent to auktion rock to be separated, have one’s spirit broken, or whatever else the alpha might decide.” A sigh as he thought of all he just said and not wanting to overly worry her. “Of course, the alpha might not mind of such a thing.”
This said he continued at a slow trot, his eyes once more focused forward, ears up and forward listening for the slightest of sounds, after only a few more seconds he spoke again but softer, “now, not so close and stay several strides behind me.”
With this after only a few more minutes he approached the den, noticing as he did he could smell not just the lady and Tortuga but Calliope as well. He hadn’t seen any likelihood in her not returning, but it was good all the same to have evidence that she had returned. Once the lady was in sight Kyren bowed low as before, head practically resting against the ground, “My lady, we followed Zy’s scent to the boundary of your land. My apologies if you would have preferred us continuing to chase him, and for not managing to bring him back. Likewise I apologize for upsetting him earlier as I believe that likely had a part to play in his leaving.” Hell, she’d already stated she knew what happened practically, so whether or not the apology meant anything, it certainly wasn’t going to do any harm.
Matrid was being ignored, all his focus on the lady. At least with his mind plotting all the possibilities of what might happen and needing to watch the alpha for any hint of her thoughts it was not so hard as it might be in the future when things settled. For now, by all appearances he showed no signs of caring for the female sklavin.

MATRID
*
“Sorry Matrid, but we must return now and we must make up for lost time.”
Once more their playtime was cut short, but Matrid found herself relieved that it had even occured. She straightened, her tail still wagging back and forth gently as she nodded to him. He suddenly bounded forward, and she sprinted after him, slowing only once she was at his side.
He began to speak and she eagerly listened. He was explaining that they should keep each other a secret for a while, not because he was ashamed of her, but because it was best. She found herself nodding again, agreeing with him. She had no idea how Kasimira would react to them, and the last thing she wanted was to end up seperated from Kyren. No, she didn't think she could handle it. "I understand completely. And I agree." Her voice was soft, a small smile still on her muzzle. She hated that she would have to act as if they barely knew each other, but she knew it was required.
As they approached the caves, she moved a little further away from Kyren, falling a few steps behind him. She lowered her head more, her posture more slink-like now as she slid into the den behind Kyren. Her eyes moved from Calliope to Kasimira and then to Tortuga, a smile aimed at Calliope and a respectful look for the other two. She stayed a few feet behind Kyren still, appearing as if she were trying to keep attention off of herself. She had to act like she had before, after all.
“My lady, we followed Zy’s scent to the boundary of your land. My apologies if you would have preferred us continuing to chase him, and for not managing to bring him back. Likewise I apologize for upsetting him earlier as I believe that likely had a part to play in his leaving."
When Kyren had finished speaking, she spoke up as well, although she kept her voice low and respectful as she nodded to Kasimira and Tortuga. "Sir, Lady Kasimira. I apologize as well for not being able to bring Zy back."
This she was sincere about. It would have been nice to return, triumphant, Zy following after them. But she still believed it was best that they did not cross the border after him. Had they have done so, Matrid would have worried about Lady Kasimira's reaction. Not that she still wasn't worried; she was. Would Kasimira be angry?
Shifting, she edged towards the others just slightly before coming to a pause again, ears back against her skull and her eyes curiously observing everyone. Tortuga spoke to Kasimira in a low voice, the words barely reaching Matrid's ears. She was curious to know what Kasimira thought as well, however. Would she go after Zy herself, even in her current state? Or would she leave it to one of her slaves? Perhaps she would wait for him to return of his own will. When, and if, he did, Matrid had the thought that she would more than likely be feeling sorry for him.
Tortuga Tortuga was resting peacefully at his mate's side, sides rising and falling gently with each massive breath he took. His large frame was completely relaxed, wild images running rampant through his head. He was dreaming of hunting, which eventually shifted to hunting beside Kasimira. That only lasted a short while as well before it was dreams of their pups, of him romping around with them, showing them how to be stealthy when stalking prey. Funny how even this dreams revolved around his mate and approaching pups already. Funny, actually, how much he already found himself caring about them when they hadn't even been brought into the world yet. Kasimira shifted beside him, and although his dreams rippled, he wasn't fully awakened. He payed little mind to it, assuming that she was simply moving to rearrange herself into a more comfortable position. When she nudged him, however, he was awake immediately. He smelled her fear and his head snapped up, ears pricked with instant aggression towards whatever had startled his mate. Before the ivory male could get to his feet, a scent hit him, seemingly at the same time that it reached Kasimira. Vaguely familiar. Ah, that's right. Calliope. The sklavin who had welcomed him before. Kasimira's fear melted away, and Tortuga's hackles lowered; he had barely even noticed them rise before. As the sklavin came into view, he looked her over, noticing that Zy was absent. He was the only slave that Tortuga had not met yet, and the brute could only wonder what he was like. And where he was. She spoke, addressing them both. "Calliope." He responded with a slight dip of his head, briefly acknowledging her prescense. She then apologized for not responding to Kasimira's call, offering up an explanation. Tortuga thought it would be interesting to see how Kasimira reacted. His blue eyes flitted to his mate, gauging her reaction, ever curious. "I don't take well to the dismissal of my dictation. Next time, it would serve you well to follow orders and ask questions and particulars later."Her words were strict, her gaze looking downright similar to frozen as she spoke. But it did not seem as if she would punish Calliope. Tortuga nodded to himself, laying his head down and watching the two, ears at attention. He truly did wonder where this Zy fellow had gone off to. He was relieved that Calliope had returned, in a way, because Kasimira did not need the added stress of two missing sklavin's. Unfortunately, it seemed as if she would still have to deal with it. Kasimira questioning where Kyren was brought Tortuga out of his reverie. He returned her glance, sliding closer until their shoulders were pressed together. Subtle, but a clear reminder that she was his. His gaze snapped to the opening of the cave once more as Kyren suddenly appeared, Matrid slinking after him. They were just as Tortuga had remembered them from earlier, still minus Zy. So they hadn't found him either. Interesting. He shifted, lifting his head again, his ears anxious to hear any news that Kyren would bring. Now that he ruled beside Kasimira, he had to pay attention to what was going on with the pack. Especially when it concerned a wolf who had seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth. “My lady, we followed Zy’s scent to the boundary of your land. My apologies if you would have preferred us continuing to chase him, and for not managing to bring him back. Likewise I apologize for upsetting him earlier as I believe that likely had a part to play in his leaving.”Ah, yes, Tortuga remembered making his appearance just as the two's argument had come to a close. He glanced to Matrid when she spoke, returning her nod before his gaze flickered back to Kasimira, once more searching for her reaction. He assumed she would be furious after learning that Zy had crossed her borders, but then again, the she-wolf could surprise him. The tip of his bushy tail twitched several times, his ears flicking as he awaited a response, his attention partially on Kasimira and partially on the other wolves gathered. "What do you think of all of this?"
His words were quiet, intended for her, although he knew and did not mind that the others could hear. His tone made it obvious that he truly valued what she thought, always ready to take it into consideration.[/blockquote]

Calliope "I don't take well to the dismissal of my dictation. Next time, it would serve you well to follow orders and ask questions and particulars later."
Calliope nodded silently, feeling like a scolded pup. The comparison startled her, as it suggested that Kasimira had become a motherly figure. Though the she-wolf could not be accused of babying her slaves, Calliope sensed a concealed warmth under her mistress' anger. It was made apparent more by what Kasimira didn't do, namely deal out punishment, than what she did. Maybe something had changed while Kasimira was out, Calliope mused. She cast a curious glance at Tortuga. Maybe he was shaping his mate into a gentler dominor.
The next minute, however, her mistress was all business again. No sooner had she asked for Kyren when he and Matrid materialized beside Calliope. Her amber eyes swept over them, trying to analyze their body language. But whatever she thought she saw between them out on the meadow, there was no trace of it here. As they informed the Alphas that Zy had left, Calliope made a strange choked noise in her throat. Embarrassed, she hoped they would mistake it for surprise or indignation at his actions. Even though she knew the pair would probably find his trail, she had maintained a small hope that they would not be able to follow it all the way to the border. Her lies were for naught, then. Calliope felt useless; she hadn't been able to please Kasimira and she failed to protect Zy.
She watched, uninterested, as Tortuga pressed against his mate and whispered in her ear. The events of the past few days weighed heavily on her mind, making her head feel like a lead weight. Sleep was quickly becoming her first priority. Slowly angling her face toward the other slaves, she examined them again. Kyren was impassive, his gaze settled intently on Kasimira, ignoring both Matrid and the other Alpha. Matrid was watching the Alphas as well, but more casually. Calliope knew that if one of the slaves was going to betray some kind of relationship, it would be Matrid. Though she seemed lost in thought, her eyes never strayed toward Kyren. Satisfied that she had not discovered any secret intimacy, Calliope turned her attention back to Kasimira, who looked ready to speak.

KASIMIRA The moment Kasimira questioned of Kyren, the brute appeared before her. Like a summoning call he was standing there, in the flesh and with Matrid following resignedly behind. Everything seemed normal. But where was Zy? Had she not given them strict enough orders to find the mongrel and bring him back? So what if they had to drag him? The royal queen herself had ordered it, ordered his firm arrival into reality. Yet here they were, without the desired cargo. Well, this should be entertaining... Kasimira kneaded her paws closer, forcing her fur to lie flat as she began her rigid evaluation of the trio.
“My lady, we followed Zy’s scent to the boundary of your land. My apologies if you would have preferred us continuing to chase him, and for not managing to bring him back. Likewise I apologize for upsetting him earlier as I believe that likely had a part to play in his leaving.”
A weak excuse. Kasimira had already proved to her sklavin that she knew of their quarrel; apologies and cover ups would do no good here. The ebony wolf shot a sidelong glance at Calliope, her mind processing the information. Hadn't Calliope been able to trace Zy's scent? She knew him well enough, and besides, she alone had been the last wolf to spot his flirtatious figure. Interesting. Kasimira made no movement to speak, waiting and watching as Matrid offered up her own list of grievances.
"Sir, Lady Kasimira. I apologize as well for not being able to bring Zy back."
Granted, if Kyren had found no reason to traverse farther from the Irrsin borders then Matrid would have made no attempt to change his thinking. The red coated male had doubtless made his ingenious thinking a lovely idea at the time; return to the Alpha and report a missing sklavin whose punishment he cared not for anyways. This devilish plan of his had failed.
"What do you think of all of this?"
It was the voice of Tortuga that snapped Kasimira from her pondering. However easily the queen had let Calliope off, the same didn't hold true in Kyren's blatant favor. Thought you'd just hand out orders, then? Kasimira spat the words out internally, her ears tugged backward in a hostile glare. Her features were only softened by a gentle nudge from Tortuga; Kasimira carefully shrugged him off, instead turning toward the only other male present, eyes flashing.
"Calliope, Matrid, you are excused. Wait outside."
The black she-wolf's gaze never left Kyren's as she spoke, a chilling anger rippling through her. Kasimira was assured the sklavin would follow her orders; Calliope especially after being lightly reprimanded when the price could have been much higher had she caught the Alpha in a different mood. Kasimira bared her teeth as paw steps rhythmically moved away. She needed to look fierce, brash. A tinge of fear needed to be installed in this brute. And now. As soon as the sound of movement died off completely, Kasimira started her tirade.
"You did not follow my orders. I expected much better of you, Kyren. Zy was to be brought back to me, by force if necessary. Was that not crystal clear?"
Silence sliced through the air, the tension in her voice crackling like a newborn fire. She was done being usurped by this wolf's fancy words and quick thinking. But suddenly Kasimira changed her tone, deliberate with her words as she made motion to stand before him, the clear dominant. When she granted him that sweet freedom it would be done with pride and acceptance of her acquaintance. The pain in her leg spliced through her, icy and flaming in seconds, but she simply gritted her teeth and continued the conversation as if nothing was awry.
"I do realize your potential, however. I believe our pack needs perceptive, courageous wolves that will undoubtedly work for Irrsin's survival."
Kasimira's thoughts pricked at the last sentence. I'll need your strength for when our pack gains new life. The sentence was held back, the female unwilling to spoil her secret just yet.
"Kyren, I would like you to join me as Beta."
Kasimira let the words sink in, taking the time to flick her ears and lay herself down comfortably; the leg was pulsating and making her mind quite sick. Water. I need water. Another voice whispered louder, overriding the need for the liquid for the time being. Hush. You can wait. This needs to be done. The black she-wolf gazed at Tortuga before turning her mind back to the russet wolf before her. Kasimira, her eyes glimmering, posed the final, lingering question aloud.
"Can I count on your loyalty and leadership for my pack, Kyren?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,250,true][bg=black] X.x "Quote" thought "speech" text x.X
I used up all of my tricks
Kasmira didn’t make it hard to spot her anger at the situation. When the ladies eyes flicked over to Calliope Kyren found himself wondering what she had told the lady of what she had found. Calliope had told Kyren she had lost Zy’s scent, and yet Kyren had managed to follow it right to the borders of their territory. Was she incompetent tracker, or was she trying to protect Zy? Kyren considered turning his own eyes to Calliope but instead he kept his attention focused fully on the wolf who had claimed him as her property. Probaby a good thing too, considering the next moment he found himself looking towards a lady who had quite a vicious glare on her face. With careful and deliberate gestures Kyren dipped his head low, pinning his ears back to offer her an expression of sorrow for upsetting her.
"Calliope, Matrid, you are excused. Wait outside."
This was sounding great. Well he imagined it was good to find how harshly she punished sklavins she was unhappy with anyway. Interesting that she was choosing to either threaten or physically harm him alone, without the others watching. Alone was almost offering a bit of respect, not using him as much of an example to the other wolves. It would be fine, the worse thing that could happen would be to lose control of himself and thus lose pride in himself. The choice of being hurt may not be his, but it was his choice alone on if he let her damage how he showed himself. His head stayed facing forward, with his eyes lowered but not so far as he couldn’t see the ladies face. It might not be good to appear too haughty right now, however it also seemed unwise to not watch her so that he didn’t miss anything of importance. The way the lady bared her teeth was a good example of something he didn’t particularly wish to miss seeing. "You did not follow my orders. I expected much better of you, Kyren. Zy was to be brought back to me, by force if necessary. Was that not crystal clear?"
I hope that you like this, but you probably won't
Kyren had his reasoning of course, however to say them now it would sound as just another excuse. As she stepped towards him, slowly he raised his head to meet her gaze. His eye focusing just slighty above her forehead, so that he wasn’t entering some stare down, but still showing he was offering her his full attention. His ears stayed back in sorrow, but there was still no fear in those eyes of demeanor, just a stoic expression of waiting for something unpleasant. The most hilarious part is with her injured leg Kyren couldn’t imagine losing a fight against her. Of course her an Tortuga made lousy odds, about as close to impossible as you could get. The irritating part was still the knowledge he wouldn’t attack. Sometimes it was hard to live up to the standards he set for himself.
"I do realize your potential, however. I believe our pack needs perceptive, courageous wolves that will undoubtedly work for Irrsin's survival."
Uhm. Kyren couldn’t say he was surprised all that often. However to expect he was about to hear more angry words, to expect some form of pain that would make…other wolves cringe, this was a bit surprising. It wasn’t just the words, but the shift in her tone and even in the way she stood. Those red ears that had been flat pricked upwards as his mind worked in overdrive trying to determine the reason for the shift. Not to say he hadn’t tried to show himself well around her, but he hadn’t had much time with her yet. Of course it could be a game to make him relax before he was hurt. It could also be a rare chance to not get hurt for his other qualities. Kyren hated not knowing what was going on. Not that he had to wait long before even a more shocking statement.
you think you're cooler than me
Kyren, I would like you to join me as Beta."
Kyren felt now how his jaw muscles had been taut, straining to keep his look of calm. After that last statement the muscles all loosened so that he nearly did open his mouth in surprise. Admittedly she had once mentioned to him freeing him from the title of sklavin, however she hadn’t mentioned making him beta. A wolf who’s rank would only be lower than the alpha’s, and possibly their pups. She had gone quiet, and yet moving to settle herself, offering a brief period of time where she appeared to not expect him to speak and where she was not giving him more information to take in. Kyren felt a shift in his thoughts for a moment, wondering what this would mean towards himself with Matrid but then quickly and successfully locking that away for later. Being a beta here was still not being an alpha, but it was a good sized step in the right direction. Shock tried to override thought, and with a controlled exhale of breath he shoved emotions away again. This was too much to take in at once, not like there was any question as to his preferring beta over sklavin.
"Can I count on your loyalty and leadership for my pack, Kyren?"
Hillarious! How recently had she jumped on him when he’d tried to pass orders out amongst the sklavins. Now he was being offered that leadership. It was obviously no joke, but the irony still danced about in his head. For a moment there was a grin on his muzzle but then he got himself under control, putting back that mask of perfect control. Kyren’s head dipped low in a nodding gesture. “My lady. My loyalty is to you first, and all that is yours. My leadership to the pack, so that it may grow strong and be safe. Whatever desires you have for the pack, for the members in it, I will do what is needed to make it happen.” The confidence in his voice was absolute. A back part of his mind was setting off warning bells, but he had no time to reflect right now. Confidence was the most important thing of the moment. To show that he knew he was capable of what she was offering him.

MATRID
*
"Calliope, Matrid, you are excused. Wait outside."
For a moment, Matrid felt a pang of fear. Kasimira looked truly angry, her eyes flashing with her unhidden rage. Matrid found herself crouching down a little further, trying hard not to show the worry she felt for Kyren. While she managed not to let it be seen on her face, she felt in rush through her emotionally. Had she made the wrong decision, now leaving Kyren to pay for it? She could only hope that he wasn't hurt on her behalf. Unable to do or say anything to prevent it without giving something away, however, she nodded.
"Yes, Mistress."
Her tone was obedient as ever, and with a final look at the others gathered, Matrid turned and padded out of the den. Her paws made very little noise on the grass once she was outside, her burly frame wandering a few feet away from the cave before she lowered herself into a sitting position. The light of the moon reflected off of lows clouds, strands of mist. Matrid could tell that morning wasn't too far off, but not exactly upon them, either. She took a deep breath, air sharp in her nostrils. Her thoughts were racing still, but the she-wolf continued to keep her expression blank. A poker face, she thought, but there was no amusement behind it. No cheering herself up.
She knew Calliope was near, and because of this, she tried to keep the solemn expression off of her face. Trying to appear as if she were slightly curious but for the most part uncaring about what was going on in the den, she turned her narrow face towards the other sklavin, tail brushing back and forth across the grass lightly, uprooting loose blades and scattering them gently.
"I hope you didn't get into too much trouble."
Her words managed to come off as sincere despite the turmoil bubbling inside of her at the moment. She offered a smile that she was surprised she had been able to manage, before her eyes caught a moth that fluttered past the two she-wolves. Her dark gaze followed the seemingly luminescent creature until it was out of sight. She watched the empty night for a few moments before she turned her dark eyes back to Calliope.
She hadn't been alone with the female until now. They had always been around other sklavin's, or around Lady Kasimira. Matrid didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable though There had been enough kind comments and smiles passed between the two for Matrid to know that they would get along nicely. And she was extremely grateful for Calliope's presence, although the other she-wolf probably didn't know it. The last thing Matrid would have wanted was to be alone out here, fretting over Kyren.
Nothing would completely take away the worry - except knowing he was fine - that much she knew; she wasn't foolish. But perhaps Calliope's company would ease the feelings inside of Matrid, enough to make them bearable, enough for them not to be the absolute only thought on her mind.

Tortuga
Finally. Tortuga thought. I'll be able to see how she reacts to unfortunate news.
He had been wondering ever since the sklavins had returned, minus Zy, how Kasimira would take it. He watched carefully as her eyes flashed with anger, teeth bared, causing her to look every bit as fierce as she intended to. Beautiful still, of course, but fierce. Tortuga could only wonder what punishment it was that Kyren was facing as the sound of Matrid and Calliope's departure slowly died away.
"You did not follow my orders. I expected much better of you, Kyren. Zy was to be brought back to me, by force if necessary. Was that not crystal clear?"
Silence. Given the current circumstances, some might have found it awkward or uncomfortable. Tortuga found himself shifting, although not because he was uneasy with the quiet. Moreso out of curiousity for what was going to unfold next. When Kasimira got to her feet, Tortuga fought down the worry that shot through him, forcing it to be silent. There was nothing to worry about. Kasimira was a strong vixen; he didn't have to fawn over her every second, that much he knew. The ivory brute found standing as well, although he did not approach Kyren. He hung back away from his mate and the sklavin, his vivid blue eyes regarding the two.
When Kasimira spoke again, her tone had changed, although she still appeared completely dominant. She completed the sklavin on his potential, and Tortuga found himself silently agreeing. From what he had seen of Kyren, the sklavin was strong-minded and smart, there was no looking around it. Of course, Tortuga could have been completely wrong about the male. But had he have been, Kasimira wouldn't have said what she did next.
"Kyren, I would like you to join me as Beta."
Silence once more, but this time to let the words hit home. She laid down once more, and although Tortuga remained standing near, when she gazed at him, he offered her a small approving nod and his usual half-smile that nearly resembled a smirk. It wasn't smug nor stuck-up, however. Simply sincere. She turned her head back to the red brute, and Tortuga did the same as she asked if she would be able to count on Kyren. Tortuga eagerly waited to hear his response, pleased when it came.
“My lady. My loyalty is to you first, and all that is yours. My leadership to the pack, so that it may grow strong and be safe. Whatever desires you have for the pack, for the members in it, I will do what is needed to make it happen.”
"Well spoken." Tortuga commented with a small nod, before lowering himself into a sitting position beside his mate, tail still and ears perked forward, once more waiting to see what occured next. The pack was turning out to be very interesting indeed, never housing a boring moment as of yet. Already he found himself liking it here, his body relaxing more, fully prepared to accept this land that he ruled with Kasimira as his home.

Calliope The silence seemed to drag forever as the assembled wolves waited for their leader to speak. Calliope's eyes recorded the increasing anger in Kasimira's face in slow motion, taking in the subtle but troubling signs of her changing mood. Wondering if Kyren saw it too, Calliope realized that the male slave had not brought back the report Kasimira wanted to hear. The sheer tension in the room made her fur stand on end.
"Calliope, Matrid, you are excused. Wait outside."
At first Calliope thought she must have misheard her mistress, but Matrid was already starting to leave. It was a bit disappointing, she had to admit. She had a feeling that she would have enjoyed seeing someone she feared squirm in fear himself. That's a horrible thought! she chided herself, knowing that didn't make it any less true.
"Yes, mistress," Calliope said quietly, echoing Matrid. She left quickly, staying right behind her fellow slave, not wanting to risk feeling Kasimira's wrath. Though she longed to see the look on Kyren face, she kept her head facing forward as an obedient sklavin would.
The rays of the mourning sun warmed her skin as she came into the open space outside the dens. As if trying to make up for the past rainy days, the radiant orb already burned with a fierce heat. That combined with the evaporating water would turn Irrsin into a muggy sauna. Even Calliope, with her thin fur, would be avoiding the sun later. Today was the sort of day Calliope thought best spent in a cool den, protected from the sun by layers of rock and dirt. If Kasimira regained a good mood, maybe she would allow the slaves to sleep until the evening brought cooler weather. Or, she thought, finally risking a glance back at the Alphas' den, at least some of the slaves.
"I hope you didn't get into too much trouble."
A smile pulled at her dark lips. It was nice to know someone cared for her well-being. The smile faltered a bit as Calliope realize that not once had she given any thought to what punishment might befall Matrid. Recovering, she thought back to her brief interaction with Kasimira.
"No, she was very . . . lenient with me." The fae could not quite grasp a word that aptly described how her mistress had dealt with her. It puzzled her how Kasimira could be so kind to her and yet still so cold to Zy and Kyren.
"Does Lady Kasimira seem strange to you? Calliope blurted out, before realizing how it sounded. "Oh, no, that's not what I--no. I meant to say, do you think she's acting different now than she did before?
Flustered, Calliope fell silent. She should have known to keep her mouth shut. It was inevitable that if she opened her mouth, she would say something stupid. Of course, the fear of saying the wrong thing only made her speech stilted and full of stuttering. It seemed she couldn't win. Despite feeling this way, she still had an urge to share what she thought to Matrid, if only just to get it out of her head. Hesitantly, she took a chance and spoke again in a low, rushed voice.
"I think it's Tortuga--I mean, Sir Tortuga. She keeps looking at him, like . . . Like they have a secret."
For almost all of her life, Calliope had been on the sidelines watching everyone else. She had become adept at spotting tiny hints and clues in a wolf's body language. When Kasimira looked at Tortuga, she wasn't thinking of him, she was thinking of something he reminded her of. It made Calliope remember of how she looked at her former mate, how most of the time, she was really thinking about the life he promised her and the pups growing in her belly.
Perhaps the Alphas were planning something. A battle? A raid? Something to do with Kyren? Calliope dismissed these all in turn. The pack was too small for much fighting, and nothing so inconsequential as a slave warranted such focus from Kasimira. Whatever it was, something big was about to happen; Calliope could sense it.

KORIE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -The black she-wolf moved like a shadow through the mist, stirring up a clear path through the silvery strands just long enough for her to pass before they swirled back together. Her steps were light and soundless against the lush grasses, the dew laden blades bending easily under her slight weight. The she-wolf's lithe dark body melded with the shadows of the early morning, melting together so they became almost as one. She felt at home in the safety of the open valley now that she'd spent some time here. This was her new home, and she found she rather liked it. It was very preferable over her old master's home and Kasimira was a very fine lady to serve indeed. Even the other wolves in the pack, from what she'd observed in her short time here, were nice and friendly. No, she didn't mind it here at all.
Her long legs ate up the flat terrain in a lazy, loping stride that had become characteristic of Korie in her time here. Loose and relaxed, bright eyed and aware was what she was now. Her coat was a healthy, deep black, not the dingy, dusty copout it had been before. The auburn points that had faded to a light tan in her time with her old master were back to a rich copper, the color of a new penny. Her body was lean and strong, her dainty paws quick and nimble in her seemingly inexhaustible reserves of energy and love for just living. Korie's amber eyes sparkled with new life and curiosity as well as new awareness for her surroundings.
Yes, in just her few days here she'd done a complete 180 into this new, bubbly she-wolf, a far cry from the scared, trembling excuse for a wolf that she'd been when she'd arrived. The change was so abrupt one would think the wolf that had first came here and the one here now were two different beings. It hadn't taken her long to regain some sense of what she was before becoming a slave, though the young wolf was still shy and timid around large crowds and her lady, nor was she quite as naive as she'd been as a pup. Korie had changed, but who wouldn't after having gone through a slavery so brutal and scarring that she would have nightmares about it for long afterward? The ugly scars that were in abundance on her body were proof to her dark past. But she didn't dwell on it, nor did she freely speak of it. So long as no one asked her about her past, it was firmly buried in the recesses of her mind, locked away where she was determined it would stay. But that was not to say that she still didn't remember the lessons her first master had taught her about being a slave. She was still obedient and respectful, the model slave. Her spirit and body had been so thoroughly broken, smashed to pieces really, by her first master that it was a mystery if it would ever be able to be put back together again. She may have more of a skip in her step and a light in her once dead eyes now, but that didn't mean the scars she carried on her body and soul could be healed just as easy. She would remain the model slave for the rest of her days, timid and sickeningly obedient, for she did not ever want to end up on the wrong side of Kasimira's temper. Ever.
Korie realized just how lucky she was that it had been Kasimira who had won the battle over her with that other male, Phantom. Just thinking of the large brute of a male made her shiver, and not from the chill of the mist that wrapped around her slim legs. The same legs that he'd threatened to break so soon after her lady had claimed her at Auktion Rock. He reminded her of her first master; cruel, cold and merciless. Yes, she would much prefer Kasimira over him. That wasn't to say that she believed Kasmira was soft, no not at all. But she did believe that Kasimira would be fair and just in doling out punishments to her slaves, though Korie had no fantasies that those punishments would be a nice little nip on the ear and a stern talking to. Korie wasn't stupid enough or naive enough to ever allow herself to think that.
Pulling her thoughts away from those of pain and punishment, she looked a little ways ahead of her to find two other slaves sitting outside the mouth of lady Kasimira's cave, speaking quietly to each other. Not wanting to interrupt, but wondering what was going on, Korie slowed her pace as she approached, emerging out of the mist silent and ghostlike. As she came within earshot of the two, her shyness overcame her and she stopped a length away, shifting on nervous paws while avoiding eye contact. She hadn't had much contact with the other slaves in an attempt to see where everyone in the pack stood, so she wasn't sure if she'd get along with these two or whether they would even like her at all.
Looking to the cave's dark, gaping mouth, she could dimly make out three shapes: Kasimira's, her new mate's and one other that she wasn't quite sure of. Glancing back to the two females, she wondered what had them all up at this hour. She wasn't up to date on the pack's goings on just yet, so she wasn't aware of the missing pack member like the others were. She was clueless in this situation, which made her feel like more of an outsider than ever. The thought made her mood go dark for a mere moment before she shook it from her head. She would learn all that was going on sooner or later, it would just take time.
The restless dancing of her paws finally stilled as she gracefully lowered her rump to the ground. Her thick tail brushed across the ground, agitating the mist enough to cause it to billow up and swirl around her dark form, creating a cloak of sorts around her as she sat. She stayed quiet for another few moments, not wanting to interrupt what seemed to be a rather serious conversation. But then again, she thought she must have already interrupted it by showing up like this, so she figured there wouldn’t be much harm in voicing her curiosity.
“Um, please excuse me but… What exactly is going on here?”
Her soft voice floated to the other two females as her eyes flicked nervously between them, wondering if they would be annoyed with her or not.

KASIMIRA Finally, the moment she had been waiting for. The pack was strong. Stronger, in fact, now that Kyren had taken up the Beta position of Irrsin. He was a strong, intelligent wolf and one that would not fail her. Even now his face held nothing but pride and acceptance, a stature of a true, wild wolf. Things were falling into plan.
“My lady. My loyalty is to you first, and all that is yours. My leadership to the pack, so that it may grow strong and be safe. Whatever desires you have for the pack, for the members in it, I will do what is needed to make it happen.”
"Well spoken."
It was the voice of Tortuga that supported the Beta's speech, his eloquent tone that foretold of the loyalty her pack would receive. Perfect. Kasimira dipped her head as she settled onto the ground, her mind buzzing. Should she reveal her pregnancy to her newest adviser? Surely he would need to know of the life she was carrying, the life he would soon be protecting with his own. Or should she tell the pack together? Maybe it would be best for all for the pack to know so they all could be at their peak, providing the new litter with the best possible future. It all swarmed her mind, Kasimira clamping her eyes shut in protest. Usually decisions were never this hard...
With a glance at Tortuga, Kasimira suddenly wondered what he would prefer. Did he wish Kyren knew? The whole pack? Or no one at all? Compassion filled her eyes as she gazed at him, willing him to speak. If Tortuga told the news, there was a possibility the pack would truly accept him as Alpha. Not that she doubted they didn't know his rank already, but it was always best to make sure things were properly spelled out. Sighing, Kasimira stood up, making her way slowly to the cave entrance as she spoke. It was a call to her other sklavins, demanding their return.
"Come. Meet your new Beta. Kyren?"
Kasimira glanced behind her, eyes flashing a quiet emotion; it was too thick with her rambling thoughts to be completely understood. The black she-wolf stood for a moment as she looked towards her mate. She called louder this time, her voice proud, affectionate.
"And your new Alpha. Tortuga!"
It was a call that lingered on his name, forming itself gently into a sloping howl that hung in the air. Kasimira let the song grow into a roaring challenge. This was her land, hers to rule beside her loyal mate and command the ones below her. Together it would become their sanctuary, their home of protection for their new born pups. Oh, Eperna, why did everything she thought about return to that resounding thought?
Kasimira let her voice tremble in the air before dropping it, staring at her pack with new eyes. It was then that Korie was spotted. So the young she-wolf had decided to show her face. All that effort for her life, her energy for Irrsin. A strand of pain crawled through her, Kasimira holding back the wince that slithered onto her maw. Now was not the time for regretting choices. Now was the time to announce it. With a wave of her ashen tail Kasimira invited her sklavin into the Alpha den, intending to share the news.
"Your Alpha calls a pack meeting inside. It's too bloody hot out here anyways..."
Heat. Bah. It was torturous the more she stood outside, the warmth spreading uncomfortably through her limbs and body. The black fur probably didn't help either. As the Alpha turned into the darkness and chills of the den, she customarily took up her position near the back wall, settling down as her gaze scraped Tortuga. The announcement is all yours. It was a silent but solid sentence she spoke to him, her lips pursed as she waited. It was his news to tell now. Kasimira cast her mate another careful glance before she leaned down to wash her front paw, the wound in her neck smarting at the movement.
Tortuga was a worthy mate, that much she knew. But how well would he adjust to pack life? Eperna willing, it would be an easy, compatible transition. As her thoughts skipped, it hit her with a pang. Had she been the only wolf he'd ever loved? It was preposterous that such an attractive male could go without meeting a female that sparked his desires. Then again, she had never actually had a mate before him. Sure, there had been plenty of suitors and wolves that wished to court her... Kasimira drifted off into thought as silence slowly enveloped the den.
Oh, Eperna...
ooc- running out of steam. i need sleep. so sorry about the crappiness. D: dying to have these pups!

I used up all of my tricks
Kyren knew that soon he would grow tired of being a beta, but the weight of being a sklavin was officially lifted off of him. A tiny part of his mind pointed out that beta was only one step lower than alpha, he could settle into this life, and after a while he could probably express his feelings for Matrid as well. The thought did not last long at all. It was a cute notion, but every fiber of his being knew such a thing could not be. As sure as the sun would rise each day, and the moon at night, Kyren knew he would be an alpha. Still, this would do for now. Actually, he was working at keeping a smug grin off his face, and those eyes still danced brightly. Truly, one’s demeanor was more important than title.
At Tortuga’s compliment Kyren tilted his head a bit to one side offering a small nod, acknowledgement and thanks for the compliment. It was far harder to think on how to handle the next few minutes and work on controlling his actions all at the same time, at least when the change was this abrupt and unexpected. Small but meaningful looks were passed between the alpha’s, likely deciding the next course of action or just sharing their feelings for one another. Kyren understood sharing feelings a lot better now than he had the previous day. Wait until Matrid finds out. No, don’t think of Matrid now!
I hope that you like this, but you probably won't
As Kasimira stood up and headed to the front of the cave entrance Kyren let his head slowly turn to keep track of her. Both Kasimira and Tortuga were the alpha’s of the pack, but he did not forget the lady had lay claim to him first and so far she still seemed the more domineering of the two. Be loyal to Tortuga, but be even more loyal to the lady. Be loyal to Matrid. Deal with that thought later! You tangled yourself up in a lot of knots. How long will it take to unwind them all? Not know!
"Come. Meet your new Beta. Kyren?" "And your new Alpha. Tortuga!"
Well, Matrid knew now, and so did the other sklavins. As she spoke his name Kyren approached the front of the cave as well. He stopped before he was fully at lady Kasimira’s side, his front paws lining up beside her back paws. Exhaling deeply he smelled the fresh air, and noticed none of the negative attributes of the day. This was one of those moments he must look his best. If he looked less than his station now it would not only hurt himself, but the alpha for choosing him which would work against all he’d just stated he would do for her. I will prove my worth!
"Your Alpha calls a pack meeting inside. It's too bloody hot out here anyways..."
you think you're cooler than me
Kyren’s face continued to point forward, to face out amongst the sklavins, but for a moment his eye caught another glance of her injured leg, but then it shifted its gaze to focus on a sklavin he hadn’t met yet. My, my, this pack of sklavins seemed to keep on growing. A pack of sklavins. They desperately needed more free wolves, but then again considering how little time had passed this wasn’t doing so bad at all. If you don’t count the serious injury to the ladies leg, or the fact the beta was blind in one eye. One of their sklavins had run off. There were a few…issues but what could be dealt with would be, and the rest would be tended to as best as it could.
The lady had turned and walked off to the back wall. Kyren flicked his ear back listening but as the sklavins would come forward to enter he would likewise turn and move farther back into the cave, parallel and a few paces back from the lady. Balancing out being near while being out of the way, showing well but not to take away from her sight. It was becoming annoying realizing how much he’d taken for granted as pup to the alpha of his first pack. His head faced the entrance to watch all the sklavins enter, forcing himself to watch Matrid enter with the same expression as given to the others. What do you think Matrid? I told you I would not remain a sklavin. His eye did focus on Korie for a moment as she entered. The new sklavin. Kyren imagined he could have greeted the sklavins as they entered, but they had already been introduced rather recently. It was their job to acknowledge him. They were nothing, and he was superior. For all he was a smaller wolf, he sure as hell showed his superiority. That chest was puffed out, the good eye glittering as it took in every detail about the sklavins as they entered.

MATRID
*
"No, she was very . . . lenient with me."
Matrid nodded, a relieved smile finding it's way to her lips. She was glad that nothing too horrible had become of Calliope. Maybe, just maybe, Kasimira would be lenient with Kyren was well.
When Calliope spoke again, Matrid glanced up, tilting her head to one side. Did she think Kasimira was acting different? Hm. Matrid reflected over the last few moments spent in the den, the glances Kasimira shot Tortuga laced with a meaning that the sklavin's didn't understand. Something was going on, yes. But what could it be? Matrid had no idea what it was that the two alpha's might possibly need to conceal from them, but whatever it was, she supposed that they had a good enough reason. Perhaps they would share it, with time.
"I think it's Tortuga--I mean, Sir Tortuga. She keeps looking at him, like . . . Like they have a secret."
Matrid nodded her head. "I've noticed that, as well." Her voice was soft, meant only for the she-wolf close to her. "I can't possibly begin to guess what it is, but I think they're hiding something. It seems very important, however."
She looked off distractedly, her mind wandering in different directions, struggling to take all the events of the day in. So much had happened, and Matrid was feeling downright exhausted. The thought of curling up at some point, falling into a peaceful slumber...it was appealing. But who was she kidding? Her slumber would be far from peaceful. She knew she would dream, more than likely of her mate.
Suddenly, a dark figure emerged as if it were born from the very mist. A canine, of course, and as Matrid's nose set to work, it informed her that this dark wolf was female. Another sklavin that Kasimira had claimed, finally found her way to Irrsin? That seemed to be the case from the obvious shyness that the new female displayed. Matrid took a moment to observe her, already working to comit her to memory as her quiet voice reached Matrid's ears. “Um, please excuse me but… What exactly is going on here?”
Matrid stood from her sitting position, commanding her tail to give a small, friendly wag. She made sure that nothing about her posture was threatening, but instead welcoming as her eyes flickered with warmth. "Oh, hello. Right now, Lady Kasimira is discussing something with Sir Tortuga and a fellow Sklavin. I'm--"
She stopped suddenly as a dark figure appeared at the mouth of the cave; Kasimira, requesting them back. The last thing that Matrid had been expecting was the next words the alpha spoke.
"Come. Meet your new Beta. Kyren? And your new Alpha. Tortuga!"
For a brief second, Matrid froze before managing to shake herself, her eyes firmly on Kasimira as she let forth a fierce howl, dying off only to instruct that they return for a pack meeting. Immediately Matrid glanced back at the other two, before turning and trotting back to the cave. Once inside, her gaze fell to Kyren, her face once more struggling to remain emotionless. What would this mean for them? Well what do you think? He's Beta. You're Sklavin. It's going to have to stay a secret. This thought made her tail tuck, which she quickly covered by bowing her head to Kyren - as she assumed was expected - to appear submissive and respectful. Then, she bowed to Tortuga as well. When her gaze fell on Kasimira, the alpha was looking at Tortuga in a meaningful way, and Matrid wondered if perhaps they would finally be told what was causing so many secretive glances between the two alphas.

Tortuga
The moment Kasimira glanced back at him, eyes shimmering with compassion, Tortuga thought that he knew what she wanted. His ears flickered in response, but uncertainty gnawed at him for a brief moment. Had he perhaps misinterpreted her gaze? The absolute last thing he wanted was to reveal that the two were expecting a few little additions to the pack when she didn't wish him to.
Before he could think deeper on it, Kasimira moved to the mouth of the cave, her words directed at her sklavin's easily reaching his attentive ears. Kyren's introduction had Tortuga offering a half-smile, glad that they had found a suitable Beta. His own introduction, followed by Kasimira's hauntingly beautiful howl, provoked him to move to her side, standing proudly beside her, his eyes roaming over the three sklavins gathered outside. Three? His gaze back-pedaled, landing on the new female who he had immediately registered as sklavin when he had looked her over. Naturally there was the possibility that he was wrong, but he had a feeling that he was not. Something about her posture, her eyes...it gave it away.
Kasimira declared a pack meeting, her voice so beautifully commanding. When she retreated into the den, he did so as well, keeping near her but not so near that he was a bother. He watched calmly and quietly as the others returned to the cave, a light layer of dust disturbed with each step they took. Briefly his thoughts flitted to this new life. He couldn't very well remember his time with his mother and pack when he was younger, therefore, he couldn't exactly recall what it had been like living with others. For so long he had wandered on his own, keeping to himself. But now here he was, back in the pack setting, not only as a member but as an alpha. Was he enjoying it? Yes. His thoughts chirped instantly. I'm most certainly going to come to love this, I believe.
Once more, Kasimira's gaze found his, and this time it was clear. He was to tell them, the silence that filled the cave waiting for him to shatter it. He nodded his head once, his eyes lingering on her for a moment before he turned to face the others. How would they take the news that Kasimira was carrying his pups? Well, hopefully, since they would play a part in protecting his offspring. The pack was growing seemingly by the day, which pleased Tortuga. The most important thing to the brute at this point was that Kasimira and his pups remain safe.
"It's come time to tell you all something very important."
His voice was deep, rich. While his words were mild, his tone made it obvious that he was not requesting their attention, but instead demanding it. His expression was serious as his cerulean eyes found each one of them in turn, lingering on the newest addition who's name he would most certainly have to learn later. Another sklavin to observe in an attempt to read, it seemed. All in due time she would be introduced, he knew. Right now, he had something far more important on his serene mind.
He drew himself up proudly, much like Kyren had, his expression now containing a hint of pleasure at the news he had to share. His nostrils flared as he broke the silence with his deep timbre once more, posture so proud that it was just short of arrogant. His words were simple, to the point but weighty, laced with not only pride but with affection for his mate as well.
"Kasimira and I are expecting pups."

Calliope Matrid's answer, though unhelpful, comforted Calliope. At least she wasn't alone in her suspicions.
"Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see." Resignation weighed down her voice. They were at the mercy of Kasimira's whims, a fact that made Calliope grateful her mistress was not capricious. She was glad they could count on Kasimira, even if it was counting on her to be calculating.
Matrid made no attempt to answer, either to agree or offer her own opinion. This struck Calliope as odd; she assumed Matrid would reply just to be polite. Training her eyes on the bulky female's face, she saw it was turned to look at someone. Calliope matched her own gaze with her friend's and saw a new canine coming to join them.
“Um, please excuse me but… What exactly is going on here?”
The nervous tone to the stranger's voice struck a chord with Calliope. Her own voice often carried the same tone. A strong urge to protect and comfort the newcomer rose up in her, perhaps a remnant of her mothering instincts. Her mouth opened to answer the query, but Matrid's sweet voice spoke before Calliope could find hers. Matrid was cut off in turn by Kasimira's bold voice.
"Come. Meet your new Beta. Kyren?"
Amber eyes widened as ears received the words. She had expected Kyren to be punished, not rewarded. But instead of given him a beating, Kasimira had made him Beta! Fear bloomed in her chest. Before, Kyren had been all bluster with only intimidating looks on his side, but now he had real power. Calliope decided to stay out of his way as much as possible until the novelty wore off and he was less likely to abuse his position.
After this starling announcement, Kasimira introduced Tortuga, which Calliope found unnecessary. If he had been anything but Alpha, Kasimira wouldn't have let him stand within two feet of her, much less let him sleep in her den. As the pack was summoned for a meeting, Calliope positioned herself at the side on the newcomer.
"Hello, I'm Calliope," she whispered. "I'm sorry you didn't get a better welcome to Irrsin." Calliope punctuated her sentence with an apologetic smile. She wanted to say more, but no words came. Besides, the wolves had now squeezed into the den, and the meeting was beginning.
Kasimira and Tortuga shared another one of their glances, though which it seemed Kasimira gave control of the meeting to her mate. Calliope studied the pale brute. He was still strange to her, his personality unknown. As he spoke, Calliope's ears pricked at his words. She wonder if now the secret would finally be revealed.
"Kasimira and I are expecting pups."
Dumbstruck, Calliope couldn't stop her eyes from going to Kasimira's stomach, as if it would suddenly be extended. Lady Kasimira, pregnant? The image of Kasimira nursing a litter of squirming pups that came into Calliope's head did not fit at all with the image of her mistress that was already there.
Con-congratulations, my lady," she stammered, not knowing what else to do.

KORIE- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -An overwhelming sense of relief washed over her as both the she-wolves looked at her, not with annoyance, but with friendly, curious gazes. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to make friends here after all. Her attention went to the bulkier of the two as she was the one who spoke first to answer her question.
"Oh, hello. Right now, Lady Kasimira is discussing something with Sir Tortuga and a fellow Sklavin. I'm--"
But before the wolf could introduce herself, Lady Kasmira herself appeared at the cave's mouth, looking as imposing and commanding as she had the day she'd claimed Korie. Korie immediately hunkered down a little lower, dipping her head in a show of obedience before daring to look up at her again. She hardly thought about the movement anymore, it was automatic. Show respect for your superior first and foremost. It had been beaten into her, the beating part to be taken quite literally.
No sooner than she'd given her sign of respect that Kasimira began speaking, introducing two male wolves to the group. The first seemed to shock the two female's nearest to Korie, something she didn't quite understand. Her curious gaze went up to study the new Beta, wondering what was so surprising, before she realized that she should be showing her respect as she'd done for lady Kasimira. She dipped her head in acknowledgement, her curiosity nagging at her. Giving a mental sigh, she decided to pass it off for now in favor of asking questions later. Almost immediately after announcing the new Beta, Kasimira introduced the new Alpha as well, a large white male named Tortuga. Korie's head dipped a little lower after she glanced up to get a quick look at him. So many new names and faces to remember! She'd better learn quick, Korie knew, because this pack was only going to get bigger, that was for sure.
"Your Alpha calls a pack meeting inside. It's too bloody hot out here anyways..."
Well, lady Kasimira sure didn't waste any time getting to the point. Korie pushed up onto her paws and started toward the cave with the two female's she had yet to learn the names of. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the smaller of the two she-wolves fall into step beside her, and she offered her a shy smile. The little wolf spoke gently to her, introducing herself as Calliope before apologizing for Korie not having had a better welcome. Korie thought this was strange, since it wasn't Calliope's fault and Korie really didn't mind anyways, but she conceded that it was a nice gesture anyway and smiled gratefully at her. "My name is Korie." She answered softly as they entered the cool recesses of the cave.
Almost immediately she could feel eyes on her, curious, wondering eyes. They made the fur on her back stand up a little as the attention made her acutely uncomfortable. Trying not to be obvious about it, she slid a little closer to Calliope for comfort while trying to hunker down and make herself smaller. She was grateful when sir Tortuga began speaking and her ears perked up to catch his confident words.
"Kasimira and I are expecting pups."
She felt Calliope freeze next to her in both shock and surprise and Korie followed suit. She slowly blinked a couple times, gathering her thoughts before she offered her quiet congratulations. "Congratulations to you both."
She found it hard to picture Kasimira with a litter of squirming, crying pups all battling for her attention, but she kept that thought out of her expression. It was obvious both lady Kasimira and sir Tortuga were very excited about these pups to come, and they had every right to be. She wasn't going to be the one to spoil this moment for them.
