Sinead It had been quite some time since Sinead had left Einheit. It felt odd, in a way, to leave behind the safety of the desert. Naturally she had left it in good paws – Fane, since Eneko had departed not long ago – and yet still it made her nervous. She could not put off this journey any longer, however. The khaki-colored she-wolf did not have to travel for long; Irrsin was her closest neighbor, with the exception of Durkell, and it was with confident strides that she crossed into the plush meadow blanketed with snow. She had no qualms about entering, for Irrsin and Einheit had been allies for some time, tentative as that bond may have been. She was hoping to strengthen it today, if her suspicions were correct. She came to a halt just over the border near the stream, and although she was thirsty, she did not dare drink. Alliance or no, it would be rude for her to partake of their resources without even speaking to Kasimira. For weeks now, Chalandra’s words had rang through Sinead’s mind. An ivory brute was Bjorn’s father, and while Kasimira’s mate was clearly not the only white wolf in Ravensbruck, something in her gut told her that she was not wrong. Sinead had never been overly religious, but she would not ignore the itch in her mind forever. Perhaps it was a sign from the Gods telling her to come here, or perhaps it was her own paranoid suspicions. Either way, she would not pass up this chance. Even if Tortuga hated her for giving away his little secret, Sinead thought that Kasimira would not, and there was always the possibility that her news would make the fierce Irrsin alpha detest Groavche even more. Nirco had given shelter to Chalandra and her bastard whelp, and although Sinead had given her word not to interfere with their lives, she did not consider her task today to make her a liar. As an ally of Irrsin, she owed Kasimira the knowledge. It had taken her longer than she would have liked to venture here due to the unfortunate timing of her heat and Eneko’s hovering presence, but all the better. She would not have dared tempt Kasimira’s males with her scent, anyways. When she finally tilted her muzzle back towards the heavens, it was Kasimira who she specifically called to. Would the alpha recognize her, Sinead wondered, from voice alone? Or would she come blazing across the field? Either way, Sinead’s call was filled with urgency. Perhaps that would make her come quicker. When she’d finished she sat back on her haunches, waiting patiently with her tail curled around her paws. She could only hope that it was not Kasimira’s mate who got to her first, for Sinead would barely be able to contain her disdain over his romp with Chalandra, of all wolves. She knew that he and Kasimira did not have the same arrangement that she and Eneko did, after all. Brutes truly were disgusting. NOTE: dramallama~ | WORDS: 504 | TAG: @image

K A S I M I R A It had been a season or two since Kasimira had last heard a call for her cross her lands. Laying in the warmth of the den's heat, although not nestled into the crook of Tortuga's body, Kasimira blinked the final remnants of sleep from her eyes. Even though she'd been awake for quite some time now, the idea of falling back into the stillness was still close to her heart, especially with her mate laying so near and so pleasantly in dreams. But anymore, with the distance between them that stretched further each day, Kasimira declined the notion more and more, laying separate and huddled in on herself. The closest contact she'd had with her mate in the last moon had been during the nights when he dreamed deeply, for he was slightly prone to kicking and fidgeting. That, and that alone, had been their touching point. He seemed restless, almost irritated and bored with her at times. In turn, she blamed herself for how callously and coolly she would turn him away. No matter what she did, no matter how she thought about it, she couldn't bring herself to lay with him. She couldn't have pups again. Shaking thoughts of Adelina and Marzell into the back scripts in her mind, Kasimira resolutely pulled herself up and into a stretching yawn. Whoever it was sounded horribly urgent and the Irrsin alpha shook herself roughly before turning to wake Tortuga. And then--with all intention to do the exact opposite--she did an about face and darted swiftly out the den. For a myriad of reasons her mind was thoroughly boggled and she had an inkling feeling that maybe, maybe Tortuga needed his sleep. He'd looked so exhausted, so worn out recently. Pack affairs would survive without him for this morning at least. Maybe after he got a little extra sleep, she could find it in herself to start the rekindling process by cuddling with him. Sprinting off towards the noise, Kasimira thought feverishly about Tortuga and the swirl of affairs they'd found themselves in. - - - The meadow was silent in the snowfall, little white specks covering Kasimira's darkened pelt as she moved. Winter was not, in any way, shape, or form, her season. She was a stark dot across the landscape, easily traceable against the meadow's blinding snow blanket. Add the bone chilling temperatures and her lack of love for everything wet--"Vile Winter" was the name of the game. The only redeeming quality was the thickness of her pelt, and even that was disputable when she had to trudge through the depths that would eventually greet her lands. For now though, the snowfall was light and she effortlessly spotted a khaki wolf--none other than Sinead, a neighboring alpha. Kasimira quirked a brow at the sight and stopped moving, puzzled by the presence of a wolf she hadn't seen in quite sometime. Scanning the horizon, it was obvious that the she-wolf was alone. But why? What would warrant leaving her territory unguarded, untrusted? As far as Kasimira knew, Sinead had not taken a mate in all her seasons as the Einheit alpha (a fact that, considering the current moment's tensions, Kasi was rather jealous of). Curiosity driving her onward, Kasimira dashed down to meet her Einheit counterpart. As she drew near, the anxiety was obvious and Kasimira's concern increased. Sinead seemed focused, and although not skittish as she would have expected if Einheit was in danger from outsiders, still on edge. Kasimira skipped the formality of introductions and simply dipped her head; a gesture from one alpha to another. Her voice was tight when it came out, and her blue eyes were frozen solely on reading the body language of her pack's single ally. "What's wrong? Is Einheit in trouble?"NOTE: let the drama and heartbreak begin! | WORDS: 626 | TAG: ⋆Ravɛn

Sinead It did not take long for Sinead to spot Kasimira streaking across the meadow towards her. She waited patiently for her approach, noting gratefully that she was alone. Sinead was tense, for it certainly wasn’t good news that had brought her here, but regardless it was time for her to step forth and strengthen the bond of their alliance. Her triangular ears flicked atop her skull as the Irrsin alpha came nearer and nearer. Truly Kasimira was beautiful, and it was only on very rare occasions that Sinead complimented another she-wolf, even mentally. She noted that the alphess looked tired however, and with a pang Sinead remembered her still-missing pups. She’d scoured Einheit when she heard the news to make sure they hadn’t found their way there by mistake, but she’d seen no signs of them, nor had she heard anything. It was an unfortunate fact that made her heart hurt."What's wrong? Is Einheit in trouble?"They were the first words out of Kasimira’s mouth, and they gave Sinead a strange sense of relief to hear them. It was comforting to know that should she ever need help, Kasimira would not hesitate to offer it. She offered a small smile as she shook her head, but almost immediately afterwards it faded.”No, no, Einheit is fine,” she replied reassuringly, dipping her head in respective acknowledgement. ”I’ve come for another reason today. There’s something that I think you should know, and please bear with me. It’s…an odd tale.”She shifted her weight nervously before frowning at her own silliness. Delaying would do her no good, so she sighed and continued.”Many moons ago, I happened across an intruder in Einheit, a little she-wolf by the name of Chalandra.” Her lips curled just slightly at the words; still she could not rid herself of her disdain for the silvery-vixen. ”Our encounter wasn’t pleasant, and I took her as a slave. Not long afterwards, I discovered that she was pregnant. It was on the day that she whelped her litter that the Groavche alpha, Nirco, came searching for her. They had some sort of history, had a lovers spat, and when Chalandra originally came to Einheit, she was looking for him. He wanted her back, as well as her pup. Only one survived.”Sinead frowned, lifting her gaze to meet Kasimira’s then, the anger clear in her gaze. ”I let him have her, because I am expecting pups of my own and I did not wish to risk his wrath should I take to the pregnancy. But before he left with her, I asked Chalandra who was the father of her son. She did not know his name, but she told me that he was white. I know how ridiculous it must sound that I thought of…of Tortuga first.” She gave a laugh that sounded hollow more than anything, shaking her head back and forth. ”But something keeps telling me that I’m not wrong. Even if I am, which is surely possible, I thought that I owed it to you to tell you. I couldn’t keep something like this from you.”Sinead was quiet then, wondering how Kasimira would take the news. It was a difficult thing to come here and say, and Sinead knew that if their situations had been reversed, she would have been stunned and doubtful. And yet still, if Tortuga was the father…then he deserved to be caught, Sinead thought grimly. ”It’s something that’s worth investigating, at least.” There was no pity in Sinead’s eyes as she stared at Kasimira, for she knew that it would be more offensive than kind. There was only simmering anger and something that was very close to the affection that two friends might share.NOTE: oh no D: | WORDS: 623 | TAG: @image

K A S I M I R A ”No, no, Einheit is fine. I’ve come for another reason today. There’s something that I think you should know, and please bear with me. It’s…an odd tale.”Kasimira, narrowing her eyes at the other female, sat down as Sinead shifted. She seemed utterly uncomfortable and Kasimira's neck fur felt her neck prickle at whatever the Einheit alpha had found so dire as to come here herself and now found herself without words. ”Many moons ago, I happened across an intruder in Einheit, a little she-wolf by the name of Chalandra. Our encounter wasn't pleasant, and I took her as a slave. Only one survived.” Surely Sinead didn't think it reasonable or wise to discuss simple pack squabbles with a neighboring, albeit friendly, pack alpha. There had to be more. Quirking a brow at the story, Kasimira remained silent as Sinead met her gaze with a burst of what seemed to be irritation. ”I let him have her, because I am expecting pups of my own and I did not wish to risk his wrath should I take to the pregnancy. But before he left with her, I asked Chalandra who was the father of her son. She did not know his name, but she told me that he was white. I know how ridiculous it must sound that I thought of…of Tortuga first. But something keeps telling me that I’m not wrong. Even if I am, which is surely possible, I thought that I owed it to you to tell you. I couldn't keep something like this from you.”Sinead's laugh sank flatly on the black she-wolf. Silence, completely and utter silent, enveloped them for a moment as the gears turned in Kasimira's head. Tortuga. He was white. I asked Chalandra. Overhead a raven croaked loudly into the air, breaking Kasimira's trance as she turned the words over and over in her mind. "Wait, wait. Are you accusing Tortuga of infidelity?"It was disbelief, plain, clear, and agonizing. Kasimira's blue eyes immediately searched Sinead's sea-green ones, inquiring of her honesty. It was a ploy, a test of character, an act to get her off track. But the black queen could not deny the sincerity that blinked back at her. There wasn't even pity lingering there, only hard evidence and the reality that Sinead believed herself true to word. ”It’s something that’s worth investigating, at least.”The recent lack of attention, the fake shows of affection in front of the pack to keep face and loyalty. Tortuga had also been oddly absence as of recent during the morning hours... He'd always claimed dawn hunting patrols, returning with a meal to fill her belly for the day, but Kasimira realized with a jolt the male had always gone on those excursions alone. He'd had the time and, after her own coldness, a motive as well. And to add insult to injury, he'd never mentioned his leaving. Feeling utterly dumbfounded, Kasimira half-stuttered on her words as the realizations hit her over and over, their force that of waves. "I'll--I'll have to discuss this with him..."Kasimira's blue eyes seemed to whimper sadness and a whine rose in her throat. She couldn't show such weakness. She forced the noise down before it began and resolutely faced Sinead. "I appreciate you coming. I trust you to see yourself out," Kasimira blinked a thanks before trotting steadily away, hoping she had held her composure long enough to get away with her dignity. She felt a rush of warmth towards the khaki she-wolf, but the feeling was hollow against the allegations that now faced her mate. With a deep, threatening growl, Kasimira set off towards home, towards Tortuga's sleeping frame. - - - Dashing into the main camp, Kasimira bolted into the den without a word to anyone or a noise to alert her position. She slunk down the den's entrance with a snarl brewing on her lips. The blue eyes blinked to adjust to the darkness and as soon as Tortuga's white frame came into view, the black she-wolf snarled severely, baring her teeth at the male before her. He had some explaining to do. "You...Explain to me why Sinead's on our doorstep accusing you of sleeping around. Now."The blue eyes, just previously guarding sadness, flashed fury at the male. Her heart hammered, raced beneath her ribs and a noise like agony snarled off her lips again. NOTE: omg she's a hurricane | WORDS: 789 | TAG: ⋆Ravɛn

Tortuga
You ought to know where I'm coming from I was alone when I burnt my home It was the loveliest of dreams; he was hunting in Irrsin, the grass of the plush meadow brushing softly against his legs as he ran. He was chasing a prize of a stag, his antlers tall and proud atop his skull as he fled. On and on Tortuga went, the meadow endless, growing closer to the stag but hard-pressed to catch it. It was a delicious challenge, and when he finally pounced upon it, it rolled beneath him, its fur turning white, the antlers dropping from the skull, and the eyes…they were a lovely golden. Adali grinned at him, leaning up to nuzzle against the fur of his chest, and then suddenly her eyes were icy blue when she looked at him again, and her fur the darkest ebon. Even as he slept his heart surged with longing as Kasimira looked at him in a way that the real, living version of his mate had not in months. And then suddenly it all faded around him and Tortuga stood in snow so deep that it touched his chest. A bear ambled towards him, and he saw that its eyes were Kasimira’s eyes, and when it spoke – "You...Explain to me why Sinead's on our doorstep accusing you of sleeping around. Now."Tortuga jolted awake with a start, lifting his heavy head to blink wearily at Kasimira. Very much unlike the dream version, her lips were pulled upwards into a snarl, her eyes bright with anger. In fact she reminded him more of the bear in that moment, so fiercely did she stare at him. And then he realized what she had said. The words rained down upon him like stones. He was on his feet in an instant, shaking the clutches of sleep from his bones. He was alert, his own blue eyes locked onto hers as inwardly he panicked. Sinead? He’d never even had a conversation with the Einheit alpha. How in the world would she know about the she-wolf he'd spent a night with? Chalandra…or Adali? His mind whispered venomously, and his internal panic intensified. Which did Kasimira know about? Or was this a test, a ploy born of suspicion to see if he would admit to something? How the hell do I handle this?He could either lie, fish for more information…or tell the truth. The latter felt like lard curdling in his belly, daunting and completely imposing. Would she forgive him if she found out? And if he lied, there was always the chance that she would know. Perhaps she’d seen something, smelled something, and the lie would only fuel the fire. Frustration rushed through him both at his lack of knowledge and how easily he’d been blindsided by her. ”Kasimira…” He began, his voice hoarse as he shook his head to clear his thoughts. The tension in the air was thick, and nothing short of dangerous. Everything depended on what he said next, and he knew it. Still…he found he could not bring himself to lie. There was already so much uncertainty in her life, the biggest and most pressing still being the disappearance of their pups. He could not stand to break her further, and so he would not. He took a deep breath to steady himself, air flooding his lungs, and when he spoke his voice did not betray the turmoil bubbling beneath his skin. ”I made a mistake.”The words were heavy, tossed into the silence, ripping from his throat as if he were screaming instead of whispering. Still, his voice seemed too loud in the enclosed space as he forced himself to meet her gaze. Shame mingled with confusion, and he heaved a sigh, his shoulders rising and falling in one slow movement. ”Things were strained, and I was weak. Kasimira, I’m sorry. I never wanted….this.” And all of the pieces were torn and thrown you should know where I'm coming from NOTES: ;-;WORDS: 634TAG: »Image MUSE: Banks - You Should Know Where I'm Coming From

K A S I M I R A ”Kasimira… I made a mistake.”In all of her madness, the black queen faltered. No, no, no. She hadn't wanted it to be true, she didn't want him here like this, with that loosely drawn apology falling off his lips. She paused, the fire in her demeanor gone as she took a tentative step backward. What did that even mean? 'I made a mistake.' Of course, she'd had her suspicions, but she'd trusted him. Either trusted him or been too distraught over the loss of her pups to care about the shattering remnants between her and her mate. She'd been blind. And god, how it hurt her to see. ”Things were strained, and I was weak. Kasimira, I’m sorry. I never wanted….this.” The anger that had slowed to a simmer started bubbling again as soon as the white male opened his mouth. Lies. He didn't want her here and now, berating him for answers. He didn't want her anger and her vexation pointed squarely on his shoulders. But he had wanted Chalandra. He had wanted another. He hadn't wanted this persay, but he wanted it just enough to accept the risks and slink around with some other, lowly she-wolf. Harnessing her emotions, Kasimira's eyes flashed bitterly at her mate as she made a swipe at him with her paw. "Weak? More so. You're just as pathetic as the rest of them! I should have known better than to trust a brute like you." Baring her teeth, Kasimira leaned forward and baited Tortuga with her eyes. Fight me, you coward. She felt a certain fury rise in her throat; a fury that she hadn't accepted awareness of since her fight with Phantom all those seasons ago. This time, the rage was different. It settled in her chest, weighed her down by force, and at the same time it was strength, willful tenacity, and ultimately the fortress that was holding back the anguish at both Tortuga's actions and her inability to save her pups. Thoughts of Marzell and Adelina were crushing against the burden of the current moment, and she pushed the thoughts away, fixating on how she would handle this. He would not get away with an act of this severity, that was without doubt. Eperna, help me to spare him. The fur on her neck raised and her claws kneading the ground, Kasimira lunged at Tortuga. She first aimed for his legs, fury driving her to bite him wherever she could. And then, like the wolf that she was, she dashed away, pacing from the opposite side of the den. The confinement they found themselves in was small, but Kasimira was well suited to such a space and she lifted her lips higher in warning of another attack. She struck again, this time aiming for the white male's ear. She snarled loudly as she shook her head back and forth, the resentment at how he'd made her look the fool rumbling and moaning for more, more, more. And then, she pranced back, her eyes mere glittering snippets of ice in the darkness between them. "Don't be shy now! Fight me, darling life-mate. Come show me what I'm lacking."Amusement flickered dangerously in Kasimira's cerulean eyes, eagerly waiting, ever watching for how Tortuga would handle the fallout. ✝o r t u g a "Weak? More so. You're just as pathetic as the rest of them! I should have known better than to trust a brute like you."Before he could react, before he could even think, Kasimira was leaping forward with a snarl, her jaws moving so quickly that Tortuga was startled. He danced backwards, the graze of her teeth along his foreleg foreboding as she backed away, her anger building and breaking like the tide. There was a moment where she was still, a breath, and then the twitching of her lips gave her away as she lunged. He reeled backwards, turning his head away from her advance in an attempt to save his delicate triangular ear. He succeeded only narrowly, for her teeth sank into the flesh just beneath the aud, and there was a sickening stretching feeling before his skin split and blood stained his crimson pelt, running in rivulets down his neck as he tore himself away from her. "Don't be shy now! Fight me, darling life-mate. Come show me what I'm lacking."Her eyes were glittering pools of fury as she stared him down, and for a moment Tortuga nearly lunged. His lips pulled upwards, the skin above his muzzle wrinkling in the wake of his ferocious snarl, the sound deafening in the dens. He was sure that anyone in the vicinity would be able to hear them, and yet briefly anger overcame everything. His scruff was a throbbing mess of pain, driving him forward two steps before he reigned himself in. He could not fight her, no matter how much his tensed muscles urged him to. With his snarl fading to a growl, he lowered one shoulder just slightly, prepared to ram into her with all of his might should she charge him again. He would not hurt her, but he would not be torn apart, either. ”I will not fight you, Kasimira,” he thundered, voice too loud in the small space. He was a jumble of feelings now: confusion, pain, shame, anger, and beneath it all, a hint of self-righteousness. How dare he, when he was the cause of all of this? The thought only confused him further as he watched his mate with wary eyes, his head shaking back and forth slowly. ”I will not have Dresna see her mother and father scrabbling in the dirt like dogs,” he spat, ears flattening back against his skull. The blood had soaked his pelt where it had trailed down his shoulder; no longer able to saturate the soft ivory, it dripped to the ground, forming a tiny puddle of crimson beneath his paws. It was an admirable wound, one that might leave a knot of scars beneath his thick fur if he was unfortunate, but he would survive…as long as she did no further serious damage. He had to escape from the dens at least, where he would no longer be cornered and could hold off her wrath. ”I refuse to hurt you further than I already have,” he growled, ”but no matter what mistakes I have made, you will not mar me as if I were one of your slaves.”With that he barreled for her, fully intending to temporarily wind her with a powerful shoulder aimed for her side. If he could drive the breath from her, or even simply stun her, long enough to get out of the den and into the open, he would be more inclined to speak with her. Then, at least, he could flee if she was hell-bent on his blood. NOTES: lawdy Tortuga you gone die | WORDS: 591 | TAG: »Image

K A S I M I R A ”I will not fight you, Kasimira. I will not have Dresna see her mother and father scrabbling in the dirt like dogs.”At Tortuga's rebuttal, the ice queen snarled her displeasure loudly and paced with her lips upturned, the fury in her stomach smoldering. How dare he refute her advances, how dare he play the part of morality at a moment like this. How dare he use Dresna, their last and final pup, as collateral for his safety. With a strange ferocity screeching through her veins, Kasimira moved to lean into his face, eyes narrowing dangerously. Her mouth opened to speak, but Tortuga's voice beat her to materialization and she glaringly took a step back. ”I refuse to hurt you further than I already have, but no matter what mistakes I have made, you will not mar me as if I were one of your slaves.”It was then that the white male moved. He moved with such a definite motion and she simply remained frozen, wondering stupidly what in Eperna's name he was doing. Then it clicked and she attempted to snarl, but could only manage a grunt as Tortuga's shoulder met with her chest. The force was incredible. Inwardly, Kasimira chuckled at her own arrogance and faintly remembered why she'd been so attracted to the brute in the first place. But with haste and speed the animosity came flooding back as she scrambled to gain her legs and found her breath nearly vanished. She scrabbled around for a moment before bringing herself to standing, wincing slightly at the pain that radiated throughout her body. The venom of her mate's treachery was deep and the she-wolf pushed the agony away with the force that hard-won adrenaline so numbly provided. Ears pinned back and her eyes glittering a new found wariness, Kasimira spat uproariously at the wolf before her. "And besides that, you'd rather our last daughter see you with another she-wolf than with the mate you'd already taken. You are a disgrace to Irrsin!" Kasimira shrieked, her fur rippling a growing vexation with the white male as she strode confidently forward. "You speak of Dresna only because you dare not admit to the horrors you created in leading Death straight to our other pups. It's your fault they're dead, Tortuga. I blame you."She stopped when they were nose to nose, her own nostrils flaring with the effort that breathing took. She was winded and yet still as vivacious as ever, her blue eyes flashing between his own blue. He was the reason they were gone. She remembered the white pelt rousing her from the depths of sleep as the fire crackled outside, how the smoke covered their tracks and blotted out the sky as they ran. She remembered racing with her mate, assured of her children's safety. But they hadn't reached the river. Somehow they'd gotten lost on their journey to the meeting spot, lost to the flames, forgotten to the blackened meadow grasses. She'd howled and whined and cried out, begging Eperna for a miracle. Nothing. They'd returned days later to empty dens and stale scents. For weeks she'd scoured the lands and nearby lands, partially mad in her searching for her pups. She'd ultimately distanced herself, suffered nightmares of their demise, grown cold with her mate... A moment, possibly two, passed as Kasimira relived the moment. When she finally spoke, her voice was steady but boiling from underneath. It started as a hiss, transforming into something more brutal as she made her accusations. "You are mine! Mine to mate with, to hunt with, to cherish during the long hours of the night, Tortuga. And you have betrayed me! We are not equals! Call yourself slave--it matters not to me. You're no alpha of Irrsin any longer."An odd mixture of refreshed heartache for her pups and sorrow for the severed ties between herself and Tortuga flared inside the black she-wolf and she lunged once more, teeth searching for a place to grasp and hold. She was no longer bound by the role of mate, no longer tied to this particular male. She was Kasimira, sole alpha of Irrsin. And she wanted to see him bleed, as her heart did now. Eperna, how I loved him! In and out she darted as before, her movements dance-like and strangely feminine against her usual aggressive demeanor. Her mind was a fray of conflict, but she hadn't the heart to allow him a voice. She wanted him gone. She wanted him gone and she wanted her boastful Marzell, her sweet reckless Adelina back in the den, cuddled against her side, suckling as they had in those first weeks. It partially pained her to berate Tortuga with claws and teeth, but her hurt was by far the strongest emotion, and she dared not falter. Snarling in her agony, Kasimira dropped her stance low and painstakingly circled Tortuga. "Now I command you, Tortuga Lonewolf: Fight me."NOTE: -- | WORDS: 824 | TAG: ⋆Ravɛn

✝o r t u g a Perhaps if Tortuga had fled when Kasimira paused, stunned and winded, things would not have escalated. He turned from her, fully expecting to waltz from the dens without so much as another whisper, but her words stopped him in his tracks. The large male stood rooted as he slowly turned his head, watching her approach as her words continued to rain down upon him like fire. "You speak of Dresna only because you dare not admit to the horrors you created in leading Death straight to our other pups. It's your fault they're dead, Tortuga. I blame you."She was so close now that he could smell her, only her, the fury coming off of her in waves as she brought her angular face very close to his. Her accusations had made his blood cold; he had always suspected that she held him accountable, and now she had said it, the words hanging between them like tangible forms in the air. Agony burst in his chest, as searing and harsh as the smoke in his lungs had been the night of the fire. And yet still Kasimira was not done. On and on she went, denouncing him as alpha, demanding a fight as she danced away from him, coiling like a viper prepared to strike. She darted at him once, her teeth tearing into the taut fur along his shoulder, and it was the burst of pain that shattered him completely. He had nothing more to lose; his mate, his pups, his position, all gone in one fell swoop. Madness sank its claws into him as if it had been hovering over him, waiting years for a breach in his defenses. It had found one, a hole in Tortuga that had been wrenched wide open by Kasimira’s accusations. He whirled suddenly, force driving him forward as he snapped at the scruff of her neck before backing away as quickly as his size would permit, words bursting from his mouth so quickly that he reeled with the force of them. ”And what would you have had me done, Kasimira?” He demanded, lips pulling back in a snarl, ivory teeth flashing in the dim light of the dens. ”I am no god; I did not set Irrsin alight myself, and I could not have stopped it, either. So what did you want? For me to throw myself into the fire like a good little sacrifice? Do you think the gods would have saved them if I did?”With a sneer that felt foreign on his features after so many moons of peace, Tortuga took a bold step forward, lifting his head high as he spat his response. ”You say that it is my fault, as if I could have done something to save them, and yet you were there, too. You were right there beside me, Kasimira. If you wish to claim I could have saved them, then so could you!” Without hesitation he leapt this time, blinded by his anguish, fueled by his wrath. She was quicker than he was, but he had brute force on his side, and it was this that he attempted to use. It came back to him naturally, despite how long it had been since Tortuga had been a wandering rogue scrabbling over space and pride. His movements were calculated even in the midst of his torment as he stood his ground, trying to use stamina to wear her down, his movements slow and solid as he threw his weight against her whenever he had the opening. Likewise, he was not stingy with his bite; his teeth flashed, aiming for anything that he could reach, fearsome snarls bouncing off of the walls. He did not know if he even wounded her in those moments; he knew nothing but the sound of madness that was inevitably Kasimira’s voice, blaming him again and again. If she wanted a fight, he would give her one. NOTES: Feel free to powerplay him a bit if needed c: | WORDS: 654 | TAG: »Image

K A S I M I R A "And what would you have had me done, Kasimira? I am no god; I did not set Irrsin alight myself, and I could not have stopped it, either. So what did you want? For me to throw myself into the fire like a good little sacrifice? Do you think the gods would have saved them if I did?”Flabbergasted with her mate's response and talk of gods, Kasimira falteringly took a few steps back. Maybe they would have. She had a feeling a response to his questions would be met with certain volatile hostilities, and for once Kasimira kept her mouth tight. Tortuga stepped ever closer and she pulled her head up, eyeing him carefully. She would not be shouldered away again. "You say that it is my fault, as if I could have done something to save them, and yet you were there, too. You were right there beside me, Kasimira. If you wish to claim I could have saved them, then so could you!” The second blow was harsher, more direct, and with an accuracy that blazed across her shattering heart. You were right there besides me. I could have saved them--so could you! The words racked and paralyzed her brain, each one a fresh realization on the truth she'd stuffed away for weeks. In her agony she'd blamed the circumstances, the weather, the change in air flow--anything, anything to rid her chest of survivor's guilt and the heavy weight that laid upon her shoulders. But it was all too clear now, with Tortuga spitting retribution at her. She'd failed them. Kasimira Queen of Irrsin, even in all her earthly, mortal glory, had failed her pups. It was without a blink in conversation that Tortuga then leapt at the black female, Kasimira left reeling to pick up her paws as defense. They turned, considered, and then met finally in resolution. The claws were out. He was stronger than she remembered, and as they fought freely now, Kasimira pitched away thoughts of litters and tiny puppy cries and fires. Brows furrowing in concentration, she let her mind go numb and silent, resting only on the thought of Tortuga's heavy frame laying so devilishly on another's. Her inner demon roared to life as they met time and time again, his teeth snapping loudly shut besides her ear. Too close. She shifted and swam like a fish against his sides, playing with him, dodging for moments at a time, only to strike when the most opportune moment presented itself. Her style of fighting was refined over the years of being Alpha, a stark contrast to the sharp and overeager duel she'd held with Phantom all those moons ago. They met and fell away, brought together in a whirl of snarls and deep, throaty growls. They were anger and lightning, the brewing of storms and the relenting rain. Kasimira's blue eyes flashed indignation as she met her match in Tortuga. The feeling was surreal. He'd been her advocate and defender for as long as she'd known the white fur, the strong shoulders, the cerulean hue... She had to forget the sentimental features. He was white. He was strong. He had blue eyes. Nothing more, nothing less. He was a cheater, a liar, a traitor. That was his description, his make-up, his choice of life. She had no part playing with foxes anymore. Kasimira roughly pawed at Tortuga's face, her claws attempting to leave some mark, some reminder and warning to others. Doesn't play well with others. Madness overcoming her sense, Kasimira lowered her head for a cheap shot. Tortuga's paw hit her shoulder in response to her barrage and she fell all too convincingly, a whine rising painfully off her lips as she hit the earth. Time froze and she capitalized on the moment, crying her heartache as a ploy. Tortuga seemed unconvinced. Still, the black queen wailed long and loud, squirming slightly before changing momentum completely as Tortuga finally, finally leaned down for an inquisitive sniff. She viciously bit into his scruff, yanking her head back and forth as she gained her legs. Teeth clamped down, the blood roaring in her ears, the sound of Tortuga's whines cutting deep into her soul. It all hurt. The fighting, the argument, his admission of guilt. All she wanted was to hear him hurt. After a moment, she let go and trotted away, snarling viciously as a warning. She was done with him. She'd left his mark. He'd feel the wounds soon enough, even if adrenaline covered the pain now. With her voice a snarl, Kasimira spat a tangle of words at the male. "Get the hell out of my lands, fox-heart. Irrsin is no longer blind to a dog like you."She stood her ground, fur puffed, her mind dull. She'd soon enough chase him out if he didn't start moving. ✝o r t u g a Despite Kasimira’s smaller frame, she was a fierce opponent. Fueled by her anger she met Tortuga tooth and claw as the two snarled and writhed, jaws snapping and nails scrabbling against the stone floor. Over and over she lunged for him, and over and over he parried, fending her off effectively until suddenly they were too close for him to avoid injury. They were slight at first – small scratches that would scab over in a few hours and pose no threat to his health. But despite their fighting, he stilled loved her, and when she collapsed with a piercing cry he paused. Worried in spite of his anger, he moved to inspect her, his mouth opening to utter a soft word of apology or affection…but before he could, she was leaping upwards to grab his scruff, biting and shaking with enough force to rip through skin. Unbidden, a yelp slipped from his mouth instead of words. Moments later she released him and he backed away, suddenly aware that his muzzle stung as well. She’d left four scratches along the length of it, and although he doubted it would scar, it would leave a nasty mark until the fur grew back. More concerning was the wound beneath his ear and the one of his scruff, both of which were now bleeding freely. "Get the hell out of my lands, fox-heart. Irrsin is no longer blind to a dog like you."Panting, Tortuga stood his ground for several seconds, watching her. There was nothing in her gaze besides rage and hurt; no affection, no sorrow, no love. Briefly he considered going to Dresna before he left, to assure her that he wanted none of this. Truly he did not wish to leave his daughter, and yet he had little time. He doubted that Kasimira would let him, anyways. More important now was getting out of Irrsin, finding a place to settle down for the evening, and tending to his wounds before infection set in – or worse. Without another word, he turned his back on Kasimira and bounded from the dens. His muscles ached as he ran. His wounds throbbed with each beat of his heart, his ivory pelt stained with crimson, his cerulean eyes flashing with anger and sorrow as he raced for the borders. As quickly as he could manage he plunged into the stream, determined to keep the wounds clean for as long as possible. He paused for only a moment before he was leaping to the other side of the bank, shaking frigid drops from his pelt as he glanced sideways at the tree where he’d taken Adali so many nights ago. He did not dare tell Kasimira of that, and strangely, he felt no guilt. There was only an impending sense of numbness that had Tortuga turning away, his large paws carrying him over the border for the first time in what seemed like ages. Irrsin was no longer his home, that had been made perfectly clear. He was free to wander again, free to roam. As he disappeared into the forest, however, it was with a heavy heart that felt more like shackles than freedom.
