The panic came so quickly that she had no way of controlling it. Her breath was coming out in heaving gasps, almost painful in her chest. Her heart sputtered as she backed up, not knowing that she was getting closer and closer to the edge of the cliff. Nirco came towards her but she shied back, her skin burning under her fur. Her eyes were wide and fearful, everything around her was blurry and spinning. Then it happened, her back paw slipped off the edge of the cliff, then her lower half followed. She let out a terrified scream, digging her nails into the hard packed earth to keep herself from falling over the edge. She cried out for help, her fear too much now even fore words. Why did she come up here today? Was this going to be the end of her?
No!
She would not die without a fight. With all of her strength she pulled herself forward, her paws scrambling to get a grip further up from the last. She was stirring up a lot of dust, causing her body to be even more coated in grime. With one last final grunt she pulled herself upwards, darting behind the black brute and shaking. She didn't say anything, just stood there and buried her face in Nirco's pelt. That is when the tears started. Sobs clutched at her chest like a taloned bird, digging in as she let the sobs come out. She needed to get a hold of herself.
The calming and welcoming scent finally settled into Echo's nose, soothing her in a way no one had been able to for so long. She pressed her face even deeper into his flank, her breaths settling to sniffles, and then even, normal breaths. She didn't want to remove her face from the brute, but she knew that she had to. She had to recover, and she had to be strong. Just like Beck use to say to her. So, she slowly pulled away from the brute, backed up a few steps and stood on her own shaky legs. All was silent for the moment, no one speaking. She hadn't even heard Nirco speak, or introduce her, she had been caught in her own whirlwind of emotions. Then, the female finally broke the silence.
"I'm sorry about that. I had no idea."
Echo simply nodded her head slowly, her pale green eyes still wide and her pupils tiny. Her breathing was returning to normal, but the shock made her feel numb. The silence returned, and she saw the femme look between the two. She found herself doing the same thing, shuffling on her shaky legs. She felt awkward now after causing such a commotion, and the fact that she nearly fell off of the Mesa. Shaking her head to clear her mind, she finally spoke. "It's okay, you had no way of knowing. I uh... I should be the one to say sorry. I, uh, panicked," she woofed softly, faintly smiling at the other female. What was her name again? Through the fog of her panicked mind she faintly remembered Nirco saying her name. Cha something or rather. In fact, she was pretty sure that she had heard him say Cha. "It's nice to meet you Cha."
When Cha asked Nirco if he was returning to her pack, she looked at the dark male, then back to the silver one. "We have not been in a pack together for quite some time. It seems that fate keeps bringing us together, but I will not drag Nirco back with me. I... I don't have much power to do so..." she said, suddenly remembering that she was a Sklavin. She dropped her body low and did not meet their gazes anymore. Ashamed for doing so, she whined softly. "I am so sorry for acting and speaking out of context, lady and lord."
It was a swift change when Echo remembered her place, almost like the flick of a switch. She blinked to herself, keeping her eyes down cast. What was she going to do now? She had to wait to be spoken too, and would not speak back unless she was asked a direct question. She prayed to the gods that Cha would not strike her for acting so boldly. She flinched slightly, waiting for the blow to fall.

Nirco
A glance at Chalandra was enough of a distraction for the brute not to realize just what was unfolding before him. It wasn't until a scream hit his ears that he noticed the predicament Echo had just gotten herself in to. Whipping his head around to look at her, blue eyes widened in both shock and fear when he saw the red-pelted wolf hanging halfway over the Mesa. In alarm he had lurched forward, but what was he to do? Grabbing her scruff and hauling her back up popped into his mind. She was probably light enough for someone like him to do so. But it could of possibly sent them both off balance and tumbling off the ledge. "Come on Echo, lift yourself back up!" He pleaded with despair. She was a good soul and the only connection he had to the better days of his past before it had all gone to hell. Hardly the type he'd wish to fall to their death. In fact, the very thought of her slipping away like that was nauseating.
All Nirco could do was watch as Echo began to struggle back up, clawing at the hard earth with her own fear and desperation. When she finally hauled her body over the ledge, Nirco couldn't remember ever being so relieved. He was about to say something when she had darted to him, burying her face in his thick dark coat. Immediately he had gone rigid, still not entirely used to anyone being so close. But despite the shock and uneasiness that settled within him, he did not push her away. How could he? Nirco was good. Not always nice exactly, but good. And he certainly had never been the type to turn his back on someone in trouble and need.
Letting Echo sob into his pelt, he looked at Chalandra. He wasn't about to blame her for the whole incident that had just taken place. Not even he knew Echo would of reacted the way she had and he had known her since the day his eyes had opened as a pup.
"Will you be going back to her pack?"
The question Cha shot in his direction caught him off guard. What had given her that idea? He blinked rather stupidly at the grey she-wolf. Would she care if he did? Why else would she ask? The whole idea of being under someone's rule was preposterous to the male and the thought of leaving the one who had just asked made his heart clench in a peculiar way. Despite their differences, he realized he didn't want Chalandra running off like she had the first time they'd met. And he didn't want to run off from her. After letting Echo answer first, he spoke. "Not unless you come with me," it came out in a joking and lighthearted manner, yet he was serious about it all the same.
"I am so sorry for acting and speaking out of context, lady and lord."
The words Echo spoke scraped at his nerves. Turning to see she had taken steps away from him, his eyes narrowed. He was not angry at her but more at the ones that had imprinted in her the mind of a slave. His tone turned more serious than before, as did the look on his face. "Echo, you are not a slave out here. Maybe back in your pack, but not here. We are your friends, not your dominors, and you can speak to us however you want."

CHALANDRA As Echo slipped precariously off the Mesa's side, Chalandra's stomach lurched. No wolf would ever survive that fall, Eperna on their side or not. Blue eyes wide and heart thudding, Chalandra slunk forward after Nirco but stood off to the side, unwilling to risk losing her own self to the cliff side for a wolf she'd just become acquaintances with.
"Come on Echo, lift yourself back up!"
Chalandra flinched at the sudden emotion that gushed from the black male and watched as he moved ever closer to the red she-wolf and the gaping emptiness of the Mesa's rockfall. Nirco was practically dangling himself off to encourage Echo and Chalandra growled softly as her nerves bounced uncomfortably through her. If Nirco went over the edge with his friend, who would she save first? Would I save either of them? The thought briefly crossed the silver female's mind before she erased it completely--yes. Of course she would. She cared for Nirco, no matter how different the two of them were in practically everything wolfish.
After a few struggling, huffing moments, Echo reached farther and pulled herself safely onto stable ground. A sigh could be heard from Chalandra, but she hardly noticed; what Echo did next surprised her almost as much as the outbreak of tears over the dead pups had. Burying her face in Nirco's fur, Echo sobbed uncontrollably and Chalandra stiffened uncomfortably. Nirco himself seemed utterly blown away by the whole course of events, but he remained steadfast for his friend. As she watched them in that brief moment, something bubbled anxiously inside Chalandra.
As the two broke apart, Chalandra's mind remained on how they had stood; not just the way they connected, but the way Nirco had accepted her embrace without a hint of revulsion as she was so prone to receiving. The green feeling rushed through her veins, cold and burning at the same time. It left her breathing deeply and quickly, and she missed Echo's apology completely.
"It's nice to meet you Cha."
Cha? No, no, no. That was Nirco's nickname for her now, not hers. Pulling her ears back in slight vexation, Chalandra was swift to correct Echo's mistake.
"It's Chalandra. Just Chalandra."
Short, sweet and to the point. As soon as she said it, the silver she-wolf noticed how harsh her words sounded, but she made no move to retract them, instead focusing on Echo's next response to her question.
"We have not been in a pack together for quite some time. It seems that fate keeps bringing us together, but I will not drag Nirco back with me. I... I don't have much power to do so..."
"Not unless you come with me,"
Come with him? Had she heard him right? Quirking a brow at Nirco curiously, Chalandra hardly had a decent moment to digest Nirco's subtle hint before Echo was doing something else rather artless.
"I am so sorry for acting and speaking out of context, lady and lord."
What is wrong with this she-wolf? Chalandra gazed uncomprehendingly at Echo, stooped at her general behavior. She had blubbered tears out twice, nearly fallen off a mesa, and was now bowing like a lowly sklavin before both her and Nirco's paws. Silence and two blinking eyes were her only response as she carefully considered the red fur before her.
"Echo, you are not a slave out here. Maybe back in your pack, but not here. We are your friends, not your dominors, and you can speak to us however you want."
Not knowing what to say, Chalandra simply nodded her head in approval and acceptance of what Nirco had said. Everything was too confusing with this female here and Cha desperately wanted to get away, let fresher air clear her head. Maybe she could find Zy again for some regular fun. She'd expected a good night out of Nirco, and all she'd gotten was a male that played hard-to-get all the time. Well, most of the time. He made her chase him seemingly in circles only to say something that could hint at a future together in some fashion. Hmph. She needed something to make these issues black and white again...
"Well. It's been an absolute pleasure meeting you, Echo, but I should probably be on my way."
And then, roughly, she added the second bit on to the first.
"Maybe we could all catch up later. Hunting or something."
Chalandra furrowed her brows in contemplation of something the three of them could do together, but she kept coming back to the original threesome proposal. Better not bring that up again for quite a while, if ever... The she-wolf moved a few paces away before pausing, casting a hesitant glance back at Nirco and Echo.
"Maybe the day after next?"
However much she yearned to be next to Nirco, Echo's presence was unyielding and worrisome. She needed space. [/size]
