Dresna had never ran so fast in her life.

Her pulse pounded, drowning out the distant sound of the falls as she dashed through the trees, not even bothering to stay on the path that wound towards the water. She leapt over bushes and brambles, and snapped her jaws angrily at a startled bird that took flight too late. Her heart was racing as her muscles bunched, propelling her forward, always forward. She was not far from home now, but she was at least over the Irrsin border. Immediately, the thought filled her with shame.

Look at her. The first heir of Irrsin, the striking daughter of two equally if not more striking parents. There she was, running from home like a cowards. But what choice did she have? After the fire that had wiped out the once flourishing Irrsin pack, so little had returned. Even her two siblings were missing in action. Her parents were safe, at least, and a small few pack members. But all of the others...where had they gone? Sometimes she worried herself sick with wondering, but that hadn't been what had driven her from home now. It had been pressure. Poised, perfect Dresna. She could practically hear her brother's ringing insults in her head, a bit harsher than realistic. Running like a coward! Involuntarily, her lips lifted, forming a snarl as she crashed through the underbrush. She was not a coward! How could they expect so much from her? It wasn't as if they had demanded much. Yet. She was an adult now, a young she-wolf with a capable mind. They would want her help making decisions. They would expect her to know what she was doing. But did she?

Finally, the roar of the waterfall was louder than her aching heart. It was so near, just beyond the trees, that the ground almost seemed to vibrate beneath her paws. White pelt flashing like a beacon in the night, she wove through the trees, blue eyes glistening at the sight before her. The falls destroyed everything, so loud that she could not think or feel. For a moment it was glorious, and she lifted her muzzle towards the moon, her eyes closing as her chest rose, inhaling a deep breath. Then, suddenly exhaling, she was off.

Darting down the rocky path that wound around the waterfall, she slid onto flat ground, pebbles sliding and shifting beneath her feet. Tail lifted slightly, she stared at the lake before her for a short moment. With the moon's rays glistening on the surface and the mist from the falls tickling at her legs, she was almost completely relaxed. For once, no stress, no worry, no what-ifs. She glided forward like a ghost, as softly and silently as possible. Then, when her toes were barely brushing against the water, she sat back onto her rump. Her ears twitched, registering the soft cooing of an owl somewhere nearby. It was nice, being out here, away from everyone she knew. She felt more like herself. More like someone that she could deal with.

Emery

Emery sauntered around the waterfall. Trying to take in every bit of joy and relaxation. He was almost intoxicated with pleasure. This was one of those rare moments. He was not angry, hurt, or upset. He was calm. He felt alone in this world. But in a good, positive way, rather than a negative one. He was not lonely, and he took in the fact that he could enjoy being on his own at the moment.

He took in a breath. He could smell the clean water and the earth. He sat for a few more minutes and decided he best get up. He didn't want to sit in one spot for too long. He began to get up, but then heard a noise. He inhaled, and could catch the scent of another wolf. He was unable to recognize this scent. He calmly walked over to the scent. It was near a gravelly patch. He found a bush and hid in that. Though, he was unsure as to why he was hiding. He was strong, and he was young. But he did this non-characteristic thing none the less.

He could tell by the scent that this was a female. Great. He thought to himself. His mood had soured a bit, though it would have been worse had it been a male. He looked her over. A white coat, and overall stunning. Not hard on the eyes whatsoever. She seemed at peace, and he wondered if he should bother her.

Screw it. He thought.

He proudly walked out from the bush, head held high.

"What's a pretty lady like you doing out here all alone?" He said in a gruff, yet sly tone of voice. He awaited a response.

"What's a pretty lady like you doing out here all alone?"

The deep words surprised Dresna, shattering her calm. Her head seemed to freeze in her chest as she whirled, crouching slightly, her ears flattening against her skull. It was obvious that she had been caught off guard, and she was embarrassed. Her parents had always taught her to be cautious, and here she was day-dreaming in unfamiliar territory. Heart still hammering, her gaze slid over the body of the wolf that stood before her. Judging by his scent, he was clearly masculine, although her eyes alone would have been able to tell her that. He simply screamed handsome, with varying shades of pelt and blazing golden eyes. Immediately Dresna was on her feet, turning to face him. She sincerely hoped he wasn't a threat. If so, she was backed against the water, and a fight would be difficult. His words seemed innocent enough, however.

"I needed a little fresh air. So I ended up here," she responded, voice carrying well even though she had spoken quietly. She tilted her head slightly as she looked at him, her tail swaying back and forth slowly. Behind her, the sound of the distant waterfall was soothing as it sent rippling waves up towards the shore. Dresna gave the brute another once-over, a flirty little half-smirk pulling at the corners of her lips. She sauntered forward a few steps, simultaneously moving closer to him in a move she had seen from her mother, and giving herself more room to ensure that she had an escape path, if needed. She was still several feet away from him, her gaze locked onto his. She wasn't the type to vamp it up, although she did know a thing or two about flirting, strictly learned from pack members, never practiced. Had she not been so reserved, she would have been more like her sister, gladly giving everyone something to look at. But instead, Dresna found herself cursing her reservedness as she returned his question with her own.

"And what about you? I hadn't even realized I wasn't alone," she said, offering a small laugh.

Emery

"We are strong, we don't belong, born in this world as it all falls apart."

Emery could see that he had startled her a bit. He felt oddly proud about that. With his stocky figure it was a bit hard to sneak up on someone. Granted, this female was a bit... Out of it, to say the least.

He wondered what she thought of him. Most ladies would swoon over his masculine appearance. Healthy, strong, able to defend against any danger, and the mystery as to whether he was going to be kind or harm them in some horrid way. He was never quite sure on his stance on that matter until he got to know the wolf a bit better.

"I needed a little fresh air. So I ended up here,"

Same reason as I...
He thought in his head. Hmm. They already had something in common. He cleared his throat.

"So did I." He grunted. Trying to not show any interest. But he couldn't help let a little of it slip out.

Emery could see a flirty smirk creep onto her maw. What did she want? Females were a tricky business. Always trying to manipulate, and get something out of you. Most didn't really care about the male. Oh no! She must want something. But he was unsure. He was never too good at predicting what a female was up to. He had, after all, only had one "mate" in his life... She was an unwilling partner as well. Was this wolf interested? Or was she playing some sort of game. He must find out.

She began to move closer to him. Again, he questioned her motives. But he wasn't going to act like a pup and cower. He did get a sense that she was flirting, but he could not be too sure. He wanted her to know who was superior here. He didn't care who she was, what pack she was affiliated with. It was just her and him here, and he wanted to make sure she knew that he had the upper hand in this situation.

He raised his head. Eyes fixed on her, not letting her go out of sight.

"And what about you? I hadn't even realized I wasn't alone,"

He turned this question around in his head. How should he respond? He didn't want to look like a wuss. Saying that he wanted to relax and take everything in would make him look like just that. Saying that he had been dealing with a lot of stress... Should he let this wolf in? No! Too soon, and he did not know her motives.

"Why should it matter you you, girl? I come here for my own business, and I shouldn't have to answer to you."

He looked away for a moment.. Then he awaited her next move. He was on the edge. He was not fearful, but he was careful.
