REINER Rain thudded slowly down from the sky, sea gulls crying their shrill songs through the salty air, cavorting emotionless in the sea blown wind. Reiner carefully, cautiously made his way over the soggy sand dunes, paws sinking into the gravel and worn ground, grit seeping into his claws, uncomfortable, unnerving. This was not his element by any means. At Hayashi's acceptance into the pack he had left, needing time alone that Dürkell's whispering woods could not offer him on any given day. Figuring that the sun would be shining at the Freiheit Shores, as it was always portrayed to be, Reiner was more than simply disappointed to find out otherwise.
The wet and cold crept steadily further in his fur, crawling on his skin as he moved down the beach, his head down and surveying nothing but his own two paws as they dolefully padded along, This wasn't exactly his idea of a day's vacation from home. With a snarl of protest Reiner cast his glance up to the heavens. The male's teeth glimmered stark white against his red pelt, vicious and taunting. The sky held nothing but grey storm clouds and a false hope he had wished to see. The gods these natives clung foolishly to meant nothing to him. They were nothing. Another speck or grain of sand on his mind's drifting shoreline. Nothing else.
Reiner let his frustration cascade out of him in a slash; his paws scraped more sand and the fury built. He was frustrated with the way his life had panned out--the way he had panned out. There was no one but himself to blame. Running now, the male leapt wildly into the rocking waves, his eyes wide with wavering emotions. Should he swim until he had nothing left, nothing left with which to save himself? He would be lost forever to the waves and salt and sea, lost to the desolate underwater realm that encouraged his downward descent. The thought was fury in his arsenal, tempting and glittering in the back of his twisted mind. Paws churning feverishly, Reiner growled with earnest, his eyes set on the horizon. If nothing else, he wanted, needed to feel the burn in his muscles, the panic to live, the flashing memories of Sicoya. He needed the struggle to survive calling wildly inside of him, screaming for release. What a sweet melody that had become.

Oynx "duckin and movin just to hide your bruises from all your enemies" Determined paws padded in a rhythm, bringing the large dark wolf to an unknown destination. His intense stare gave off an air of urgency or importance but the loner had no where to go and no deadline to meet. He would end up wherever his feet took him, and he was okay with that. Oynx roamed freely, although hungry for something more. There was more to life than just obeying or roaming. Somewhere above, a crow called out in an interruptive manner. He ignored its desperate plea for company and moved on, sinking deep into his thoughts once more.
Long after his encounter with the irritating black bird, the legs that belonged to the night colored wolf began to slow from fatigue. Clearly annoyed with the lack of strength, Oynx set off for water. 'This land is utterly useless to me. I can't smell a wolf for the life of me.' He padded through the thick undergrowth, dodging obstacles such as logs and boulders. Little sun filtered through the treetops. It was a good place to hide- to commit and get away with a crime. But he wasn't here to disrupt anything, not yet at least.
His right paw suddenly splashed deep into a puddle. Set in between a large rock pile, it seemed relatively clean. And he was in no position to be picky. He dipped down his silver tipped maw and darted out his tongue, lapping up water slowly and leisurely. Once he found himself content, he raised his head and noticed sand up ahead. Curiosity peaked, he launched himself forward and out of the tree line, into open and clear land. The grainy substance beneath his laws as strange and something he had only encountered few times in his life. It was intriguing.
The domineer was still backed to the tree line, slightly disguised by the darkness behind him. The other wolf had no seen Oynx, but Oynx's orange orbs settled themselves onto its figure. His fur bristled with unease but he quickly relaxed himself. The stranger wolf was distraught, acting much like a caged animal. It began thrashing about, kicking sand up. And than it galloped. The second male ran like his life depended on it, off the rocks and into the engulfing waves. Oynx trotted forward curiously.
Stepping onto the glossy, wet rocks, his leaned toward where the stranger wolf made an impact into the water. His was treading water just ahead, staring tensely into the horizon. "So that's it than?" Oynx mused, a clever grin on his skinny snout. "You're just going to give up? Or am I mistaking your seemingly suicidal actions for a lust for the ever crashing waves?" He asked in an almost poetic wording, flicking his tail with a certain delight.
"I'm in the crossfire, dodgin bullets from your expectancies"

REINER The sun had all but vanished as time had floated away, the battered ship that endlessly sailed on. Reiner's eyes glazed as he glared at the roaring ocean, the pounding of the waves on the shore deafening. It was like nothing he'd ever experienced. Once he'd made his way further out in the waves, the tide became a much stronger and insistant monster, shoving Reiner this way and that as the wolf struggled to keep his feet. His paws scrapped uselessly on the sandy floor, creating claw marks but finding no hold. Reiner cried out in his anger, growling and snarling curses at the bleak sky.
"So that's it than?"
From behind him a voice turned over words, spoke lyrics into the melody of the rushing ocean. Reiner flicked his ears and turned his head, confused at what the stranger had said.
"You're just going to give up? Or am I mistaking your seemingly suicidal actions for a lust for the ever crashing waves?"
Mocking him, was he? Reiner growled at the wolf's sudden judgment, lunging through the waves to somehow tear that mindless smirk off his face. He'd show him! The force of the ocean, however, had other plans, rising up only to crash down around him. Fury pulsated through Reiner's veins as he went under, the breath swept from him, the ability of sight stolen. In error he tried to open his eyes to see what had happened, only to experience a swift burning sensation. Hastily, Reiner clamped his eyes shut and shuffled his paws around for the ocean's bottom.
Thoughts concerning the other wolf began to vanish as he paddled around, the frenzy lingering and growing. The need to breath was an alarm in his ears, ringing and ringing and ringing without end. It screamed for air, for anything other than this dreadful, suffocating water! He needed to breath, needed to feel the simple intake of air. Oh, how he had taken that for granted! Shaking, Reiner found the grit of the sandy shore and pushed off with his back legs, propelling himself to the surface. When his head broke the boundary, Reiner gasped aloud, coughing and sputtering up mouthfuls of water. A strong salty taste burned his black nose and stunned his eyes as he blinked the droplets away. Reiner first saw the shore and stumbled forward, the energy gone, lost temporarily to the fight with the ocean.
As Reiner's red pelt collapsed on the beach side, he breathed deeply, trying to calm his fraying mind. I'm fine. I'm not dead. I survived. Maybe he deserved to die. Thoughts lingered quickly on Sicoya before rebounding. No. I'm a fighter. Still, it wasn't much use; he trembled with the severity of what had happened, Sicoya involved or not. His blinked his eyes as he laid there, the shock washing over him like the gentle shore waves. So that was what it felt like to drown. Reiner shivered at the thought. That was no way to die.
And then, something moved. Reiner narrowed his grey eyes to see the form in front of him better. That wolf. The event replayed in his mind, the distraction of being ridiculed lingering in his mind. He'd been given an assessment of character by this mutt of a slave, attention caught just long enough to prove possibly fatal. Growling, Reiner heaved himself off the ground. His legs shook with the effort and his body seemed pounds heavier, but he limped forward, a snarl on his lips. He needed to give this idiot a piece of his mind. Seething with anger, he spat a jumble of words at the black wolf, his eyes storming violently.
"What the h*ll do you think you're doing?!"
With his soaking fur and frazzled appearance, Reiner knew he was a sight. No thanks to this guy. His eyes were blood shot and prickling, the scent and taste of raw salt making his eyes water. Give me some smart response to that, and I'm gonna make you wish you'd never been born.

Oynx "duckin and movin just to hide your bruises from all your enemies" Clearly this wolf was either idiotic or brave- or maybe some kind of wild that could swim like a fish. He did look a little strange, like an overgrown fox of sorts. Oynx found it purely amusing. He was never one to swim, nor did he ever feel tempted to do so. He hated the feeling of his fur being bogged down and adding extra weight to his already bulky build. His orange orbs scanned the ocean. This wasn't a time to go swimming. It seemed that a rain had recently occurred, causing a disruption. The large waves were more than enough to point that out.
The strange looking wolf whipped around to face Oynx, his lips drawn back into a toothy, challenging snarl. But he didn't flinch, merely watching as the other's head disappeared underneath the merciless waves, his figure soon lost into the murky water. But Oynx wasn't worried- no. He'd end up on the shore, whether the current took him there or he was stronger than Oynx presumed. His pointed and ragged ears twisted at any sound, waiting for the wolf to reappear, sputtering and choking. And he did.
His oddly shaped face broke surface, maw agape in an attempt to gasp for air, only for water to flood in again. Coughing up salty, inedible water, his paws worked in a frenzy to the shore. Oynx was tempted to help him but it was a stupid idea. He'd only be dragged down by the idiot who nearly drowned himself. Heaving himself on shore, the sunburst colored canine collapsed. His sides heaved up and down, his eyes wide in a shocked expression. Oynx felt a pang on sympathy, but did nothing but stand, he knew this wild wasn't going to lie down forever.
However, the orange canine stood faster than expected, fur bristling. He looked rabid, in a way. His eyes wild, salt water dripping from his body, pelt rugged and mangled. Oynx could take him down easily in this state but he still wasn't about to be caught between him and the unforgiving ocean. But the stranger started approaching fast, despite the slight limp. 'What the h*ll do you think you're doing?!' He snapped, surprisingly clear for someone who had been so roughed up.
Perhaps he'd underestimated him.
"I was just about to ask you the same question." He surpressed a laugh, but his tone remained light-hearted. Oynx picked his way through the rocks and hoped onto the shore, still keeping a nice distance between himself and the stranger. "I was passing through, considering it is a free land, if I'm not mistaken." He wasn't mocking, merely testing. The other male seemed so set on picking a fight, approaching in such a challenging manner.
"And I couldnt help but notice an oddly marked wolf leaping into the torrent of water. Naturally, I was curious." Oynx shrugged, giving a dismissive wave of his tail. "What were you doing?" He pestered on. The other wolf seemed much like a young, cocky pup, ready to challenge for anything without questioning their rights. Oynx wasn't about to run from him. If he wanted a fight, he'd have it, but he wasn't making it clear that he wanted to tip his orange pelt off his skin.
Not yet, at least.

REINER "I was just about to ask you the same question."
The stupidity of it all was downright frustrating. Here he was, sopping wet and covered in grainy sand, all because of this hare-brained furball. Reiner restrained himself from letting another snarl taint the conversation.
"I was passing through, considering it is a free land, if I'm not mistaken."
Reiner said nothing in response, only glaring at the black wolf with a prickle of annoyance ruffling his fur. Usually he wasn't one to pick a fight or play the "hard-to-get", arrogant card. He had his jokes and playful games with Hayashi, sure. He loved to tease the beige female, mostly because of her reaction, her subtle flirting. Whether or not she meant what Reiner took from her comments was another thing. But this, this idiot coming along and showing him up like a stuttering pup was too much. Even Reiner had a breaking point, however long the fuse.
"And I couldn't help but notice an oddly marked wolf leaping into the torrent of water. Naturally, I was curious."
The grey eyes narrowed, the broken bits of bold hostilities starting to flare from within.
"What were you doing?"
Anger surged over the male at the question, numbing him as he deftly moved forward, his lips bared. Why did he want to know? Did he know the pain and anguish of losing the one he loved? How about the emotions that had raged through him when her body laid before him? Her position of last breath, that dying flicker in her eyes? It had pleaded with his subconscious, tearing the last remaining shards of who he'd been in half. Oh, and what of the blood that so effortlessly stained the ground? The trail that trickled away, the mounting injustice and grief that poured over him? What about when he'd realized the blood covered his own paws?
It had been sickening, the realization of the events hitting with the force of a train to his chest, knocking the wind from breathing, stealing the vibrant sheen of the sun. His fur held droplets of her blood, tufts of stained white fur trapped between his claws. He hadn't even known what had transpired. The memories before seeing her crippled body before him were dense, trapped in a fog he couldn't seem to even stumble through. All that mattered now was that the color--that shimmering scarlet liquid--was instantly blazed on his memory, the imaginary hue never to be bleached away by his mind's eye. It was impossible to forget and even more so to forgive.
Reiner's blood coursing and raging through him, he shot a look at the male again. His eyes rolled over the black coat, the rugged edges and brittle fur. Pfft. He hardly looked larger than a two year old adolescent. Even though Onyx was bulkier, Reiner was taller and he figured he could take this ruffian with one fell swat of the paw. Reiner inched closer, his breathing still reaching deep from his unexpected interaction with the frothy waters. Storming grey locked with blazing orange, the two contrasting heavily between the large sprinkles of rain drops.
It was no use. Inside that glitter of faint amber he saw a will to settle without true blows. He found himself staring at his adversary for a few moments, lost in thought over Sicoya. Then suddenly, a sentence. Reiner was the first to break the silence, his voice low.
"I needed to feel alive."
The words tumbled out of his mouth as he glanced towards the ocean's horizon. Pale clouds lingered on the tossing sea, turbulent and darkening.
"She was all I had. All I'd wanted. She'd told me..."
Reiner's eyes flashed painfully as the memories crossed his mind. He braced himself, clamping his eyes shut, trying to speak further. Words would not formulate, the sentences lost. How long would it be until her name, her memories no longer held him captive to himself? This male probably though he was crazy, with the way he was acting and babbling on. A small tinge of embarrassment rushed over the male. Her voice and the small thoughts he made of her was destroying him.
And there was nothing he could do.

Oynx "duckin and movin just to hide your bruises from all your enemies" What were you doing? Once the words tumbled from Oynx's mouth, the sunset colored canine stumbled forward. The snarl was still plastered on his skinny maw. He didn't look right- but he had nearly drowned. Obviously, he wasn't in perfect condition. Oynx felt a pang of guilt. Perhaps he could have gone in after him, rather than leaving him to the forces of nature. However, he was sure the opposing brute would have readily rejected his offer of kindness. Still, he felt a sort of responsibility. If he had died, it would have haunted Oynx. He was fine with killing wolves that deserved it, but he had nearly ended the life of a wolf on accident. Oynx never did that.
But he mentally shook himself, reminding himself that he wasn't weak. There was never a time to be weak. He was to fend for himself and look menacing and merciless to those around him. If he wanted to survive, showing an sort of weakness was not acceptable. But understanding was a different thing. And sometimes, other solves forgot this. To be a leader, a certain order of understanding had to be issued. If you didn't understand your own kind and those you ruled over, how far could you expect to go? Not far enough. Your reign would burn down in ashes.
"I needed to feel alive."
The statement that shakily left the unstable wolf's muzzle came as a subtle surprise to the black brute. He pricked his ears, head cocked to the side with interest. He was expecting something more along the lines of 'I didn't feel as though life were worth living anymore' or something along those lines. Not 'I needed to feel alive'. He wasn't expecting the wolf to want to feel adrenaline. It was a curious thing. "Guess ya feel alive now, huh?" He muttered under his breath.
"She was all I had. All I'd wanted. She'd told me..."
Oynx studied the wolf before him. No longer did he seem so threatening or full of malice. The only thing about him that hadn't changed was the desperation, but the desperation was different. His stance was no longer angry, but weary. His eyes were dull, but still, there was something behind them. Regret. Regret, desperation, pain, memories- and then he squeezed them shut. Oynx didn't know if the wolf was trembling from the water versus the cold or the memories he had unintentionally brough back.
"What...?" The shadowy make hesitates but made his way off the rocks and onto the sandy beach, his paws soon caked with sand. "Who is 'she'?" He pestered, lowering his tail and letting his fur lay flat again. The make had made him defensive enough for his neck hair to puff out but now it laid relaxedly against his body. However, he was still tense. The wolf could still attack, but Oynx wasnt so sure of it. Not the way he was acting.
(sorry for the delay. and the low muse. so much going onnnn. D:)
