Morning had only recently awoken over the Irrsin land as Kasimira stirred from the nocturnal keeping of her sleep. Her mind was muddled and foggy as she blinked the sandy grit from her eyes, hastily taking the liberty to gently wash a paw over her face. It felt vaguely like she'd been having a pleasant dream of some sort... Vainly the blank she-wolf closed her eyes and furrowed her brows as she tried to remember. In the end she drew a resounding blank, rolling her eyes as she abandoned the attempt. Hmph. Blue eyes darted about the den, her mind refocusing on a more important issue. The pups. Shaking her head side to side, Kasimira cleared her thoughts as she turned, her heart slowing when she saw them.[/size]
Dresna's soft white fur was the boldest color, registering the quickest with the queen's sleep-dulled mind. Her daughter's pale face was pulled into a blank expression, sharp in comparison to Marzell's. His ashen face was hardly lacking any of his explosive personality, the mouth stretched wide and tongue lolling as he breathed heavily through sleep. Adelina, laying sprawled across her siblings, looked the most peaceful, with an obvious, tell-tale twitch. She was dreaming. How adorable. Kasimira gently licked Adelina's face before pulling back, a certain reservedness falling over her. How much longer would she be able to keep them in this stage? They were maturing into full-grown wolves much faster than she'd expected. Anymore, their actions and responses were closer to an adolescent than the innocent, whimpering pups they had been a few weeks previous. The young mother gazed at her children as she sat in the den's sweet lullaby, listening to the breathing of her young as the sun rose outside. Oh, how she wished they could grow in age and yet never leave her. As a morning dove called to the new day, Kasimira closed her eyes, a rush of sorrow flooding over her. She was torn.
Just the way they laid together, their fur mixing and their bodies an awkward mass; it reminded Kasimira faintly of herself and her own siblings. How long ago that was. Reflecting back on it, the female realized it had roughly been a year and a half since she'd left her pack. Good riddance. She'd been too good for them, too big to stay in that pack and listen to her parent's nagging. Quieting the discomfort inside, Kasimira cooed quietly at her children as she sat up from the cold floor of the Alpha den. She just barely resisted the urge to nuzzle them into waking, her nose twitching and a silent whine slipping off her lips. Sigh. They would be roused out of the den soon enough. For now, they needed their rest; in a few months they wouldn't have time like this. The female's eyes hardened at the thought as she abruptly turned from her pups, unwilling to let her mind drift again to the circumstances she could not prevent. If only I could keep them like this forever.
Her blue gaze turned to the male beside her, the warmth of the white pelt radiating as she snuggled down closer. Kasimira carefully pulled her body onto Tortuga's resting side, her voice soft as she spoke.
"Wake up, darling. It's time to ready the pack."
They'd spoken the night before about the day's events and Kasimira's mind was bubbling with excitement. It was the day for Dresna's coronation, Matrid's freedom, Thomassen's acceptance. Adali, the new female sklavin Tortuga had gotten for her, would be introduced as well. The pack would grow strong. A sense of pride rose in the she-wolf's chest as she ran over the agenda. Her claws prodded Tortuga's shoulder and the black muzzle nudged the male's chin affectionately. She squirmed as she waited for his awakening, and she allowed herself to leave the den, planting a tender lick on the white brute's face before doing so. She had meant to wait, but her nerves bounced inside, scrambling her mind, her drive. She needed clarity, fresh air.
There was something reassuring to the morning brightness, the warmth of the air as it cascaded upon her. The den's heat had been somewhat stifling, restricted. Soon the pups would move out, move into the member den. Soon their short-lived pup hood would be a distant memory. You can't think like that. Not today. Today is for beginnings. Kasimira cursed inwardly and threw herself into the meadow, calling upon her legs for a quick run, a sprint. She needed to feel alive, feel the blood and the raw power that surged from within. She was the Alpha, the goddess of the lands, the coveted. It was time to play the part, lead her pack to a promising future under her strict dictation and leadership. Raising her head in a fresh, slamming energy, Kasimira howled her call to the Irrsin wolves. It was time for them to meet their fearless leader. The black she-wolf stood in her usual, dominor posture, the head high, the legs straight and poised. She was ready.
I will make us great.
